To actually hate most things about UK summers

Where do I start?

Flys. In the house, shitting everywhere. Sitting on my fruit and playing bloody games with me.

Sweating. I can't go for a walk, do the school run without looking a sweaty mess. I never know what to wear either as its cloudy first thing then baking hot later. The gym is not a nice place to be and neither is actually going for a run.

Sun cream. Sticky and horrible. Kids hate having it on. I hate putting it on them.

Sunhats. On afore mentioned kids. Won't keep them on.

BBQs. Horrid. Too much meat, rolls going crispy where they've been left out. Sweaty cheese. Limp, warm salads.

Smug people sat outside pubs because they can

Everyone saying isn't the weather lovely.

Roll on Autumn. AIBU?

Autumn is my favourite season, but i do like Summer. I love it even more abroad though, and would spend it all in Spain or Italy if i could Smile
Couple of things i hate about Summer in the UK, are disturbed sleep because it's too hot, flies, and wasps, and my least favourite of all,- barbecues. The smell of cheap burn meat makes me heave.

HostaFireandIce · 08/06/2016 15:10

YANBU for all of the above reasons. And why has only one person mentioned wasps?! Also the conversations about how we moan about the heat, but we moan about the cold and the rain too, don't we? Nope, not me. I love cold and rain!

SenecaFalls · 08/06/2016 15:10

This thread is a hoot. Y'all need some air conditioning and screens on the windows. And to spend some time in a really hot climate for comparison.

heron98 · 08/06/2016 15:10

Oh, and if you're too hot at night, sleep in the garden! Last night I lay on my duvet on the grass and slept there. Lovely and cool.

seeyounearertime · 08/06/2016 15:11

Things i hate about summer, in no particular order:

Peoples music blaring
Sun giving me headaches
"da Ladz" in shorts and no shirts
people drinkning too much
humidity
sun burn
being told that if you havent been out and been miserable due to the above that you're "wasting the day"

I like October and being on my own.

I like it if I don't have to do anything and can shower as many times as I like.

I lose so much heat through my head and I have fine hair and so I currently look as if I've just stepped out of the shower. I haven't. Angry

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 08/06/2016 15:12

I love wearing sunglasses so I don't have to make full 'interested' eye contact with people. That's good about summer. Grin

Lots of grinches reunited in a single thread...

StubbleTurnips · 08/06/2016 15:13

Summer is an A-Hole.

Give me rain / wind / snow I can cope. I hate everything about summer.

i like summer and getting a tan but despise being too hot

SimplyNigella · 08/06/2016 15:19

I am not a summer fan and certainly won't be moaning when it turns cooler or wetter.

Autumn is my favourite season but I'm perfectly content in winter too.

Pinkheart5915 · 08/06/2016 15:20

YABU I love summer

Today dh is at work so me and baby ds are sun creamed up in the garden I'm eating massive amounts of ice cream, might go for a little swim in the pool and even have a BBQ tonight its great!

Oh God, yes, I agree with all the above.

The make-up which slides off your face by midday. The hair that goes limp and greasy. No... energy... what. so... ever... Not being able to sleep because it's too hot. Acres of man flesh sweating all over public places. The sheer noise outside from people, car radios, digging, strimming, mowing etc. drinks turning warm as soon as you've poured them.

I LOVE the cold months.

Iamblossom · 08/06/2016 15:25

I prefer Autumn and Winter.

But I honestly don't agree you can moan about half the things on here..

Summer clothes - it never gets so hot you can't wear ali baba type loose cotton trousers and a light long sleeved t-shirt - why do you need to put suncream on if you are wearing that? Sit in the shade. No need for shorts and tank tops, so you don't HAVE to shave your legs if you don't want to.

I do agree sleep is harder though and I am very tired today after being too hot last night. I don't like having many windows open as then the dawn chorus wakes me up at 4am, but if you don't you boil.

We have blackout blinds and black out curtains in every bedroom though, so can be as dark as you like whatever the time.

Don't worry - it won't last - be raining next week! Grin

This is a thread after my own heart! I can't wait for the Autumn to make its appearance again.

Hedgehogparty · 08/06/2016 15:27

Pike, yes, the feeling of autumn.............can't come soon enough.
Rain and dark nights, bring it on.

THE SLUGS!!!

seeyounearertime · 08/06/2016 15:28

one i should mention, something i really dislike.
the later evenings, or more specifically, the people around here that let their kids play out in the later evenings until 9.30.
Screaming and shouting, kicking footballs, listening to shitty music on their shitty phones, chucking cans at each other etc etc.

Get to bed you little bastards, you've got school tomorrow.

TheTurtleMoves · 08/06/2016 15:28

I feel summer is a lot like NEw Year's Eve. Lots of pressure to have fun and to make the most of it, cue lots of people getting over-excited at the first glimpse of sunshine and getting pissed/lairy/half-naked/sunburnt in an effort to prove their cool, summer-fun-ness.

Much prefer Autumn when there are proper rules in place, like day and night being of approximately equal length for example.
