It's my dds birthday party next weekend at our local soft play centre it's the whole shabang food play frame disco character face painting etc.

Invites went out and rsvps came back no problem one of the children has a dairy allergy so i spoke to the mom and arranged that she can call the centre and they will go through the allergy book and mom can tell them what dd can eat and play centre will do her separate food but she can eat at the same time as other children, I'm making her dairy free cupcakes in place of birthday cake and non dairy sweets in party bag.

This conversation took place 2 weeks ago when she rsvpd and today the play centre called and informed me that she still hasn't called Aibu to be a bit annoyed that she hasn't?

Someone else's birthday party? Exactly the sort of thing that would go on to my "must do" list along with the ten thousand other things I must do, and I'd not get round to. Don't take it personally, people are busy, it's not about making a tiny effort, it's about the many many tiny efforts you need to make in a day.

Yanbu but why couldn't you just agree on the dairy free offering with the centre? I did for a child with an allergy at my dd's party.

I'd. It worry about it, you've done your bit, it's now up to the mother to ensure her DC has something to eat on the day by engaging directly with the centre.

I'm sure she will though, so try not to let it bother you too much :)

It's not a straight forward dairy allergy there's other things she can't eat or I would just agree it

Except she's be the first to complain if there was no suitable food for her dd when she arrived

Maybe she's decided its too much effort to go through everything with the centre and is planning on sending her child with a packed lunch. That way there can be no possible mistakes made.
Just check with her on Monday, no big deal, no need to be annoyed. These things easily slip the mind when you have a million other things buzzing about in there.

I'll see her tomorrow and give her the number, I know I've got a week and some one else's birthday party Isn't a priority but I think that ensuring your dd has suitable food at a party is important

Well just let her get on with it then. Don't do any extra food as she probably won't show and if she does say 'I thought you were calling the people?'

I agree with you OP, lots of things to think about or do is a poor excuse, it's for the benefit of her daughter and is hardly an onerous task to pick up a phone.

Just text her and say the centred called you asking for food confirmation. If she doesn't call them then they won't be able to provide the food her dc require

Oi neighbour, play centre rang about conforming the food for your dd. Can you call them back today as they need to make sure if they don't have the food in your DD wants they order it and that takes a few days.

Text her now and then speak to her tomorrow after school to ask if she managed to get it sorted. She may well have forgotten - she does have 3 children.

I think you ABU. The party is a week away. It may not be top of her priority list.

If the party was tomorrow and she hadn't called, your annoyance would be understandable.

Why not text her a gentle reminder?

Corkie d - I'm aware the party is a week away but as I said earlier I don't think picking the phone up and sorting out food for HER daughter is a lot to ask, especially when I've ensured the party bags are "safe" and I'm baking dairy free cakes for her it's a 5 minute call

I wouldn't bother chasing her up - it's her responsibility, you've done all you can already and have bent over backwards re the cake/sweets etc. Isn't most of the food that's likely to be served dairy free anyway? I'm thinking most places round here would be serving sausages, chicken nuggets, chips etc?

You'd be amazed what dairy can be in, Pineapplemilkshake. Chips often have a coating on which may have milk protein or lactose etc in, processed white meat often has milk protein in, bread, hell I've even seen one brand of tomato ketchup with dairy in it!

Yeah I suppose that is true RedOrange. In which case I'd definitely be leaving it to the mum of the allergic child to chase it up with the soft play centre!

Sorry, I've got to say it and you are probably expecting it to be said: £18 a head for soft play!
