So, scholarship to support women in STEM - a massive issue for all societies that we're not harnessing th talents of half our populations in this area.

If they're giving out a scholarship they can set the criteria. I think it's highly unlikely to be awarded to a bloke who's put on a dress in the hope of getting some cash.

That's just how it works if a man "identifies" as a woman he'll be offered the same opertunites it's only fair and vice versa.

The barriers to women entering aren't experienced by men - that's the whole point of needing to offer scholarships.

Before anyone says don't read if you're not intrested: I clicked on this thinking it would be an interesting example of actual sexism. But instead it's just mumsnet having another pop at trans-women. This rhetoric needs to stop. It reflects really badly on all of us.

I genuinely despair. Half the population of the world, discriminated against because of our biology, and now apparently biology is just an inconvenient aspect of being a woman (vs an underpinning key factor in the history of women's subjugation). And all the hard won freedoms and recognition of a power imbalance are being chipped away at because what is going on inside someone's head is apparently now the only relevant criteria for being a woman these days. If it wasn't really happening it would be a good sequel to The Handmaid's Tale.

Why should women revive scholarships for being women? I've seen a great improvement in the number of women in engineering and sciences. Whilst I think we need to get women to consider entering STEM I think the real challenge is shifting attitudes and ensuring that opportunities are available in employment. Before I get flamed I'm not a masogonist, I really support the concept of encouraging women to enter STEM I kust don't think this is the way.
