to ask how much money you have in the bank

I don't really talk about money to anyone in real life, other than my DM and DP.

I'm being nosy, I know but a few numbers aren't going to out me!

I get paid on Friday so I currently I have £5.54 in my account and £15k locked away in ISA's and Bonds.

How much do you have in the bank?

SpaceUnicorn · 01/06/2016 20:47

SpaceUnicorn wait, you mean thats not the name on your bank

I'll get back to you on that ASAP. I'm just in the middle of replying to a lovely solicitor from Nigeria regarding an inheritance I am inexplicably entitled to claim.

BIWI · 01/06/2016 20:47

Shall I give you my address and also tell you when I'm going away on holiday? Hmm

You're all very foolish to be giving this information away.

TaraCarter · 01/06/2016 20:48

Son 1 has got £8.04 in his money box due to being extremely frugal. Son 2 has £2.41.

ceeveebee · 01/06/2016 20:52

Well maybe they would access the passwords somehow through mumsnet back end or phishing - no, wait, that could never happen could it?

seafoodeatit · 01/06/2016 20:53

Around 30k in savings/help to buy isa (20k of which is inherited from dh's gran) which will disappear into deposit , fees, stamp duty etc when we buy next year and £9k in a joint a ISA which we use and top up through the year for unexpected spending/months when DH's salary needs a boost.

alphabettyspaghetty · 01/06/2016 20:54

£75 in the joint and minus £58 in my current. Lots of debt (credit cards etc)

Due an inheritance in the next 6 months which will help the debt situation Sad

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 01/06/2016 20:55

happiestmummy 307,721 being gently eroded by inflation, which has been about 55%, compounded since 2000. A bit fucking stupid really, it's halved in value.

SpaceUnicorn · 01/06/2016 20:56

But how would they link a mumsnet password to someone's online banking?

ceeveebee · 01/06/2016 21:00

hence why I said hope you all have different passwords for your online banking - in jeffgate it was fairly apparent that lots of users had the same password for every site.

GirlOutNumbered · 01/06/2016 21:02

No savings, nothing!
Currently £1800 in mine and around the same in joint. no idea about DH, would guess at about the same as me.

SpaceUnicorn · 01/06/2016 21:03

But even if someone had my password and it was the same for my online banking [which it's not] how would they know which bank I was with, or any of the other security information needed? I've never come across an online banking facility that requires only a user-selected username and password.

alltouchedout · 01/06/2016 21:04

£150 ish.

NerrSnerr · 01/06/2016 21:04

Do any online banks use emails to log in anyway? Mine has a username which is a number, a password and memorable word afterwards, others also use the card reader.

Even if someone is stupid enough to have the same password it would be extremely difficult to hack due to other info needed. If the hackers has those skills they'd be getting into the bank accounts of much wealthier people!

NameChanger22 · 01/06/2016 21:06

8k in the bank. 4k in dd's banks. 20k invested.

SpaceUnicorn · 01/06/2016 21:12

All of the online banking services I've used have required several pieces of information from the following: bank generated user ID, account number, sort code, key-card code, numerical code, answers to person questions.

I don't get how an email address and user-generated password would do it.

People might be subject to sob-story/begging PMs after advertising their wealth on here, but I can't see how a hacker could use your password to clean you out. Happy to be enlightened by people more knowledgable about cyber-crime though.

Namechangeforthebadstuff · 01/06/2016 21:12

£357.
Needs to buy food for me and DS and Gas, electric (metered) and petrol until the end of the month.

CB will come in mid month too, £80.
Ironically it's payday today but by the time all the DDs have gone out its enough to drive anyone to depression!

Comingfoccacia · 01/06/2016 21:13

bumbleclat i have no idea what the future holds. House in negative equity too to add insult to injury Sad

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 01/06/2016 21:20

To get at my savings you'd need to be able to access multiple accounts. They all have different passwords and all require additional security details. Plus there are restrictions on where any money from sale of the investments goes (and anyone tries to amend this, then I'm notified).

So you really aren't going to get very far from just knowing my MN username and total amount of savings.

StrawberrytallCake · 01/06/2016 21:24

I think a hacker could probably put a fake front on the site like last time find out your address from this or other sites, infect your computer with malware if you click to sign in on a fake log in (they look the same), trawl through your old posts for more info on you to work out passwords, you know they sent armed police to Justine and another mnetters house don't you?

You can never be too careful and putting financial information about yourself on an open forum is a really bad idea at best.

MsJamieFraser · 01/06/2016 21:27

It's like the ones flying around on Facebook, stating ASK YOUR KIDS THESE QUESTIONS...

Or the ones asking a series of questions and then getting family and friends to copy and paste them...

It's just stoopid People

NerrSnerr · 01/06/2016 21:32

Strawberry they didn't find Justine's address through hacking though did they? It was through stuff published on the net. I think it was the electoral register. The other person who they sent police to was the one who engaged on Twitter and it was linked to her FB and he got her address the same way.

They didn't get that info from hacking mumsnet.

I've never heard of a phishing operation that worked like that (though of course that's not to say it could never happen). In the recent TalkTalk banking scams they had a lot more information than email address/password, and even then they had to phone people to pose as a TalkTalk employee in order to get enough additional information to pilfer money from credit cards.

Maybe I'm careless or naive, but it doesn't seem like a huge security risk to me.

StrawberrytallCake · 01/06/2016 21:36

Not that time...no. Mumsnet is where it originated from though, it's mnetters that they were targeting.

SusanneLinder · 01/06/2016 21:39

About £150. However my DH has been off ill for ages and has just returned to work so hoping to have savings soon as we earn a fairly decent salary. No debt apart from mortgage though

HappiestMummyAlive · 01/06/2016 21:42

Flashbangandgone

What I have in my bank is peanuts compared to some people I know, I'm not boasting, I am very generous and giving.

And yes if I had £20 in my bank account I would still post it, I do not see myself rich/wealthy money wise, I see myself rich/wealthy in spirit due to the fact I have a loving partner and two children, and that's what I've always wanted.

StrawberrytallCake

Hackers don't usually lurk on parenting sites - Sky accounts is usually their playground.
