Need xx. Must be in good condition and suitable for a boy/girl

What is with these posts on FB?

People keep posting they need a bumbo, buggy, high chair, swing. It must be in excellent condition and suitable for a boy/girl.

If someone comments and it's the wrong colour, even if free, they immediately get told "i need it for a boy!"

Would it really kill your boy to sit on a pink high chair or damage your daughter femininity to sit in a blur bumbo?

Needed. Winning numbers for the next big jackpot on the Lottery. Must be exclusive.

MyBreadIsEggy · 23/07/2016 18:43

All the haggling on FB selling sites does my tits in!!
I was planning on selling a few of my dd's babygros (from Next, never worn, still with tags on, we're £16 for a pack of two when I bought them). I offered them on a baby items page for £5 for the bundle.....I had someone ask if I would take £2.50 and drop off in town. Urrrm no mate.
I ended up donating them to my local Women's Aid refuge, who just happened to have a lady living there with a newborn Dd at the time! Good deed for the day! Everyone's a winner! Except Mrs £2.50

paxillin · 23/07/2016 18:46

That's greedy. It's hot here. I need a tub of ice cream. Must be chocolate or mint, vanilla at a push. I need it before the end of the weekend and delivered to the door. No smaller than 1 litre, there are 4 of us.

Gardencentregroupie · 23/07/2016 18:58

Needed - someone to do my shift at work tonight. Must be security vetted and have access to the computer systems I do. Must deliver self. Grin

SlowJinn · 23/07/2016 19:00

I now never offer anything for free - I take everything to the tip or charity shop.

Me too. I recently moved into a house by the sea. The vendors had asked if we would clear the shed ourselves to ensure a quick completion. No problem. The shed was full of children's toys - a couple of ride-on tractors, a mini trampoline, mini goalposts, footballs, a couple of scooters, waterguns, an 'easy up pool' still in it's box, various bat and ball games (still boxed), an unopened stunt kite - it was a holiday home that we bought as a permanent residence.

Our children are all grown and we have no grandchildren (yet) so I joined the local For Sale/Free/Swap group on facebook. Everything was FREE. Must be able to collect from the seaside town in which I live.

Oh my goodness the responses I got made me properly laugh. So many people wanted the stuff to be delivered free of charge despite living 40+ miles away. The others wanted photographs, dimensions, estimated resale value and so on.

Fortunately St Kentigern Hospice accepted all our stuff and sold it for a few quid at their summer garden party.

I've just checked my local site inspired by this thread and somebody is selling a used pair of black school pumps for £1, presumably the ones there child has just finished with for the school year. They cost £2 for brand news ones in the supermarkets! i am amazed people have the time or energy try and sell this low priced crap.

I have a box of about 20 pairs from my three dc, wonder of anyone wants to give me 20 quid for them?

Banana99 · 23/07/2016 19:09

I tried to sell something recently on FB, brand new in box. Cost about £160 new (although I didn't pay that), tried selling for £100 and when no joy dropped it to £90

'Would you take £20'...no. '£30 because my kids really want it'.....no.

Sold it on guntree for £90, then I get loads of messages from £20/30 person asking where it's gone - then complaining they would have paid £90 and how much their kids wanted it ...Well why the fuck didn't you!!!

CurlyBlueberry · 23/07/2016 19:11

It's not even "need it gone" round here, it's just "need gone"!

Masketti · 23/07/2016 19:18

I never offer anything for free now after the piss takers I've had. There's always people wanting bricks on our local Free Everything FB page so when I knocked a wall down I offered them. Man the questions!!! Are they hole (whole)? Yes look at the photo. When are you around for me to collect? They're on my lawn so come and help yourself. How many are there? Who the hell knows! Look at the photo and guess!

To be fair the people who picked them up were very polite in the end but seriously. They were free!!

I now offer stuff for £1 to weed out time wasters. I currently consider myself a genius as it's cut down on wasted time exponentially.

I'm lucky I haven't been screwed over but a couple of friends have bought bundles of clothes that have had to go straight in the bin.

There's loads of selling sites round our way and I'm on about a dozen so I watch out for people buying on one and selling on another. E L T has a nasty habit of bumming stuff off the free site and selling it as 'not needed' on other sites. Don't bloody pick it up then! Also she bums free stuff all the time like outdoor toys for her kids in the garden but then on another mums support site is asking where's best to go on holiday all inclusive cos her kids haven't had a holiday in ages. Well glad you've got your priorities right love! All that selling on other people's kindly donated stuff must have made you a pretty penny!!!

Callaird · 23/07/2016 19:19

paxillin I have a large Tupperware of homemade mint choc chip in the freezer, will swap for a pizza, delivered please, cheers hun!

Our FB sellers are even lazier 'Needs gone asap' hate, hate, hate it. Why would that make people keener to buy it?!

paxillin · 23/07/2016 19:34

You pick up the pizza when you deliver the ice cream, Callaird?

thecatsarecrazy · 23/07/2016 19:47

I'm having a baby in February. Think I might wait until January and say " I'm having a baby and have nothing, what do people have cheap or free?" Grin

arethereanyleftatall · 23/07/2016 19:53

i once lost out on an item as I wrote 'yes, please'. Someone beat me to it by 1 second with 'yes'

Highlandfling80 · 23/07/2016 19:57

Yanbu. My jaw frequently drops to the floor with these posts. One particular gem on free cycle was. Wanted flat screen TV. If you have one for free please email me the model number so I can see if it meets my requirements.

Cerseirys · 23/07/2016 19:58

I once saw a navy Silver Cross Pop on eBay for £80. The seller stated that it was good as new as her son had hardly been in it, but that she was selling it because she now had a baby girl and needed the money to buy a girl's stroller!

I remember someone advertising a pink toy piano on one of the Facebook groups because they wanted to swap it for something "suitable for a boy". I was quite tempted to post a reply asking exactly what part of his anatomy he planned to play it with if the current piano was unsuitable for a boy.

Vixxfacee · 23/07/2016 21:00

Does anyone have any links to these? I am not on fb and I feel like I'm missing out!

HeyRobot · 23/07/2016 21:02

I'm not even on any selling sites. I obviously just know a lot of cheeky people.

DeltaSunrise · 23/07/2016 21:40

We have a local pay it forward page on Facebook which I use to give away free stuff now.

The rules are strict, you need to be asked to be considered and use your manners. No sob stories or reasons allowed and only 4 requests per week. Admin are hot on the rules and it gives everyone a fair chance. None of this cheeky fuckwittery or else your post gets deleted and repeat offenders get blocked from the page. If there's a lot of requests for an item, the giver usually uses random.org to choose.

It makes giving free stuff away a breeze.

I hated the freecycle pages for the type of stuff this thread describes. There's some assholes around.

CombineBananaFister · 23/07/2016 22:02

Oooh, thats a good idea Delta. I rarely do the freecycle stuff but if I do I usually ask what their favourite charity is and give a couple of quid donation next time I see them collecting.
Round here people just leave stuff outside with notes on it which is on a school run so stuff gets picked up quickly and no landfill :)

Tanith · 23/07/2016 22:39

Glad I live on my estate. Every so often someone will put an item or two at the end of their front garden with a note inviting anyone who wants it to take it.
Decent quality, some is furniture, some games, even saw a wardrobe once!

I've done it myself a few times and every time, the person has knocked the door to double check that we don't want money for it.

Who needs Freecycle? Smile

TotallySpies17 · 24/07/2016 12:30

A man recently put 'anyone got a tv' on our local free fb group. A number of the comments were about his bad manners and he subsequently deleted the post. It's the rudest one I've seen!

EarthboundMisfit · 24/07/2016 12:36

The other thing that bugs me is 'Garden bench. £80. Needs a bit of TLC' when it's a rotted carcass fit only for the bonfire.

LavenderRains · 24/07/2016 12:45

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the gem that crops up often.......

"Wanted Chester draws" gets me every timeGrinGrin
