Was nursery right to report me to Health Visitor for doing this, without informing me? I know it was maybe not ideal but my ex husband declined to take them at last minute as he was annoyed I've claimed for child maintenance, and it's an hour commute to my work via that nursery. I also work in a vital healthcare role and need to be in at 8. So not ideal, but is it a child protection issue?? I'm fuming at them.

Does your 5 year old have a chaperoned taxi to school? If as a one off you asked the chaperone and driver to take the 3yo to nursery then although I'm surprised they said yes I don't see why they'd report.

If you just stuck a 3yo in a taxi under the supervision of a 5yo and a stranger taxi driver then it's not at all surprising they reported it.

Owllady · 21/04/2016 19:56

If there is an escort that goes in with them then I don't see what the problem is really but my daughter started at a special school when she was three and had to go in on transport with an escort.
Your ex sounds an absolute arse

Round here btw for everyone else, you can hire a taxi pre ordered, insurance is paid and you get a crb checked driver and escort. They do school runs, appointments etc. I'm guessing this is what the OP is on about?

EveryoneElsie · 21/04/2016 19:57

YABVU and the Nursery was correct.

ImNotThatGirl · 21/04/2016 19:57

You were lucky it was the HV and not social services.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 21/04/2016 19:57

I have a five year old and an almost three year old... The idea of putting them in a taxi and watching them be driven off without me or someone very close to them makes me feel a bit sick to be honest...

redhat · 21/04/2016 19:57

I'm gobsmacked.

You have no right at all to be fuming. It's clearly a child protection issue and you not recognising that fact makes it even more so.

AnyFucker · 21/04/2016 19:58

wow

wtf is going on here ?

Skittlesss · 21/04/2016 19:59

Hopefully HV will report to social care.

I honestly think you need some guidance around safeguarding your children, OP. You should have called your workplace and explained the situation, then taken them into school/nursery yourself. I know it is hard, but you have put your children at risk here.

MrsMainwaring · 21/04/2016 20:00

With no escort ?
I'd be reporting you to social services
They could undo their belt , try to open doors , fight
Seriously on what level did you think this was ok ?

NeedACleverNN · 21/04/2016 20:00

Could you come back and give us some more information?

Skittlesss · 21/04/2016 20:01

I have a 3 and a 5 year old and I am pretty sure they would kick off and refuse to go in the taxi alone.

Salfordlass · 21/04/2016 20:01

Is this for real?

Uncoping · 21/04/2016 20:02

Can all the jumped up elite parents settle for a second?!

A child-contract taxi is CLEARLY not a regular taxi, the OP has obviously not phoned up a regular taxi company and had he driver turn up at the house completely unaware he was taking 2 children to nursery.

I personally wouldn't do this but I can see the need for it, I also think the nursery were just doing their job.

Clandestino · 21/04/2016 20:02

So a 3-year old and a 5-year old are sitting in a taxi on their own, being driven to nursery.
Wow. That's just wrong. All wrong.

Afreshstartplease · 21/04/2016 20:02

Has the op vanished now

Elfieselfie · 21/04/2016 20:02

This is a clear safeguarding issue and the nursery should make a referral to Childrens Services.

MsJamieFraser · 21/04/2016 20:03

Are you saying you put a 3 and a 5 year old in a taxi alone? Shock

The taxi driver being a complete stranger, how did your kids get into the school... did you expect the taxi drive to do the handover to the teacher?

If your nursery is anything like mine, there will be a standard clause in your contract somewhere saying that they reserve the right to seek the support of outside agencies without obtaining your consent if they think your child may be at risk. So YABU there.

Can you tell us more about the taxi? Was there a chaperone? How far was the journey? Did your DCs know the taxi driver? Was nursery briefed in advance? Who was responsible for actually taking them into nursery?

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 21/04/2016 20:04

I feel like the OP is probably done now....

LittleNelle · 21/04/2016 20:04

Nursery definitely should have informed you before they referred to anyone, that was poor practice.

However, on the face of it it does sound like a concern.

MatthewWrightResearch · 21/04/2016 20:04

I don't think I'd even send my 4yr old in a taxi alone with his 12yr old brother and I'm usually a pretty relaxed parent. A 3 and 5 yr old Shock wow!

Err, no it isn't. It's standard practice to not inform parents beforehand if you are reporting to SS or other agencies.

GabiSolis · 21/04/2016 20:06

I don't know what a child-contract taxi is but unless the taxi driver is a very close friend or relative then YABVU. And I absolutely agree with the decision to report you.
