To think this kitten is BROWN!?

Ooh, my first ever AIBU, this is exciting.

Please help settle an arguement I'm currently having with DP. I know this kitten is a tabby, and therefore a bit multi-tonal, but if I would say he is definitely brown, where as DP swears he is grey!

I just don't understand how we can both be so certain!

So, which one of us is colourblind, and AIBU??

Posters on here can't agree either so I think you and DH need to agree that he is brown and grey as well as being utterly cute and adorable.

I didn't know SoupKitten was a mackerel tabby. Obviously I knew she was spotted rather than striped like FatCat but I didn't know it had a name.

I am being stared at by the Fat tabby. I suspect he wants feeding.

Soupkitten's pattern is mackerel because there are some definite stripes, though others break up into spots. There are 'true' spotted tabbies eg Egyptian Maus like this one, but the pattern is pretty rare in the general cat population.

There's also a school of thought that all spotted tabbies are actually mackerel tabbiess with very broken stripes... Bengals are different but their spots or rosettes come from their leopard-cat ancestry.

the five stripes on the head are where the Prophet Mohammed (who loved cats) stroked them if I remember correctly? ie the five fingers of his hand. Even black cats (if you look in the right light) have the 5 stripes... :)

OP, your cat could become famous - like that dress that people swore was a certain colour but wasn't necessarily.

I go with brown (just) - more ash blonde.

I don't know. The only solution would be for theop to deliver the kitten to me and I will undertake a rigourous inspection of the fur tone, this is an in depth process ad will take roughly 20 years of having him on my lap and snuggled up to me at night.

Basil's a lovely name for such a handsome (brown tabby) catlet. Love his guyliner. His perky little face is adorbs, and he's wearing such cute bracelets.

One of ours looks like this, I say his underlying colour is beige.
