To actually hate most things about UK summers

Where do I start?

Flys. In the house, shitting everywhere. Sitting on my fruit and playing bloody games with me.

Sweating. I can't go for a walk, do the school run without looking a sweaty mess. I never know what to wear either as its cloudy first thing then baking hot later. The gym is not a nice place to be and neither is actually going for a run.

Sun cream. Sticky and horrible. Kids hate having it on. I hate putting it on them.

Sunhats. On afore mentioned kids. Won't keep them on.

BBQs. Horrid. Too much meat, rolls going crispy where they've been left out. Sweaty cheese. Limp, warm salads.

Smug people sat outside pubs because they can

Everyone saying isn't the weather lovely.

Roll on Autumn. AIBU?

tinkly DH does that. If it's me i make 'em brave it Grin

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 08/06/2016 14:42

Yabu. Longer days, lovely warm weather :)

I'm also allergic to sun and hate being too hot but I just dress appropriately and go out more in the evenings and mornings.

I love all the seasons though. The older I get the more I find the good in each (although I could do without static hair and hay fever).

FloatyFlo · 08/06/2016 14:43

YABU - would much rather be able to sit in the garden relaxing, kids having fun splashing in the paddling pool than be stuck inside.

I like this too. But I can't really do it comfortably in the height of summer. Headaches. Sunburn. Dehydration. Bugs.
I love sitting outside in spring or autumn. Or when it's cooler in the summer evenings but in the middle of a hot day it's horrible!

Lottielou7 · 08/06/2016 14:43

Usually I completely agree. This year for some reason I'm enjoying the hot weather. I put it down to the fact that I'm on antidepressants Grin

The80sweregreat · 08/06/2016 14:44

paddling pools - stinky horrible things. Wet garden for days. Just a nightmare. Soo glad those days are long gone! Who invented them?
Flies, bbqs, sweaty armpits.. Blooming grass and only have a small garden.
All a nightmare. ( often told i am a bah humbug ) people seem to love it.

Lemonylemon · 08/06/2016 14:44

Mozzies. The bloody mozzies. They LOVE me. I am covered in bites and look like a toad...

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 08/06/2016 14:45

Oh and about a year or so ago I made a conscious decision to stop caring what other people might think about how I look.

I wear what I like and I'm much happier for it. Plus I can't see my thread veins or milk bottle legs unless I twist round and look. Not my problem.

I'm no super model, just very ordinary. Most of us are, so stop apologising for it and embrace having a healthy body in all its perfectly ordinary and common imperfections.

Andrewofgg · 08/06/2016 14:46

Wimbledon. Hours and bloody hours of it. Turn the Centre Court into a cabbage field.

And this year the Olympics too. Roll on the closing ceremony.

Luckystar1 · 08/06/2016 14:48

I like the summer for the being outside. But only if I'm sitting. I mean, doing literally ANYTHING else means I'm sweating profusely, swearing under my breath, and almost crying. I'm not good in the heat. Especially not this muggy, horrible heat , dry heat with a sea breeze I can deal with.

I have really oily skin so sun cream is horrible stuff. I'm white as a sheet so I look horrible in all summer clothes. I like the loose fitting cotton/linen, but I look awful in it (not like the beautiful olive skinned Mediterranean women that I want to look like).

Plus, we've just had a lawn laid so I'm having to constantly water it, but I'm 33 weeks pregnant so balancing precariously from the railway sleepers to do it is proving ever more difficult.

Oysterbabe · 08/06/2016 14:49

Chub rub. That is all.

oldlaundbooth · 08/06/2016 14:49

Yeah, it was summer here last week but now it's back to 12 degrees and windy so I'm happy.

I hate being too hot.

Hate wearing summer clothes, look and feel a mess.

Suncream is gross, ugh.

Hate sweating loads and feeling obligated to go outside because it's sunny!!

oldlaundbooth · 08/06/2016 14:50

Ooof, the dreaded chub rub, forgotten about that one Oyster.

salsamad · 08/06/2016 14:52

Yabvu. Even though I have hay fever I absolutely love the summer - being outside on sunny days, wearing strappy sandals and summery clothes, sunbathing, drinking long cold icy alcoholic drinks, eating ice creams and ice lollies, family BBQs.😎👙🍹
People who moan about it being too hot after a couple of days of temps higher than 19 degrees drive me mad. To be honest I quite like Spring and Autumn too but I can't stand being cold so hate the Winter months.

HighDataUsage · 08/06/2016 14:56

I've just put the washing out & it started to pour it down with thunder & lightening. It was sunny & hot when I put the washing out. Sad

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 08/06/2016 14:59

I hate summer so much. I hate

Sandals
Being hot
Having frizzy hair
Not wearing black tights
Everything being sticky
Not being able to sleep because the window shut is too hot and open its too noisy
How everything is sleeveless or strapless

DrCoconut · 08/06/2016 15:00

VU to dislike summer Grin I long for it all through the dark, damp depression that is Autumn, winter and much of Spring if we're honest. So it's a no to horrid itchy jumpers and being stuck inside, yes to sun and being able to get out! It hasn't even been really hot here yet.

ChipsandGuac · 08/06/2016 15:00

It's only early June, summer hasn't even officially started and people are whingeing about how they hate summer. In 3 weeks time, they'll be whingeing about how there hasn't been a summer and how it feels like autumn already. Or, seeing as Wimbledon's approaching, wondering if it will ever stop raining.

Notso · 08/06/2016 15:02

YABU - would much rather be able to sit in the garden relaxing, kids having fun splashing in the paddling pool than be stuck inside.

That is the summer ideal I suppose. I find the reality is, wasp in the paddling pool, frizzy hair, spider in the paddling pool, hay fever, constant fear of sun burn, grass in the paddling pool, fly in my drink, kids get bored and want to watch TV, wet clothes, towels and puddles of water everywhere, and I still have to think of something to cook for dinner that won't slow roast me as I cook it.

Autumn, spring and summer, great. Summer, crap.

namechangeparents · 08/06/2016 15:02

:)

I prefer spring and autumn. It really annoys me when we get a cold spring. A warm April's day is never too hot. It's lovely when September is nice too although the evenings are too short.

The school holidays are at the wrong time of year too :(

WaitrosePigeon · 08/06/2016 15:03

I agree.

Summer makes me angry and tired. Not exactly sure how it's pleasant at all. It puts me in a bad mood in the mornings

I love Autumn, Winter and Spring though. Especially Winter when it's really cold.

Notso · 08/06/2016 15:03

Or seeing as Wimbledon's approaching... another reason I hate Summer, Sport taking over the TV.

mrswhiplington · 08/06/2016 15:04

I agree with all that's been said. Only plus side to warm weather is not having to put the heating on, saving money.Smile

Hate not sleeping properly and sweating as soon as I've showered.

I do like sitting outside watching the birds though, we've got baby sparrows nesting in our roof and you can see them popping their heads out when waiting to be fed.

Hedgehogparty · 08/06/2016 15:05

Don't like summer at all. Not good in heat, skin sun allergy and hayfever and find it hard to sleep in hot weather.

Bring on Autumn, my favourite season.

steppemum · 08/06/2016 15:06

I LOVE IT

YABU

love the grass, love the plants, love the sounds of mowing, love wearing shorts.

I lived overseas for 10 years. 2 years in tropics (now that really is sweaty and humid) 8 years in country where it is -30 in winter and +30 in summer, no trees and lots of dust.

I sit at look at all the GREEN and just. love. it.

YAB hugely U.

I love summer. I feel so alive and energised - I truly think I am solar powered.

I spend all winter wanting to sleep and feeling exhausted from the cold.

For the three days a year it gets above 20 degrees in Yorkshire, I am actually so happy I could dance.
