Inspired by the other perfume thread, it got me thinking about what I used to wear as a teenager. I will forever miss Tramp, Moon Drops and anything by Yardley!

What are your favourite scents from years gone by?

Oooh, your mum was v. posh! Grin My mum's go to perfumes were Charlie and Tweed! My DSis said the first thing she remembers coming out of the womb was the whiff of Charlie Grin (actually, she's probably only half joking, my mum went into every pregnancy like she was going to a party!) Ah, the 70s and 80s when my mum went in for a baby on the Wednesday and was welcomed home where there was a glass of Blue Nun waiting for her on the Sunday!

She's nearly 80 now and still smokes like a chimney. Never had any health issues whatsoever. What I find most amazing is how she smokes 20 a day but managed to convince my dad she quit when he did 20 years ago Grin.

To be fair, I think you can buy Charlie for less than the price of a Freddo these days. I can't believe we all used to think it was posh! What were we on?! Mind you, I thought the Diana haircut was a good look.

Best thread ever!!

Does anyone remember the perfume that was always being given away on Just 17 magazine? In the little tester tube? I loved loved loved it. This would've been about 1984.

AmberNectarine · 11/10/2016 23:14

Versace yellow jeans, which is now discontinued. I will always, always miss it.

ephemeralfairy · 11/10/2016 23:16

Tribe 'a fragrance uprising'
Exclamation! 'Make a statement...without saying a word'
Fusion (CK One rip-off)
Eau d'Eden

Candlelight123 · 11/10/2016 23:18

Bought some Charlie white for £6 in boots last month, very nice & light. Also bought some Eden at the same time which I used to love, it gives me a headache this time around and has a bit of a chemical whiff which I never noticed 20 odd years ago.

ephemeralfairy · 11/10/2016 23:18

Oh and Noa by Cacharel
My first 'grown-up' perfume was Issey Miyake.

IamaBluebird · 11/10/2016 23:19

Was there a perfume called khadeen in a pretty bottle with a purple lid. Or did I just dream it Smile

Twofurrycats · 11/10/2016 23:21

Eden, loulou, Chloe narcisse and poison. Still sulking that midnight poison was discontinued........

Onedaftmonkey · 11/10/2016 23:21

lyingwitch geminesse. Thank you. Someone else remembers it. My mum who died when I was 13 wore it. I have searched high and low for it on the internet. But to no avail. I truly thought I had made it up. I wish I could smell it again to bring back some memories. 26 years is a long time.
Glad I'm not too mad Confused

dontpokethebear · 11/10/2016 23:24

Here's a tricky one. 15 years or so ago, My then bf bought me some perfume in a little that looked exactly like a pebble, with a little silver lid. I think the perfume itself looked slightly blue through the glass. Any ideas?

KC225 · 11/10/2016 23:25

In love by Norman Hartwell reminds me of my mum

Halston by Halston
Rive Gauche by YSL
Georgio by Georgio of Beverly Hills

madmomma · 11/10/2016 23:39

Vivienne Westwood sin garden. I miss it - think it's discontinued

TheRattleBag · 11/10/2016 23:40

The original Nina by Nina Ricci. Absolutely adored it and was tremendously sad when it was discontinued.

I was so thrilled when I heard that they were bringing it back... then devastated all over again when I sniffed new Nina - nothing like the old one Sad

I still haven't found anything anywhere near as nice. These days I wear YSL Rive Gauche, interspersed with Penhaligon's Artemisia.

Eau de Givenchy. My favourite perfume ever (we'll gloss over the Smitty and Charlie days)...

Have found a source for it now and am loving wearing it again.

Dizzybintess · 11/10/2016 23:44

I love shalimar which is a 20s perfume. I love most of the old guerlian perfumes. There is a lovely one called Jicky which is hard to get hold of.
I have worn Vivienne Westwood boudoir since 2001
Vivienne Westwood has also brought out libertine and Anglomania which were both discontinued but are both lush
I loved Dior forget me not when that came out but it was a limited edition.

I visited pelhalgion in London recently and their selection is stunning

BowieFan · 11/10/2016 23:50

Oh this thread is making me well up now! It's amazing the memories we associate with scents, isn't it? I associate old spice with my granddad!

I also loved Moschino Cheap & Chic (it reeked) and the YSL ones, Baby Doll, Cinema, Paris, In Love Again. I got a bottle of SJP Lovely for my birthday ten years ago, that still smells good now. Only a few sprays left in the gorgeous bottle...

WordsAreWind · 11/10/2016 23:53

When i was at school i loved exclamation and bodyshop white musk.

College i loved CK One.

Then i found Anais Anais which i still wear today.

Namechangingbastard · 11/10/2016 23:54

Mine was Venezia by Laura biagiotti (sp) It was rereleased a few years ago but was totally different Angry

Dizzybintess · 11/10/2016 23:57

As a teen I used to love body shop strawberry perfume
My mum always wore obsession and je reviens
And my gran always wore yardleys English rose (mixed with a faint smell of TCP that she bathed in!)

I used to also wear Thierry muglers Angel perfume until my husband used it to Freshen up a mouldy smelling bread bin as it smelt like chocolate. Sadly every time I opened the breadbin I would get a strong odour of mould and Angel intertwined! Put me off it

papayasareyum · 11/10/2016 23:58

Beautiful Estee Lauder...and I still wear it
April Violets Yardley
And Le Jardin also did a darker, heavier version called Le Jardin de nuit

Dizzybintess · 11/10/2016 23:59

My mum went off the obsession and the je reviens recently. I think your sense of smell changes as you get older

thisismeusernameything · 12/10/2016 00:03

I can smell Angel at 10000 paces. I've never really decided if I truly love it or hate it.

Ponyboycurtis · 12/10/2016 00:06

Japanese Musk - body shop
Paloma Picasso
