Disability cuts

Springsummer123 · 12/03/2016 08:35

Name changed as obviously sensitive subject and don't want to put myself .i possibly don't know enough on this so am interested in other views . I may have only seen a small percentage - I'm insure ?
I have 2 sisters . One has had a stroke .which had devestated the family . She is quite well off yet has been upset she will loose a benifit that I believe is for her husband being her carer . Ok discussion to try to ease her fears it's very clear they don't need it . They can afford all care , holidays good standard of living on her payout . Number of property's all fully owned out right . Yet she thinks she should get it as some sort of compensation for the stroke .i can see why she would be angry with life but she doesn't need the money ? Surely it's right to be cut ?
My second sister works with adults with autism . She was saying they are struggling to spend the last part of their money entitlement before the next claim . I know they have holidays etc and their is still money over ( my sister accompanied many times )
So I'm wondering in some cases should the disability benifits be cut ?

I trust MNHQ to be dealing with the OP but I really can't understand why they want to take this thread down.

MrsVamos · 12/03/2016 10:25

In other news, someone who works at the DWP did say yesterday that the 'fitness to work' tests should be scrapped.

Funny how that's been buried and this disgusting govt just press on with cuts to disability benefits regardless.

I'm shocked and saddened at what I am seeing happening in the UK in 2016.

MrsVamos · 12/03/2016 10:26

Well perhaps she should have the decency to come back to the thread in her usual nn, and apologise.

I wont hold my breath.

ilovesooty · 12/03/2016 10:27

So she apologised to MNHQ but wouldn't apologise on her own thread? I don't see why MNHQ are indulging cowardice.

ilovesooty · 12/03/2016 10:28

I thought threads were only deleted at the OP's request to protect privacy. If the OP hasn't requested deletion I see even less reason to take it down.

Mellowautumn · 12/03/2016 10:30

Why are you deleating it ???

MinnieTeMinx · 12/03/2016 10:30

Biscuit Now say the same thing about Child Benefit.

MrsVamos · 12/03/2016 10:31

She requested it be deleted because she posted, then read the news about the cuts, sooty.

Says so up there. ^

Lesson for all. Read the news prior to spouting bollocks.

InvictusVersinium · 12/03/2016 10:33

Or how about not taking ignorant cheap shots at the most vulnerable in our society?

Samcro · 12/03/2016 10:33

i think the thread should stand. the pure ignorance that is shown on here by the op and the other thread that is running, needs to be addressed.
disabled people are being targeted not only by the cuts, but by the GF who start threads like this.
they should not be allowed to hide behind a NC

ilovesooty · 12/03/2016 10:34

She knew about the cuts before posting the OP. That much is obvious.

MrsVamos · 12/03/2016 10:36

Completely agree, Samcro and sooty.

Libitina · 12/03/2016 10:36

I know someone who has cerebral palsy. She is fine mentally, but struggles physically and uses a walker and a wheelchair. She is a teenager and when she learns to drive she will need an adapted car.
They have just stopped her DLA (or whatever its called). Do they think she's going to 'grow out of it' or something?? Angry

MrsVamos · 12/03/2016 10:39

I'm not sure what sickens me more.

Goady name changing fuckers or people who might believe some of the bullshit and feel envious ? of how much someone with a disability might get in order to try to make their life a bit better/easier/less stressful....

I could cry.

DawnMumsnet · 12/03/2016 10:40

@PageStillNotFound404

Why do you think it's best, Dawn? Why do you think it's better to pretend these views don't exist? Not being goady, genuinely interested in your thought process at MNHQ.

We're not in any way pretending these views don't exist, but when a thread is mostly filled with ODFODs and biscuits and has been reported for being inflammatory, we'd rather remove it and let this issue be discussed on other threads.

ilovesooty · 12/03/2016 10:42

Exactly why I didn't report it. I want ignorance like this to stand so people know it's there.

PageStillNotFound404 · 12/03/2016 10:43

Thank you for explaining, Dawn. I don't necessarily agree - I think it's important to see the strength of feeling and it gives hope to those in need of society's protections to see that people are prepared to shout down the GFs - but I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

Samcro · 12/03/2016 10:43

but another thread will be a TAAT and deleted. so that is just shutting down debate.
sadly people do think like the op, there is one goading on the other thread.

ilovesooty · 12/03/2016 10:44

Yes thanks for responding Dawn. I shall nonetheless be very disappointed if it's deleted.

MrsVamos · 12/03/2016 10:46

Thanks Dawn but the thread should remain so that these disgusting views can be challenged.

Mellowautumn · 12/03/2016 10:50

This is AIBU - so it's a bit heated - so what - people need to see how idiots think and idiots need to know what twats that are.

ilovesooty · 12/03/2016 10:52

I agree MrsVamos

I think deleting it also encourages goady fuckery and sets a dangerous precedent.

MrsVamos · 12/03/2016 10:54

Yup, sooty.

PageStillNotFound404 · 12/03/2016 11:03

Agreed, sooty.

DawnMumsnet · 12/03/2016 11:08

@ilovesooty

I agree MrsVamos

I think deleting it also encourages goady fuckery and sets a dangerous precedent.

Our difficulty here is, depressing as it seems, we're not certain that this was intentional goady fuckery. The OP got in touch soon after posting it to say no malice was intended and to ask if we could take the thread down - in our experience, that's not the usual form for a gf. As we said, she has no form for starting dodgy threads and we thought then (based on all the ODFODs and the biscuits and the subsequent angry reports about it) that it was best to get rid.

Clearly with hindsight it would have been easiest all round if we'd just posted a 'deleted for being inflammatory' message and been done with it.

We still feel the thread should be taken down, but we're prepared to go with the majority view here if the consensus is that it should stay.
