To actually hate most things about UK summers

Where do I start?

Flys. In the house, shitting everywhere. Sitting on my fruit and playing bloody games with me.

Sweating. I can't go for a walk, do the school run without looking a sweaty mess. I never know what to wear either as its cloudy first thing then baking hot later. The gym is not a nice place to be and neither is actually going for a run.

Sun cream. Sticky and horrible. Kids hate having it on. I hate putting it on them.

Sunhats. On afore mentioned kids. Won't keep them on.

BBQs. Horrid. Too much meat, rolls going crispy where they've been left out. Sweaty cheese. Limp, warm salads.

Smug people sat outside pubs because they can

Everyone saying isn't the weather lovely.

Roll on Autumn. AIBU?

I did actually sleep in the garden once....my dog had a bad reaction to a worming medicine and wouldn't settle. He kept pacing and wanted to lay outside. So I got the garden recliner and laid on that with my duvet. I didn't sleep properly though as I was conscious I was outside, then it started drizzling.

Ended up on the sofa in the end with the windows open. Luckily Nero was happy with that

What temperature is it where you whinging mob are?

I am quite pale skinned but love this time of year. Its mid 20s where I am and will go up to mid 30s but we have neighbours with real pools and we have the paddling ones which keeps the kids happy.

Ellybellyboo · 08/06/2016 15:32

YABU!

I LOVE it.

Everything feels so much better when the sun is out

Later nights and the kids playing out, being able to wander into town for an ice cream after tea. We have music festivals, sailing days, chilling on the beach.

I'm never too hot, I'm always freezing and hate the dark months of winter, pissing rain and not being able to leave the house without getting soaked/frozen

Yep, I hate flies ( have a bit of a phobia about them), also hate mosquitos , they have already started targeting me. I never feel I look stylish in the summer just a big sweaty mess. Going to work in a physical job in a tight uniform running around for 8 hours in the heat is unbearable and exhausting. I'm thinking of giving up work for the summer.

Princesspinkgirl · 08/06/2016 15:34

I'm 11+4 it is hot but I'm actually enjoying the sun it's lovely I carry a drink and handheld fan when out if indoors Windows open cold drinks and relax Smile

SugarMiceInTheRain · 08/06/2016 15:35

YANBU, a bit of sunshine is nice, but I seem to sweat like a pig on days like today, even when I'm indoors. Hate the flies, and the wasps ruin picnics. I don't mind days out with the family - they don't notice what a sweaty mess I am, but I am so envious of all these people who look effortlessly summery and cool in the heat while I either sit in the shade looking like a grump, or grin and bear it, knowing that I won't tan, just get an unfeasible amount of freckles or a lobster look if I've forgotten to baste myself from head to toe in sticky, sweat-inducing factor 50! Children love it though, and I'd rather they were running round outside getting fresh air and exercise than glued to the screens!

LaBelleOtero · 08/06/2016 15:37

YADNBU!! I'm sitting here with a blister on my hand and nettle injuries on my legs from gardening yesterday - when I also accidentally strimmed a mouse!

Fuck summer. I won't be happy until the leaves turn orange.

The first post had it right

Just go and be one of the smuggers in the pub Grin

A lovely cold beer or Sancerre. Someone bringing you chips or olives.

Love pubs in the summer

BungoWomble · 08/06/2016 15:42

Don't forget this horrible British hot 'closeness'. Seems to be permanently on the edge of a thunderstorm which never breaks, or if it does it's only for a few hours. July is headache month for me.

At least I only get to hate 1 month or 2 in a year, whereas for sun worshippers it's the whole year except July!

TattyCat · 08/06/2016 15:42

I LOVE summer. I feel utterly depressed in winter and can't get moving - the dark, dull, grey days make me feel sluggish. When the sun's out, even the grottiest of places looks ok as well, it's a delight.

Living in the middle of nowhere, I get bitten to buggery by horseflies, so when we get new windows, I'm having fitted screens to keep the sods out and make it possible to have the windows open all night and also be mozzie free (they love me, unfortunately and leave DP well alone!).

squoosh · 08/06/2016 15:43

A beer garden in the summer. Cider and a nice sun umbrella for a bit of shade.

Heaven.

LittleLionMansMummy · 08/06/2016 15:43

The biggest issue for me is that it always promises so much and then fails to deliver. Take August as an example. It's a summer month, yet 9 times out of 10 is bloody awful - more likely to have to dodge rain and wind than flying ants and suncream. We always got allocated a week with my DSDs in August by DH's ex. I swear she only did it because she knew we could only afford camping and it would be miserable for all of us. So, I hate August in particular. But when UK summer is 'on form' I absolutely love it!

LittleLionMansMummy · 08/06/2016 15:46

When I say we were allocated a week, I mean we very much wanted a week with DSDs but it always seemed to be we were left with a week right at the end of August, when they'd had a much better time in sunnier climes. It invariable spent the week pissing it down.

squoosh · 08/06/2016 15:47

I'm sitting here with a blister on my hand and nettle injuries on my legs from gardening yesterday - when I also accidentally strimmed a mouse!

Yeah, yeah poor you, you've got a blister! What about poor Mr Mouse and his be-strimmed body? He may have a spouse and 27 kids at home awaiting his return.

'Daddy will be home soon children....I'm sure he just been delayed' said Mrs Mouse as she tried to hide the anxious catch in her voice. Little does she know he's been Flymoed.

LaBelleOtero · 08/06/2016 15:49

Funnily PrivatePike a cup of tea was my first thought. "Put the kettle on DP, I'm traumatized!" He can deal with the garden for the rest of summer Wink

expatinscotland · 08/06/2016 15:49

No screens on windows = insects. Midgies. Hayfever.

GlassCircles · 08/06/2016 15:49

The only good thing about summer is beer gardens - as long as you can sit in the shade.

Hate: the pressure to be out roasting in the sunshine, the sweatiness, the FB posts about gorgeous sunny activities with the kids.

I hate BEACHES too... sandy sticky burny circles of hell.

LaBelleOtero · 08/06/2016 15:50

Don't squoosh! Anyway, he was at rest, I was the one who had to dispose of the body. Ugh, now I'm feeling icky again...

squoosh · 08/06/2016 15:51

I love beaches, as long as they're empty. Those beaches that they show on new bulletins on the hottest day of the year look like hell on earth. Human pic n mix.

I kind of agree, but I can't fully (yet) - give me another month, I'm 24w as of today and I'm sure I'll want to rage out eventually.

I don't think it's anything to do with heat, sweat, stickiness, BBQ's or suncream that gets me. It's that faux summer nonsense in shops when everyone shits themselves with excitement over something they never, ever care about. That said, I feel the same way about any hyper-commercialized season or event (Christmas was ruined for me years ago).

I found the Jubilee just gagging tbh, but feel the same way about football tournaments when everyone becomes a football fan for approximately 2 hours with those god-awful flags attached to cars.

DSS burns really easily and has allergies that are 10x worse in the summer too, so anything DP and I would usually do to 'escape' during the summer is tempered with knowing we'd need to plan an arsenal of medications, creams and change of clothes which usually takes some of the shine off it Grin He's determined to take DSS camping this year before the baby is here, which I find admirable, and I'm jealous because I love camping.

I'm just a miser because I'm desperate for a beer garden afternoon-night Grin Well, maybe next summer....

pigsDOfly · 08/06/2016 15:57

Give me Spring or Autumn or even winter.

The trouble is British summers are too hot, often unpredictable and muggy.

Here, yesterday was overcast and boiling hot all day. I had a rare headache and felt sweaty and uncomfortable. By about 6ish the dark clouds had gathered and the biggest raindrops ever started hurtling from the sky: thunder, lightning, massive hailstones and the ground was running with water.

Today is boiling hot again so can't walk the dog until later in the evening, again - double coated and hates the heat - so I'm bored and so is she. Her routine is all over the place and she doesn't know what's going on.

Flies! Horrible filthy things and they're everywhere.

I love the sun, and nothing beats a lovely sunny spring day or a crisp sunny autumn day, but summer makes me feel hot and tired and washed out. Hate it.
