AIBU to put 3 year old with 5 year old in child-contract taxi to nursery as one off and...

Was nursery right to report me to Health Visitor for doing this, without informing me? I know it was maybe not ideal but my ex husband declined to take them at last minute as he was annoyed I've claimed for child maintenance, and it's an hour commute to my work via that nursery. I also work in a vital healthcare role and need to be in at 8. So not ideal, but is it a child protection issue?? I'm fuming at them.

I don't know what a child contract taxi is, but I wouldn't have put children of that age in a taxi and would be somewhat concerned in the nursery workers shoes. Did you call them to tell them what was happening and why?

Are nursery staff obliged to report concerns like teachers are?

I'm a nursery manager and I wouldn't be happy if you did that
We record who drops and collects each child
Did you tell the nursery what you were doing?
Can you not see hat the nursery have the best interests of your child as their main concern?

Sounds like they were right to me, did the taxi driver take them in to nursery or just drop them off? Far too young to travel alone and poor taxi driver being out in that situation.

Did you agree it with the nursery first?

Was there a chaperone?

Who took them from the taxi into the building to drop off?
Did you call to arrange the details with nursery?
Who was responsible for the children during the taxi drive/handover and what would have happened if something had gone wrong?
Did your children know the driver or was it a stranger?
Lots more info needed .

Is the driver very well known to you? i.e takes them daily with another adult normally? Did he walk them into nursery?
I need more info before calling yabu

Definitely did the right thing. I am surprised that the driver took them to be honest. Who got them out of the car and took them into nursery. To be honest I think I would have bypassed the health visitor and gone straight to children's services.

Yes they were right to report you. Especially so young being on their own in a taxi.

So does the 5 year old have appointed transport, and you, as a one off put the 3 year old on too?

I am surprised they would take the 3 year old if this was the case as they wouldn't be covered by insurance

It's not great, but it's your ex who is really to blame here (if he had them or was supposed to take them and failed to at the last minute).
What that means in real terms is not clear to me, don't know what your arrangement is, but it seems like another one of those situations where men get to act like idiots and the fallout is all on the mother.

Unless there was a chaperone in the car (not the taxi driver but another adult) then yes this certainly is a child protection issue.

Child protection, health & safety, insurance...all huge issues.

Can't believe they let you do it in the first place tbh. I'd imagine its causing a major headache for the school/nursery and the others involved.

You're lucky the taxi driver didn't drive off into the sunset with them. How do you know he isn't a pedo? Truly bad decision, and yes you should be reported for this.

I don't understand what a child contracted taxi is, but no, I certainly wouldn't of done that, 3 and 5 is far too young, as another poster said who escorted them from the taxi to the nursery building? I'm assuming the taxi had the correct car seats as there was no other adult travelling with them? I can't see why you're fuming, the nursery did the correct thing.

The ex sounds like a twat, but she is still the one that put them in the taxi.

To everyone shouting about taxi drivers not being trusted/driving off into the sunset, I am assuming a "child-contract" taxi is something completely different to your regular run of the mill taxi.
