What is with these posts on FB?

People keep posting they need a bumbo, buggy, high chair, swing. It must be in excellent condition and suitable for a boy/girl.

If someone comments and it's the wrong colour, even if free, they immediately get told "i need it for a boy!"

Would it really kill your boy to sit on a pink high chair or damage your daughter femininity to sit in a blur bumbo?

It's not so much that that baffles me as when they're offered something completely neutral (like the white ikea highchair) and say they want a girl's one. Like they have to be actively pink and frilly and fairies to be suitable for a girl.

That said, if you put your girl in a very blue thing it's perhaps more obvious it's not new. Some people are very sensitive to being seen to have second-hand anything I do realise that's not exactly consistent with demanding freebies on public sites but not everyone is consistent.

I have to sit on my hands when I see the "need a X for a boy" (or girl) posts. I once saw one that someone needed a bath seat for a boy. A bath seat. Who the fuck even sees the bath seat that it matters what colour it is??

I got kicked off a few sites because of the "does anyone know where I can get a xxxxxx" and I responded with "try a shop".

Yes some people get very specific don't they.

Especially when it costs £££ and they want it as cheap as possible of even free

It's the people that ask for stuff for free and then ask for it to be delivered to them for free as well that make me seethe inside.

I know someone who blags everything for free, especially school uniform for her kids. (she has 7).

Then at the end of the school year she begs for more free stuff while simultaneously selling off the stuff her kids have been wearing for the past year which she also got for free.

This doesn't sit right with me. If you got it free, pass it on for free.

There's a site local to me that's notorious for the "Has anyone got an xxxx must be for a boy, excellent condition and free / really cheap. Delivered to ......." posts. I wonder if it's the same one, Midnite?

There was one recently asking for someone to go to Ikea for her.

I've been on the site for a while as it's often the same people asking. I've NO OBJECTION whatsoever to people asking for stuff when they're really in need: I've donated a lot of things over the years and am very happy to do this. I have even dropped things off to people. It's the unreasonable requests that annoy me - has to be very very specific. And free. I've even seen the "demander" get arsy when generously offered something that slightly deviates from what they want

This is the principal reason I stopped using Freecycle. I got so sick of the wanted posts for Wii controllers and other specific electrical goods, along with god knows what else. If you want it that much, put your hand in your pocket and buy it. Personally I think Freecycle should have Offered ads only. There are an awful lot of really greedy people out there.

If I was desperate enough, I would take the first working, clean item. I wouldn't care if it what colour it was and if it was slightly damaged as long as it was clean or at least cleanish and in good safe working order

I have someone on my FB who does this a lot.
Almost every other post from her starts "Does anyone have...."
The items requested aren't restricted to the sex of her child, it is simply down to her ethical concerns and penny pinching nature.
A good recent one was her search for a tray for her bumbo. Someone cheekily put up a link to Amazon who had them quite cheap.
Oh no, she couldn't get it from there as they treat their staff sooo badly. Now I know they do, but so do pretty much all major retailers.
In the end she threw a bit of a strop as, for once, nobody was prepared to give her free stuff. "I'll just get it from John Lewis then." was her last comment on the matter.
Should have just done that in the first place.
Her last post was asking if any friends had a garden swimming pool she and "bubs" could come and use. The only person who admitted that they did indeed have a pool lived in Thailand. Heh heh.
The only reason I haven't unfollowed her is that finally people have cottoned on to her act and are starting to get quite sarcastic and it's funny.

I saw one the other day asking for a Nuna Leaf for a girl must be pristine and she had no more than a tenner.

These things are something like £160 new and go for around £80-110 second hand in fair condition

She must be off her rocker!(pun intended). They cost a fortune and that's without the additional motor you can buy now

My friend borrowed my DD's very beautiful wicker bassinet thing...with pink rosebud liner and she used if for her third son...she said "I'm not having anymore...I won't get to use a rosebud liner ever so this is what he's having!"

She was very happy with my pink bumbo too!

The ones that make me laugh are "my friend just moved into a council house and needs to everything, beds, three piece suite, cooker, washer, tumble dryer". Why isn't your friend asking then? Possibly because you just want some stuff to sell?

I know what you mean, but sometimes people want very specific but very cheap things like used cardboard boxes for the toddler to make a space rocket from. It just takes a couple of people to say yes, we've got a box waiting to go to the tip and toddler's mother picks them up on the way to the supermarket, and everybody wins.

Wanted ads ought to be either for things that are difficult to buy (eg discontinued electronics or assorted boxes as above) or things that are cheap and non-specific - which would include "any single bed frame" and similar requests.
