To ask you how long TTC took?

Just had month 6 of TTC and negative tests still 😞
I know 6 months is nothing really but it is just getting me so down now. I have other DC that were conceived within a month or two but this was from a previous marriage.

I think it just feels like a long time because it is never far from my thoughts. Just feeling really sad at the moment 😞

DS took 7 months to conceive. I was told that I was infertile due to a shocking case of pelvic inflammatory disease when I was younger. I stopped taking birth control, missed a period and there was my line!

Unexpected, could have been better timed but wouldn't change it for a second!

justnippingin · 01/12/2016 22:17

Ttc for over 6 years, no medical issues, just never happened. A few years later, aged 40, different partner, it took a matter of weeks. Never in a million years did I expect Dd. I feel for you, I remember the pain and my heart sinking every month. Good luck.

MidsummersNight · 01/12/2016 22:27

We were extremely lucky and (if I worked it out right) conceived the week after we decided to try for DD.

I wish I had a more normal answer, I think DP's swimmers are just very strong.

I am sure I posted on this thread already but cannot seem to find the message!

Baby no.1- straight away after stopping the combined pill which I had taken for over a decade, had withdrawal bleed, no proper period after as I was pregnant. Aged 34

Baby no.2- age 37- same as before, straight after stopping combined pill. Sadly MMC at start of 2nd trimester- this was over 6 months ago.

Now on cycle 5 post MMC and nothing so far.

Since the MMC I have, for the first time ever, charted my cycles, used OPKs, done BBT, started folic acid (never did this in previous until I found out I was pregnant).

Also, taking vitamin D and calcium supplement and bought some ubiquinol a few weeks ago (bloody expensive!), as I'd read that it could be effective.

So, am in a similar position to you OP- it's been nearly 6 months for us.

I know 6 months is nothing in the scheme of things, but it's really hard to take as I've had speedy conceptions previously- we only had sex once in the months that I conceived and this was not timed sex/charted cycles.

Plus I'm now 38 so panic is setting in. Maybe I have now run out of all my luck?!

For a change, this month I've stopped BBT, only done OPKs when I remember. Not gone as far as deleting the Ovia app!

Good luck OP!

Also, recently went to see my GP to request some bloods

My FSH (cycle day 1) came back as 6.7
LH was 3.6 but I guess this would be low it rises prior to ovulation mid-cycle
Thyroid was all ok

I think the FSH is normal...?? not been back to GP for full explanations as been unable to get an appointment when I'm free

FearandLoathinginLasVegas · 02/12/2016 20:51

How many times a week should OP be trying?

I was told a every other day and I don't think it was enough and it ended up taking ages..

I think if you're going for it, its worth literally 'going for it' but sure other people just need to see a penis and get preggers!

Italiangreyhound · 02/12/2016 22:21

Fearandloathing I think the reason they say every two days is because the sperm can live in the body for two days. The key time is usually just after your period, so around day 8 (with first day of period being day one) but please check this out with an expert!

Were you using fertility sticks to see if you Were ovukating? Because if not then as much sex or seeing as many penises as you like won't get anyone pregnant! I'd also be checked and tested, and ask my eh to be checked and tested, after one year trying; or after 6 months trying at age 35 plus.

Turquoise can't they give you the meanings of those results by phone?

DailyMailSucksAss · 02/12/2016 22:25

2 years and counting for me. Have no cyst pcos so it wasn't caught until recently.

Italiangreyhound · 02/12/2016 22:26

Turquoise sorry to hear about your miscarriage. Xx

Kirriemuir · 03/12/2016 07:02

4 years. On the cusp of IVF. Went on holiday, got pissed and he's now 8!

Purplebluebird · 03/12/2016 10:49

3 Weeks :O Not having any more kids though! I was 25 and knew when I was ovulating, so we timed it just when we needed to (not that that is a guarantee but it helps)

Good luck!

TurquoiseDress · 03/12/2016 12:13

Italiangreyhound

Thank you for that, still struggling with things as, for me, I'm so desperate to have another baby. When it all happened I thought I'd be pregnant again within a few months (based on previous pregnancies).

Re the blood results, the GP I spoke with essentially told me that all was ok- but of course I went off and had an extensive google, worrying that my FSH will start going up, a sign of ovarian reserve falling etc...

This whole TTC business can send you slightly bonkers!

FluffyEwok · 03/12/2016 12:34

Your fsh is normal anything under 10 is ok

stopgap · 03/12/2016 12:47

First at 33, one month.
Second at 35, two months.

I have PCOS, but went on a strict regimen of low-carb, no alcohol and Vitex for about four months before TTC, which got my cycle down from every 35 days to every 29.

mrstea301 · 03/12/2016 12:49

Interested in these responses as also TTC! Had implant taken out in June 2015, and nothing yet. Had a few months when husband has been sick etc so haven't been right on it round ovulation every month, but planning to go to docs for a chat in Christmas break.

Just feeling frustrated as two of my best friends have literally each fallen PG twice on their first attempts. (So four pregnancies all in). Happy for them but a wee bit upset hearing moans about how tough pregnancy is, trying to manage pregnancy with a toddler etc.

My cycles are irregular, can go up to 44 days which I'm also worried about, and cramps etc are miserable as I'm not on the pill etc. I also know I need to lose more weight etc, just worried I'm going to go to docs and they'll say of course you're not conceiving, you drastically need to lose weight!

Also feel that I keep getting pregnancy symptoms before period. So period will be 'late', will do a negative test, but have back paid, nausea, be very aware of smells etc.

Just don't even know how first steps go for docs - do I go on my own? Should DH come with me?

Italiangreyhound · 03/12/2016 12:50

Turquoise it is si tough. We had dd when I was 39. Had a missed mc at 40 and then extensive IVF including donor eggs. Nothing worked! We adopted ds (then 3, now 6) and I have never been happier.

Your experience will, I expect, be very different to mine but I wanted to say that sometimes things work out even thought it not necessarily what one expects!

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 03/12/2016 12:56

mrstea, just go on your own if you'd rather. That first visit will just be a chat anyway. Or take your DP if you want him there. I didnt even tell my DP i was going that first time. My head was in a weird place! Make the appointment if you feel it's time - they're not there to judge Flowers

Saracen · 03/12/2016 16:58

First four pregnancies when I was aged 30/31 (three miscarriages and one full-term pregnancy) each happened in the first month of trying. I joked to dh that he only had to look at me to get me pregnant.

Five years later we started trying for a second child and it took 2.5 years, which surprised me. Somehow I'd expected a couple's fertility to be pretty constant. But I never really read up on the subject as I wasn't feeling too bothered whether/when our second child came along.

mimiholls · 03/12/2016 17:13

8 months. It felt agonising even though it's other that long. Hang in there

kitkat321 · 03/12/2016 21:43

First time every time - unfortunately I've subsequently miscarried 3 out of the 4 times :(

Battyboo82 · 04/12/2016 11:17

First go with first and 18 months for the second, with 3 miscarriages along the way. No idea why first was so easy and second was not.
