Inspired by the other perfume thread, it got me thinking about what I used to wear as a teenager. I will forever miss Tramp, Moon Drops and anything by Yardley!

What are your favourite scents from years gone by?

Body shop ananya, Lou Lou and jazz

YvaineStormhold · 12/10/2016 08:57

Lace and Pink Lace - you can still get Lace in Boots!

Panache by Lentheric.

Miss Dior.

White Musk, of course.

Eden.

Poeme.

YSL Paris.

Was speaking to my DSis about this on the way to work this morning, she said she used to love Tigress in the 80s - I'd completely forgotten about it! I remember it being really overpowering and it lingered for ages, which was probably the point!

Anyone else remember Electric Youth? I think it was a celebrity fragrance by Debbie Gibson and it probably was around longer than her music career was. I have vivid memories of the smell of that and white lightning from when we used to go to the local disco! Grin

Redzer....you can get Gloria Vanderbilt in TKMAxx....i was over joyed when I spotted it!

My mother likes Taboo or is it Tabu? And Coty L'aimant ...often see that in Boots

Also used to love the Jovan Musk, or Just Musk...which I think was also a coty product...I often got asked what I was wearing when I had that on

pineappleeyes · 12/10/2016 09:11

My mum had me ordering pagan a few weeks ago

Redzer · 12/10/2016 09:12

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia - really, not seen it for years. Will definitely be buying a bottle then. Thanks.

grannycake · 12/10/2016 09:17

I loved New West - my DS used to call it the "banana beach" smell. He was only about 3 at the time

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 12/10/2016 09:21

The tap shaped ones were by Benetton.

Sea Jade is now just Jade (having been "sexed up" by Yardley Grin ) and is AMAZING. I have a bottle and it is similar to Cristalle/Chanel but better. Crisper and greener.

Most of the perfumes mentioned as having "changed" will have been reformulated due to EU regulations on ingredients. Rive Gauche, Obsession, Anais Anais, Givenchy III, Ysatis etc etc, they've all been tampered with. AA Originale is the nearest you'll get to the original.

Aside from Coty Chypre (if you find a bottle of that, then you can retire now) all of the ones mentioned on this thread as discontinued are happily being sold on ebay. Check the seller obvs, but I've had v few vintage duds.

Boots Lemon Grass and (iirc) Blue Fern, Honeysuckle gift sets were fab too.

hopetobehappy · 12/10/2016 09:24

brecon thank goodness you mentioned blue grass. It used to be my favourite, but for the life of me couldn't think of its name.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 12/10/2016 09:26

All of the Tweed/Chique/Exclamation/Blue Grass/Vanderbilt types are available on Allbeauty.com for a song.

I bought Tweed, Chique, Panache and Blue Grass the other week, full bottles for £22 delivered, the lot!

Blueberryblueberry · 12/10/2016 09:36

Brilliant thread! Ysl paris will always remind me of being a little girl and watching my mum getting ready to go out somewhere Smile I wore loads of exclamation, Charlie red etc. The original ghost reminds me of when I first got together with dh-although when I wore it again he said it was too sickly and he didn't like it anymore. I remember having a couple of bottles of an oscar de la renta (maybe called so de la renta??) which I loved and always get complemented on but have never found again... Sad

Mummaaaaaah · 12/10/2016 09:42

white musk (body shop) obvs, worn with Rimmel Heather Shimmer lipstick, onto Calvin Klien Obsession. And BFs all wore bloody Farenheight. now can't bear the smell of that shit!

BowieFan · 12/10/2016 10:21

I really wish you could still buy Tramp. I found one that was fairly similar (in both name and smell) called Golddigga but it's not quite the same.

Mind you, I bought Blue Grass recently and it smells nothing like I'd remembered. Maybe they've changed the recipe.

Ooh, your boyfriends were posh! All of mine wore something called English Leather! I thought DP was a step up because he used to wear Polo by Ralph Lauren and still does.

I've just recently discovered CK In2U which is lovely and fairly cheap for the bottle size. It, to me, smells a bit fruity but more modern than Obsession.

Ananya - body shop, reminds me of my travels around Aus.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 12/10/2016 10:44

Hartnell 's In love.
"It"
Fuzzy Peach Body Shop
Blue Grass and Apple Blossom, think it was Elizabeth Arden

HazelBite · 12/10/2016 10:51

Madame Rochas!
I bought YSL Rive Gauche in Paris on an exchange visit in the late 60's when I was17, all the French women were wearing it. When they started selling it in the UK I went off it a bit

Vixster99 · 12/10/2016 10:58

I seem to have spent most of my younger days experimenting to find something that smelled good on me & didn't instantly turn into tom cat pee or worse.

There were so many I liked on my friends, Blue Grass in particular I always thought very sophisticated on a teenager! My mum used Tweed back then.

I particularly remember Poison worn by a young woman I worked with. I think she used it just because of the name. She was a really dreadful, bitchy person who made my life hell and I still feel sick if I smell it now.

For a long time I used Caleche by Hermes but they have either changed the formulation or my body chemistry has changed because its awful on me now. I still love the smell on others though.
Another Hermes scent I liked was Equipage (for men) which had nutmeg in it. My DP at the time used it, and I sometimes sneaked a splash. Again, I think they have changed the formulation, because it doesn't smell anything like I remember.

I recently caught a passing whiff of something that reminded me very much of my auntie who died 25 years ago - I think it was Joy. That's another that smells awful on me.

takesnoprisoners · 12/10/2016 11:00

My mum used to have a Pivoine perfume in a white bottle with the top shaped like a peony/rose. Can't remember exactly. It used to smell lovely. Wonder if I can still find it.

Onynx · 12/10/2016 11:19

TheRattleBag - that was my first 'real' perfume too- I have searched for it for years. L'Air Du Temps is lovely but not as nice or special. Would love if they brought back the original scent.

Bobochic · 12/10/2016 13:11

Ma Griffe by Carven. My maternal grandmother always wore it.

BowieFan · 12/10/2016 13:12

Vixter99

My perfume choices were based on if Alexis from Dynasty (who was and still is my idol) would wear it. If she would, I would. Then when Dynasty finished (I was distraught!) it was based on if Kelly from Beverly Hills 90210 would wear it.

I've always been influenced by TV clearly!

Nina Ricci's Deci Dela. I miss it.
