Need xx. Must be in good condition and suitable for a boy/girl

What is with these posts on FB?

People keep posting they need a bumbo, buggy, high chair, swing. It must be in excellent condition and suitable for a boy/girl.

If someone comments and it's the wrong colour, even if free, they immediately get told "i need it for a boy!"

Would it really kill your boy to sit on a pink high chair or damage your daughter femininity to sit in a blur bumbo?

Needsasocamnesty that is one of the most satisfying things I have ever read on here! Grin

I put two pushchairs on Freecycle once, in consecutive messages. One was a practically never used MacLaren. One was a well-used but still fine 3 wheeler when 3 wheelers had gone out of fashion (much more expensive when new than the MacLaren).

I got LOADS of requests for the MacLaren. Including people who were "absolutely DESPERATE for a pushchair for their DC." They weren't bright enough to twig that if they were that desperate they would be asking for any pushchair.

It went to someone who said her DC was just at the stage of moving up to that sort of pushchair and it would be really nice if they could have it please.

I was once selling a pair of brand new superdry shoes. They were cheap as I'd got them in the sale but i'd bought them too big for DS and expected him to grow into them but he didn't...anyway I listed them at the price I'd paid but was willing to knock a pound or two off, think it was about £20.

Gets a message from someone offering me a fiver because her partner was disabled and therefore didn't need expensive shoes.

Ha ha ha at the "no way of filling up a paddling pool"

I run a Freegle group. We let on all the greedy wanted posts so members can see just who the greedy ones are. If we were to refuse those posts, you'd never spot them. I do often cut out the sob story bits, tho. Ordinary wanted posts are fine - often I'm too lazy to list stuff, or forget I have it until I see a wanted.
Also, report the sod who stole your buckets to the moderator. I kicked someone off my group for doing similar to that.. Even tho people know I run the group, I still get cheeky sods who don't turn up on time to get stuff.
The gendering of everything is far far worse now that it was 30+ years ago, when I had kids - I think partly because we didn't know the gender until the child was born.

But iPhones and iPads do generally cost twice as much as other tablets and phones that work in exactly the same way but just don't have the Apple brand name.

MrsHathaway · 24/07/2016 19:00

Absolutely you should be free to choose pink frills for your daughter and that's as valid a choice as neutrals or navy blue.

But when you're asking strangers to give you stuff for free, surely personal preference comes a distant umpteenth behind manners, practicalities, logistics, etc etc.

DeathByMascara · 24/07/2016 19:00

I saw someone posting a message on one of these Facebook sites saying 'I'm just moving in to a new place, need everything, what have you got' (along those lines). Not having seen one of these before, I offered 4 rolls of wallpaper we had left over - originally asked for £10 then decided she needed it more than me and said I'd give them to her for free. She asked me to deliver. Then hounded me, at least one message a day to find out when I would be driving 15miles in the opposite direction to give her the free wallpaper. In the end I told her that it was going to cost me money to deliver, and I would inform her when I would drop them off.

I've seen 4 other messages from the same girl along the same lines over the last year. She certainly 'starts off' very regularly.

MrsHathaway · 24/07/2016 19:01

Annie - unfortunately our local cheeky fucker is also the group owner.

not if you buy them second hand, or are given them from work. You can get a previous generation iPhone for less than 50 pounds now. Just think we shouldn't be too quick to judge what a person needs and/or can't afford new based on what piece of equipment they are using to send an email. Unless you know the person and know that they're irresponsible with money and you shouldn't make a judgement. Also I don't necessarily think that it's wrong to get second hand cheap stuff even if you can afford new. Saying you're desperate etc when you're not is wrong, but even people who can afford new hat doesn't mean they don't want to save money by getting second hand.

WaitrosePigeon · 24/07/2016 19:18

I'm not on FB so didn't even know this was a thing! Grabby bastards.

milpool · 24/07/2016 19:18

minatiae but if you were so bothered about wanting pink/blue or whatever you could easily get on eBay and look for some second hand bundles. Or buy new.

If you're so skint that you need to ask for stuff for free then tbh I don't think you can afford to be that picky. (That probably sounds really harsh, but the posts I see like this are all for cots/Bumbo seats/buggies/bouncy chairs. The colour of this stuff does not matter.)

greatbigwho · 24/07/2016 19:23

My favourite is the woman on our local group who asks for things like suitcases -"I'm going on holiday, they must be brand new, I can collect, cash ready to pay". She'll post this message daily, getting more and more desperate about how much she needs them.

I always want to ask why she doesn't just go to a shop?

Mynameisdominoharvey · 24/07/2016 19:26

greatbigwho send her my way I have a brand new one of those ridiculously light suitcases I'm never going to use Grin

SemiNormal · 24/07/2016 19:27

i once lost out on an item as I wrote 'yes, please'. Someone beat me to it by 1 second with 'yes' - just type a dot or single character next time then edit the comment straight away, should still show as you're first commenter.

C8H10N4O2 · 24/07/2016 19:37

Lucyccfc & MyBreadIsEggy Sounds familiar. When mine were little a bunch of us used to swap and share (fortunately none of us gave a monkey's about brands/gendering of items) but anything else in good condition - clothes, toys they had grown out of etc we used to bundle up a couple of times a year for the local women's refuge.
They used as much as the could specifically for the families in their care and anything they couldn't directly use went to their shop to raise money. It seemed a better use for the stuff than the few quid we would get from picky bugger who only wanted to sell onward at a bootsale.

KellyCapwell · 24/07/2016 19:39

On a related notes, there are so many teachers' groups with posts like:

Interview tomorrow. Any ideas for a Jack and Jill/ Humpty Dumpty themed lesson?

or

Anyone got a plan for XX?

Go and do your own work! Lazy gits!

YeOldMa · 24/07/2016 19:41

I'm glad it isn't only me. I get really uptight when I see all the "wanted" ads on Freecycle, especially when they are from the same people over and over again. I once offered stuff and this woman came round to collect it. She then proceeded to check out everything in the room and asked if I wanted to give that away too...especially the limited edition Wedgwood animals. Although I hate the blessed things, I wouldn't give them away to her on principle!

YourNewspaperIsShit · 24/07/2016 19:47

I had a huge animal set up taking up space in my house, sadly the animal passed of old age and the set up was worth £100+ but I was desperate to just not see it anymore and had no luck selling.

Finally decided to just stick it on for free, with dimensions, they must pick up. Well bloody hell within 0.5 seconds I had about 10 messages saying "can you deliver?", "can you hold it for me until next week?", etc. But the first person to message (who would normally be the one who gets it) said "what's your address I'm coming right now!" Shock It was almost threatening, needless to say I told her to fuck off i didn't even say she could have it.

Another one was when I found out DS had a milk allergy but had loads of unopened Aptamil tins so put a message asking if there was a food bank that could benefit from them. I was disgusted with the amount of people that asked for them "I can pick them up hun", "can I have them it's expensive".... I know it is that why the starving families need it Angry

Mynameisdominoharvey · 24/07/2016 20:00

yournewspaper that's shocking about the aptamil, some people never cease to amaze me

Upallnight9 · 24/07/2016 20:17

I get a bit obsessed reading the wanted ads on freecycle. We have had requests for a few cars and the odd motorbike but the other day someone asked for a caravan.

We also have a guy who posts every day asking for a something. He rotates his requests. I believe he got the DVD recorder and fridge freezer as he stopped asking for those but he still is asking for a push bike, digital radio, laptop and wardrobes. He has been asking for a long time so maybe people have realised.

BippityBoppityBullshit · 24/07/2016 20:44

This gem on one of my local feeds tonight...

Is anyone selling a potty suitable for a boy must be in immaculate condition thanks x

It's a potty, he's going to shit in it, does it really matter what the colour is? It's not a freebie group either so assuming she is happy to pay you can get really cheap mamas and papas on amazon.

CasanovaFrankenstein · 24/07/2016 20:46

Ermagherd... You can get white potties for £1 in Morrisons!!

HarryPottersMagicWand · 24/07/2016 20:57

I hate "wat phones ppl got" (swap phones for other random, expensive object), no punctuation, no legible English. Why do they even want to know?

I used to list frequently on FB selling sites but the illiteracy, huns, rudeness and tight arses have ruined it and I can't be bothered. Everything I sell is really decent stuff. Anything marked or slightly crappy is binned so it's only decent stuff that is worth more than a few quid goes on but the people ruin it. I was selling Happyland, excellent condition for a fair price, nope people wouldn't pay it. Same with quality clothes, no responses because it wasn't 50p probably.

I know not everyone can drive but the constant requests for delivering gets on my tits. I was selling some DVDs before and it was hard enough to understand wtf she was on about with her 'txt spk' but she then wanted delivery so I said there would be a charge, to which she said she only had 50p in her purse. I gave up answering in the end.

Oh and when I was selling the DVDs, I was being asked "hve u got ne ova kids 1s", well yes thanks but they belong to my children and are not for sale, otherwise I would have bloody advertised them!
