Need xx. Must be in good condition and suitable for a boy/girl

What is with these posts on FB?

People keep posting they need a bumbo, buggy, high chair, swing. It must be in excellent condition and suitable for a boy/girl.

If someone comments and it's the wrong colour, even if free, they immediately get told "i need it for a boy!"

Would it really kill your boy to sit on a pink high chair or damage your daughter femininity to sit in a blur bumbo?

That was on Freecycle

BeJayKayven · 23/07/2016 14:27

Have these grabby entitled numpties always been around or is it the advent of the likes of Facebook selling and freecycle etc that has encouraged them.
Some people are so shameless, I'd rather go without than beg for a free thing - it's not as if an I pad or Nuna leaf are essential.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 23/07/2016 14:28

Serious chancers, aren't they.
but I suppose they're working on the "if you don't ask, you don't get" principle.

However, I do agree that if they were THAT desperate they'd take whatever; and since they don't, then they're just fucking cheap/tight bastards and should go to a shop that sells what they're actually after.

Banana99 · 23/07/2016 14:28

Ive seen someone recently put a gofundme on a local baby selling page because they'd 'lost' their buggy and needed a new one - wanted £80!

Mummyme1987 · 23/07/2016 14:31

What's a nuna leaf?
Misses the point of the thread. My kids are obviously not loved enough as I've never got them one! 😂

NeedACleverNN · 23/07/2016 14:32

A nuna leaf is a rocker swing type chair that is made by the company nuna.

It's one that you nudge and it rocks by itself for a bit. They have just released a motor you can clip on now (at additional cost) to have it rock for longer. It rocks side to side instead of forwards and backwards

Mummyme1987 · 23/07/2016 14:33

Oh that's why I have no idea. Mine are teens and adult! Lol

NeedACleverNN · 23/07/2016 14:36

It was only released in the last year.
Maybe two. It's quite a smart looking swing tbh but I could never justify paying £160 for one that needs you to constantly rock it

I have a friend on fb who does this on her status. Asking for stuff all the time! She's generally quite cheeky.
I bit one day when she asked if anyone had a dog bed. I said pets at home... I felt bad afterwards for being a bitch!

Gardencentregroupie · 23/07/2016 14:43

Fuck paying £160 and having to rock it yourself. My friend lent me her old Fisher price swing that rocked itself for DD. It was an absolute godsend, it was the only place she slept that wasn't my lap for the first 2 months of her life.

onecurrantbun1 · 23/07/2016 14:44

I once offered a pushchair to someone "desperate", could possibly have sold it for £40 or so but i'd got a bargain on it and was feeling generous. It was grey... "hoping for something more girlie hun"

I do tend to give away a fair bit on these sites but usually it's stuff like assorted bed linen (not necessarily sets) and a few household bits like kettles - low value (realistically no second hand market for them) but could make a real difference to someone skint or jist starting out

NeedACleverNN · 23/07/2016 14:49

I would rather give free items to a charity shop if it's got resale value.

My favourite was the mum, asking on behalf of her son, who had just moved into his first flat. He needed everything basically and part of her ad said "I'm not being funny but he wants dark brown leather 2 and 3 seater sofas with matching footstool, nothing floral or fabric, must be in excellent condition, must be able to deliver."

I was so tempted to reply with "I'm not being funny but try DFS."

NeedACleverNN · 23/07/2016 14:52

Wish I had thought about begging for freebies when I first moved out Grin

I desperately need £20 notes. Any condition, must be real though. Will take £10 or £50 notes, too.

HeyRobot · 23/07/2016 14:55

I know people like this on fb. 'Does anyone have a kitchen cabinet door/6 seater dining table they don't need?' And 'does anyone have some art skills? I need a mural for dc's bedroom wall'. If you don't know anyone well enough to know if they can paint then you don't know them well enough to get them to do you a massive favour.

NeedACleverNN · 23/07/2016 14:56

I could desperately use a house. Really cheap or free. Must be 3 bedrooms but won't say no to a 4th. Needs to be fully furnished with a large enclosed garden. Garden toys must also be included. One bedroom must be pink, one blue and the 3rd neutral colour.
Need ASAP please as I am very desperate. Also need help with moving

Mummyme1987 · 23/07/2016 15:00

Off topic but someone was selling fake money on Fb selling sites near me! £1500 fake for £1000 etc. The comments on that were classic!

Mummyme1987 · 23/07/2016 15:01

Why didn't I think of that Need? I was daft and got a mortgage! 😂

arethereanyleftatall · 23/07/2016 15:02

Yanbu!! It's bonkers.

'Need a Moses basket for a boy.' Wtaf. Is the new born likely to take offence of his basket isn't the right colour??

Also, I've posted photos of stuff before with a caption 'anyone want this for free before I take it to skip? It's outside my house, come get it.'
Then there's umpteen questions below 'what are the dimensions?' Etc etc. leave me alone!! It's free!!

EarthboundMisfit · 23/07/2016 15:03

Ah yes. I saw one last year but it's stuck with me. Something like 'moving into first house. Need a few basics if anyone is gifting like bed, wardrobe, chest of draws (it's always draws), sofa, fridge, freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, newish TV', excellent cond delivered, it's our first place so please help.'

NeedACleverNN · 23/07/2016 15:03

Grin my house mummy

If I get offered two, I will sell you the spare

I know someone else who has recently been getting rid of their baby stuff. IKEA antilop chair bought for £9, selling for £5. I just couldn't. They're cheap enough to buy new, if anyone needs a second hand one because they're hard up then I couldn't take £5 from them.

I usually offer things locally before getting rid of them in case anyone can make use of them and it saves me booking a collection. Last time I put photos up and basic dimensions and got the reply 'will it fit in my hall cupboard?' How would I know?

Lucyccfc · 23/07/2016 15:21

I wa selling a load of Playmobile stuff on FB a while ago. About £150 worth for £25. Pristine condition, with all the pieces. Gets a post asking 'Can I have it all for £10 and I need delivery to Wakefield'. Wakefield is a 90 minute drive from where I live, so I explained that to her. She came back and said she would give me £5 for petrol! I just asked if she was taking the piss. She called me rude!

I was giving away free blinds - 4 large ones in good condition. You should have seen everyone arguing on the thread over who should get them. I let them get on with it for about an hour and then reminded them that the blinds were mine and I was giving them to the first person who responded. Oh my goodness, the abuse I got!

I now never offer anything for free - I take everything to the tip or charity shop.

NeedACleverNN · 23/07/2016 15:26

Did they descend into "well I've got two children, their dad died last week and I've only got a tenner to last me until October" type arguing?
