... to have not named my baby yet? (6 weeks, tomorrow)

VolvicTouchofFruit · 30/03/2016 15:40

Hi there - DS will be 6 weeks, tomorrow Sad I have a handful of names I love, but it's becoming impossible. I have tried phoning the registration office; they will not allow me to move my appointment (it's tomorrow)...

Has anyone else been in this situation? Family, and friends, think I'm being unfair to DS...

Love your chosen name! I like both spellings, so I see your struggle!

RomComPhooey · 30/03/2016 22:14

Elliott suits him, though I thought Elliott Matthew was the best of your 3 Elliot combos. All good names...

LilyLilyLilyOiOiOi · 30/03/2016 22:14

Choose Elliott! Our Elliott is Elliott Thomas. Your son is gorgeous, congrats!

BillBrysonsBeard · 30/03/2016 22:24

Lovely name OP and I love his potential nickname of "Els" Smile So sorry for your previous losses but happy you now have your little baby. He will amaze you every day.

Ludwsys · 30/03/2016 22:31

Go with Matthew, you won't regret it.

BeaLola · 30/03/2016 23:21

He is very beautiful and you have chosen a lovely name. Have been through IVF etc and it is a such an emotional/gruelling journey. Your little one is just gorgeous and6 weeks flies by. Flowers

fwiw whilst you have 42 days to register if you didn't the next step is that the registration authority have to send a not very nice letter which they really don't want to have to send out that states you legal obligation to register, lots of other legal bits and that you must attend at X office which is open at these hours by y date to register it or report made to general register office re failure to register - can't recall all the facts that are in it.

Bunbaker · 31/03/2016 10:04

Today's the day that you have to register your baby by, so good luck.

Legal details here.

You can't claim child benefit until you have a birth certificate

DownUnderBound · 31/03/2016 10:11

Just call him Noah and have done with it

CountessOfStrathearn · 31/03/2016 10:16

Why don't people read through the thread, or the OP's posts at the very least?!

DisappointedOne · 31/03/2016 10:20

Go with noah. It's lovely, not overly popular, will fit as an adult can't be shortened

Oh yes it can! Friend's Noah gets shortened to "No" here in Wales by nursery workers, neighbours......

IamaBluebird · 31/03/2016 10:39

Lovely name for your adorable little boy. Congratulations.

Kit30 · 31/03/2016 13:27

Same problem - ended up with 3 christian names; first, traditional and suits whatever he'll do; second, left field choice (Old English) and never come across another; third, family (sur) name in memory of grandparents who only had daughters so the name would have been lost.

tallbirduk · 31/03/2016 13:50

We did exactly this. With #1 son we had a shortlist, but when he arrived none of the names suited him so it took us 4 weeks of printing lists of names, crossing them off, starting again before a friend randomly suggested Zachary, and that was that.

With #2 son we didn't even bother with a list before he was born - having wasted time doing that first time around - and it took us 6 weeks to name him. We were still debating middle names as we walked to register him!! We ended up with Elliot Samuel.

It's fine. They have to wear that name forever - it feels like a HUGE responsibility to get it right.

What did you go for?

ApocalypseSlough · 31/03/2016 13:59

He's gorgeous!

wonderingsoul · 31/03/2016 14:22

Disappointed that would give the rage. Not because I dislike nn ds2 gets called fin or finners 90 percent of the time.
But no is is not a nn... I couldn't manage what being called no could do to a child's self esteem.. but maybe I'm over thinking it.

My noah I just rhyme he's name... noah coboa...well I used to...at 10.. he's not that keen on it any more lol.

CatalinaPB · 31/03/2016 14:56

By law you have to register baby within 6 weeks otherwise you'll be liable for a £1000 fine (last time I checked). You'll just have to pick a couple, I expect you're panicking because you've had six weeks and now have to decide at the last minute and it has blown out of all proportion. It really isn't that difficult.

NameChange30 · 31/03/2016 14:59

If you can't be bothered to RTFT, at least read the OP's posts.

Spandexpants007 · 31/03/2016 15:06

Op if unhappy you have up to a year to change the name on the birth certificate.

BitchyComment · 31/03/2016 15:13

What a cutie pie Star. I love the name too.

Congrats x a million.

TheCricketWidow · 31/03/2016 15:47

Gorgeous baby, gorgeous name. We would have had elliot for a boy, we got an ella instead! Enjoy him, he'll grow ever so quickly.

Polska03 · 31/03/2016 21:12

He is a gorgeous little man! Love the name too, when I looked at his picture I immediately thought he looks like an Elliot. Congratulations.
My husband and I did it with him picking the girls name and I picked the boys name. Then just had to see what baby was when I had it. It was a little boy 😊

MissWimpyDimple · 31/03/2016 23:32

Lovely name. Lovely boy. Smile

IdentityRequest1 · 31/03/2016 23:56

Ah, what a cutie! I thought Elliott as soon as I saw the pic. Perfect. Good choice! Hope all went well registering the name, congrats.

Ohfourfoxache · 01/04/2016 00:54

Oh Volvic he's utterly beautiful. He looks so like an Elliot, smiling, happy and mischevious with a kind heart (that what I always think when I hear the name Blush - it was on our shortlist).

Welcome to the world, little Elliot Charles xx

Abs171 · 01/04/2016 01:30

Volvic - first of all I must say he is gorgeous and Elliot and Charles are lovely names!
My partner and I had real trouble deciding too. Nothing we tried out on our DS (born last Sept) seemed quite right. We had middle names sorted but not his first.
You do need to register by six weeks but you do not have to pick a name at that point if you are still unsure. You have a whole year to make that decision.
We officially registered him with his first name (which we are very happy with) in January.
You will need to speak to someone at the child benefit office once you have sent in your form and birth certificate tomorrow. I found them very helpful. Smile
