... to have not named my baby yet? (6 weeks, tomorrow)

Hi there - DS will be 6 weeks, tomorrow Sad I have a handful of names I love, but it's becoming impossible. I have tried phoning the registration office; they will not allow me to move my appointment (it's tomorrow)...

Has anyone else been in this situation? Family, and friends, think I'm being unfair to DS...

What's the problem with choosing a name?

You say it's becoming impossible....

We stuck half a dozen names in a plastic cup in the hospital and drew one out.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 30/03/2016 15:43

So what's the shortlist?

splendide · 30/03/2016 15:44

Call him Cosmo.

There, done!

NeedsAsockamnesty · 30/03/2016 15:44

You must have some idea

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 30/03/2016 15:45

Why do you think you're having so much trouble deciding? Could you give your DS a few middle names and just pick the most practical first name?

VolvicTouchofFruit · 30/03/2016 15:46

I like them all... I think I'll go with one, an hour later, I want to go with something else!

The shortlist: Aidan, Charlie, Ciaran/Kieran, Elliot/Elliott, Louis/Louie, Matthew, Noah, Oliver, and Tommy (Thomas on the BC)...

Shortlist?

liz70 · 30/03/2016 15:47

Give him all of them. Dead posh like.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 30/03/2016 15:47

Noah

Pufflehuff · 30/03/2016 15:47

This baffles me. You've had 9 months to consider it. It's not like it's come as a surprise.

If the problem is the partner 'hates all my suggestions', then just name the child without their input. That usually speeds things along.

iMatter · 30/03/2016 15:47

Oliver.

There. Easy. Smile

BastardGoDarkly · 30/03/2016 15:47

Just decide between you what to call him?! Do you disagree? Confused

VolvicTouchofFruit · 30/03/2016 15:48

His middle name will be Charles, but if we were to fully decide on Charlie, it would be James... His first name can't be James - I prefer the shortlist.

OP posts:
Pufflehuff · 30/03/2016 15:48

I'll help ;)

Elliot or Oliver. The rest are kinda boring or a bit middle-aged.

MardyBra · 30/03/2016 15:49

YABU for not putting this in Baby Names, but YANBU for leaving it until six weeks. I did the same.

What are you calling him at the moment?

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 30/03/2016 15:49

imatter I disagree it should be Thomas or Matthew Grin

VolvicTouchofFruit · 30/03/2016 15:49

We cannot decide which one... I know we have had 9 months; that was spent making the shortlist...

OP posts:
Twitterqueen · 30/03/2016 15:50

Just make a decision! you've had months and months plus 6 weeks to sort this out - how will delaying the appointment (even if you could) help?!

I don't understand how you can go 6 weeks without giving him a name... what do you call him for goodness sake? We agreed our names before birth so from the moment they appeared they were exactly who they were meant to be....

VolvicTouchofFruit · 30/03/2016 15:50

I have it in Baby Names... This wasn't really a thread for picking the name (but I'm not complaining)... I was asking about the waiting time! Etc. Confused

OP posts:
CaptainMarvelDanvers · 30/03/2016 15:50

What's name does your DP like?

londonrach · 30/03/2016 15:51

Love thomas. Great for a baby, child or man. Tom is lovely too. Ive only know nice thomas, toms! There you are sorted! Congratulations op on the birth of little thomas x

wonderingsoul · 30/03/2016 15:51

Go with noah. It's lovely, not overly popular, will fit as an adult can't be shortened, but I am biased. My 10 year old is called noah and it still is my favourite boys name ever.

Made ds2 hard to name he's a finley. He was going to be oliver or a Joshua.

VolvicTouchofFruit · 30/03/2016 15:51

We just call him "little man"... Hmm

Deciding a name is very hard, especially as we are only ever having 1...

OP posts:
RDWRER · 30/03/2016 15:51

Maybe breaking the list down a bit may help: Aidan or Charlie? Kieran or Elliott? etc. Then keep doing that until you have a finalist. I think choosing from a long list of names can be a bit overwhelming.

BettyBi0 · 30/03/2016 15:52

I feel your pain! DD was nameless right up until the deadline. As the days passed the decision just felt harder and harder. Not helped by sleep deprivation and hormonal changes.

What is your shortlist? Could you do a MN thread in the baby names section or maybe a quick survey monkey poll among friends?
