Was nursery right to report me to Health Visitor for doing this, without informing me? I know it was maybe not ideal but my ex husband declined to take them at last minute as he was annoyed I've claimed for child maintenance, and it's an hour commute to my work via that nursery. I also work in a vital healthcare role and need to be in at 8. So not ideal, but is it a child protection issue?? I'm fuming at them.

Due to my Visual Impairment I used to get taken to school by a similar system but that was after 5, so had no specific travel system - I see what you mean though that the appropriate seating may well have been available.

I have worked in a taxi office,

  1. There is no special insurance
  2. The children are covered under the taxi companies insurance
  3. All drivers and escorts are DBS checked
  4. Any firms locally can bid for this type of work but have to have DBS checks

On occasion as a favour a parent has added another child into the car.

I personally would not do as the OP did but if this was a LEA funded taxi with escort then it would have been just as safe as a childminder dropping a child off, however if no escort then yes it is a silly thing to do.

I agree with pp that this case highlights the need for stronger employment rights.

Do you know how many parents have no choice but to send very young children in taxis funded and facilitated by the LA with no escort? Loads.

Not using the service is very much considered to be an issue many setting consider it to be disruptive and evidemce of an inability to work with services or a control issue, unless it is just your child travelling the likelyhood of another adult not employed by the LA or taxi company (so a parent) being allowed to travel in the taxi is slim to none so you can't get around the lack of an escort that way.

It's normal practise in many areas with children that don't require medical need 1:1 constantly who attend specialist setting or respite or LAC facilited contact arangements or any of the many other things that the LA may fund transportation for.

My own child has been traveling to school since he was 2 in a contract taxi and the only time he has ever had an escort was during a time when another child was also in the taxi who needed constant supervision from someone trained to refit his medical device in the event of an emergency he's now 17 and I currently have a 2yo who also goes in one to attend her specialist nursery.

Or is it only stupid if you don't have a disabled kid?
