What is with these posts on FB?

People keep posting they need a bumbo, buggy, high chair, swing. It must be in excellent condition and suitable for a boy/girl.

If someone comments and it's the wrong colour, even if free, they immediately get told "i need it for a boy!"

Would it really kill your boy to sit on a pink high chair or damage your daughter femininity to sit in a blur bumbo?

we had one on Freecycle that was regulary asking for silver cross prams then near christmas it was adverts looking for the dolls version of the silver cross hard bodied pram for neice, daughter, granddaughter next door neighbour etc etc they must have had a wee scam going on getting them free and selling them on

treacletoffee23 · 24/07/2016 22:28

Makes me so cross. A mother and daughter ( with 3 profiles between them) regularly ask to be considered for ALL the gifted stuff on a couple of sites I'm on.No matter what it is. Was caught out though, reselling a gifted pushchair

ILoveMyMonkeys1404 · 24/07/2016 22:50

I recently put my 6 month old travel system ony local Gumtree site. It cost Me £1200 new and was in brilliant condition came with everything plus extras. Similar ones were selling for £600ovno. So i put it up for £500 someone rang me and offered me £80 in cash (how else would you pay 😐) when i said no they flooded me with abusive messages saying how selfish i was, and that i didn't understand her position. But personally its not got a thing to do with me i didn't know her, or owe her a thing!!! The cheek on some people is unreal.!

PurpleCrazyHorse · 24/07/2016 22:54

Sadly, my local group has stopped wanted posts, I'm waiting to join another group though!

I don't mind passing stuff on, especially baby clothes, but I'd rather do it via friends or mums at school. I tend to ask around. Can't be bothered with no shows and rude emails.

EsmesBees · 24/07/2016 22:55

There is one on my local one just now asking for a car seat for a girl. I don't think I've ever seen one that's not black or grey Confused

MsVestibule · 24/07/2016 23:07

I offered a Mamas and Papas travel system for free. One responder sent a message: 'Can you deliver to hun.' No I can't, you cheeky cow. WHY would I spend my time and petrol delivering something for free to somebody I don't know, who can't even say please? (TBF, even if she had said 'please', I still wouldn't have!)

Another one offered an Insanity workout DVD on Freecycle. I replied saying I would like it please. She replied saying 'Sure, it's £40, is that OK?'. No it's not, it's FREEcycle! And I reported her to the moderators .

Shizzlestix · 24/07/2016 23:23

We get this all the time on the local horsey site: 'Need bridle/saddle as cheap as possible' or 'Wanted: cheap horse up to £1000, must be bombproof, weight carrier, have all tack/rugs'. Makes me so blasted cross. Horses are not cheap to keep, if you can't afford to fork out for it, how do you propose to maintain it? There are often pleas about needing to move a horse and wanting free transport. Dunno what world these people live in.

People are very fussy re colour, too, asking for stuff in royal blue, green etc. If you're that fussy, fuck off and buy the matching whatever it is you want!

tallbirduk · 24/07/2016 23:36

The idea of FB selling sites is great, but it just seems like such a bun fight, and everyone wants something for nothing. I had a load of duplo to sell - offered it for less than I would on eBay, just for the convenience, and people were still trying to knock the price down by £10 or £15 when it was only £20 to start with. Sold it for £35 on eBay!!

Always worth a try though I suppose.

I had to stop using freecycle - the speed with which the requests started arriving (and the terrible cheek/lack of manners) always amazed me, my inbox couldn't cope and it made me really cross (I love giving stuff away, but a please and thank you would be nice)! People must be professional requesters!!! I use freelywheely for giving stuff away now. Less spammy.

I've never used schpock. Is that any good?

FasterThanASnakeAndAMongoose · 25/07/2016 05:02

A woman on my local one was asking for a bundle of Lamaze toys. Maximum £5. Must be suitable for a girl Hmm

I swear this is true, sadly. She already had a boy but obviously his Lamaze toys would do untold psychological damage to the girl she was expecting.

My dd and ds ride around in a BLUE double buggy! OMG. Also ds sometimes wears dd's older pink sleeping bags to bed. He's 6 months old. Will he catch the gay? Grin

Its pretty much the same as any other selling site, I found selling low cost baby itens takes aaaages to sell and you get a lot of time wasters on there, and a lot of people wanting to pay a lot less than you've asked. It is good for selling low cost baby items though, but you always get the people who want you to post the Timbuktu even if you expressly state "local sale only"

Mynameisdominoharvey · 25/07/2016 08:22

Sorry that was a huge typo...should have read Its pretty much the same as any other selling site, I found some itema take ages to sell
I dont know why but on MN if I go to edit my post it jumps up a line or two and I end up editing in the wrong place

Naicecuppatea · 25/07/2016 11:47

I laugh when I see sellers trying to offload New Look/Primarni/Select dresses all crumpled on hangers for twice the £5 or whatever they bought them for! Funnily enough there are no responses to their ads.

NeedACleverNN · 25/07/2016 11:52

I actually have someone on one of my selling sites trying to sell things for over a year!

They bump them up everyday and still no one is interested. Give up ffs. Donate them to a charity shop or bin them

QueenoftheAndals · 25/07/2016 11:54

ShockShockat that post Peek

Naicecuppatea · 25/07/2016 11:54

I have no words Peek, OMG!

ChatterNatterer · 25/07/2016 14:08

I car booted a load of clothes when I lost weight - nice trousers from Wallis - lots of work stuff with a lot of life left in them, some not really worn, about 5 years ago.

It was the folks who come round, touch all the clothes up and just grunt 'ow much and then tut when you say 50p or a £1 and offer 20p - do you know what, no thanks, I'll give it to a charity shop!

I still made over £80 without having to horse trade over 30p with folk thankfully! But next time (please god all the baby weight and more falls off!! ha) I'll just give it to charity I reckon! Couldn't get over the cheek of some people!

spidey66 · 25/07/2016 14:30

Not FB or Freecycle but....

I own a property in St Ives which I advertise on Holiday Lettings. One school summer holidays it was £500 for a week, inclusive of WiFi, parking space (gold dust in St Ives) and linen hire.

One woman emailed me and asked ''can I have it a bit cheaper please, say £250.''

That'll be a no, then. I don't even offer it cheap to family and friends in peak season, let alone a stranger.

I wanted to helpfully suggest the camp site up the road.

FlyingElbows · 25/07/2016 14:55

I've only recently found my local fb selling site but omg it's comedy gold. How people have the brass neck to sell stuff they've obviously stolen is beyond me. The ones who want entire houses kitted out for nothing are insane. Why anyone would ever want to buy a Buckfast hamper complete with football colours glittery glasses is beyond me. But my absolute favourite is the absolute monstrosities that pass for pram accessories. I will burn in my middle class snob hell but seriously why would you?

I'm currently selling three horses and am about to have a breakdown from the fb nutters. My favourite was the drunk one in the middle of the night. Mental

emmyhNL · 25/07/2016 15:17

I never realised you could get bumba's in anything other than blue. My daughter will be traumatised as she smears it with food!

I've recently started using these sights in an effort to declutter and not have more stuff ending up in a landfill but they're incredibly taxing. Despite being clear you still get opportunists asking for it to be less.

Do any of you know any decent ones?

WankersHacksandThieves · 25/07/2016 15:58

PeekAtChu That's the best brass neck I seen. loving the picture of the baby in the background - presumably they'd arranged a babysitter or was the buyer also to look after the wean too?

WyldChyld · 25/07/2016 17:03

The best worst one I saw was "sellin x item, gd condition, want £30". Cue three or four people pointing out this item only cost £25 new from a reasonably local store. Cheeky cow then comes back and goes "ano hun but my sis bought me it as a present and it's not fair for me to lose out"!!!! She wanted compensating for selling this well used piece of crap.

Cheeky cow also posted a few weeks ago begging for a fiver cause she'd spent her emergency electricity credit already and couldn't afford to get her electric meter back on cause she'd lost her child benefit when her kid was taken into care and it was unfair. Might have had more sympathy if she'd not posted a load of photos out on the lash the night before waving a bottle of vodka about.

It really boils my piss!!

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 25/07/2016 17:08

My DD has a blue bumbo I got off FB. I must have missed the memo that blue is for a boy Hmm Grin
