Disability cuts

Name changed as obviously sensitive subject and don't want to put myself .i possibly don't know enough on this so am interested in other views . I may have only seen a small percentage - I'm insure ?
I have 2 sisters . One has had a stroke .which had devestated the family . She is quite well off yet has been upset she will loose a benifit that I believe is for her husband being her carer . Ok discussion to try to ease her fears it's very clear they don't need it . They can afford all care , holidays good standard of living on her payout . Number of property's all fully owned out right . Yet she thinks she should get it as some sort of compensation for the stroke .i can see why she would be angry with life but she doesn't need the money ? Surely it's right to be cut ?
My second sister works with adults with autism . She was saying they are struggling to spend the last part of their money entitlement before the next claim . I know they have holidays etc and their is still money over ( my sister accompanied many times )
So I'm wondering in some cases should the disability benifits be cut ?

resignation of Chair of Conservative disability group

Samcro · 16/03/2016 23:10

I have no idea what has happened re the cuts for disabled. cos G.O did what i thought he would do and made a change that everyone is talking about(schools) so no one is talking about what is happening with the cuts that affect disabled people.

ChildlessAndOK · 16/03/2016 23:48

I receive higher rather PIP. Just awarded from DLA change.
Can anyone explain how these cuts could affect me?
I would be unable to work without the PIP assistance and Access To Work!! Like who would employ me?!
My company know me, my capabilities etc. They understand and have been great.
To go for new job.... Jeez. The THOUGHT of having to try scares me enough to retreat and lock the world right back out. I'd probably be dead within 6 months. And most certainly bankrupt.
Unless ur are disabled in any way, be in chronic pain, MH etc - there's no way anyone could understand. No way.
Even those that TRY to empathise ... Just couldn't, not really.
A colleague had to attend my assessment with me and she was appalled at how I 'live'. I try very hard to not allow people to see everything because i don't need pity- I need to remain a contributing part of society.
Those of you with children with physical and mental problems.... Man oh man I applaud you. ThanksThanksThanks
And I would exchange ALL financial assistance to be able to walk unaided and without pain. To drink a tea without risk of burns. To dance!! And to not be a 'high functioning drug addict' that needs sleep to the detriment of most relationships.
Good luck all xxx

I am trying to find out more. This may affect a good friend of mine who has multiple health issues. She is in the Work Rekated Activity Group but isn't expected to look for work as yet due to a child Nader 5. However she absolutely cannot work...she has a Carer 40 hrs a week.

I have spent half the morning with her and she is in a terrible state. I have to,d her that even if she is affected it won't be all at once or immediately but she is in a panic.

Still...at least there have been tax breaks for those earning over £45k eh?

Please can anyone who voted Tory come and justify this to me...go on...I bloody dare you. tell me how it is okay to find that tax break by taking money from those who are disabled.

BeckerLleytonNever · 17/03/2016 14:24

My ex has a mobility car due to limited mobility from having osteosarcoma as a teenager. He had metal work and can't walk far or get public transport. He works full time and will contribute more in taxes than what he recieves. This thread is been made to stir up trouble.

Dawndonnaagain · 17/03/2016 15:00

Fuzz we know that, but many people asked for it to stand so that those of us experiencing it could encourage others to understand what's happening to us.

JoffreyBaratheon · 18/03/2016 18:28

Fuzz that's the point - many people on DLA/PIP can only work because they have the extra help with mobility... Take that away and they won't be tax-payers.

Under PIP, there's no guarantee anyone gets anything. I saw the figure the other day, and something like half the people who were getting High rate mobility on DLA, who have been assessed for PIP so far, have lost their motability car.

I read on another forum a (severely disabled) woman saying the day she took her car back - absolutely heartbroken as it will now mean she is housebound - the man at the dealership said they had had 20 other car returned that day.

This is why these threads are important. Those people who have been lucky in the PIP lottery - well done. But most people are finding this stressful, terrifying and, around half of them, are losing the car they relied on.

Breaking news on the BBC that planned cuts to disability benefits will be "kicked into the long grass".

starry0ne · 18/03/2016 20:25

Planned changes to disability benefits will be "kicked into the long grass", according to a government source.
Chancellor George Osborne faced criticism over the cuts outlined in the Budget, which were likely to affect some 640,000 people.
The changes had been expected to shave £1.3bn a year off the Personal Independence Payments (PIP) bill.
"We need to take time and get reforms right and that will mean looking again at these proposals," the source said.

This is on BBC news...Lets hope so

Dawndonnaagain · 18/03/2016 20:30

I do hope so. However, I have a horrible feeling they'll creep in via the back door as with the tax credit cuts.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 18/03/2016 21:03

Sad Dawn I think youre right.

ghostyslovesheep · 18/03/2016 21:08

IDS has gone!

SiencynArsecandle · 18/03/2016 21:16

IDS has gone

Thank god for that. Pity he wont now be homeless and penniless like he has left so many, but hey, its a start. He wasnt there at the budget on Wednesday, I thought that was odd.

JoffreyBaratheon · 18/03/2016 21:26

Well that's IDS kicked himself into the long grass. "A big boy did it and ran away!" Now let's hope the disability cuts follow. hi into the long grass.

Gideon's going to be left looking like Caligula, stumbling out of the locked ante-room, alone, with blood round his mouth...

Dawndonnaagain · 18/03/2016 21:39

I just did a little dance! Grin

GooseberryRoolz · 18/03/2016 21:44

He's dragged them into the long grass. On purpose.

Did you see the resignation letter?

PageStillNotFound404 · 18/03/2016 22:02

I know it's petty. I know this isn't an end to austerity and persecuting the disabled and vulnerable. I know there's no guarantee that who we'll get next will be any better.

But right now, at this precise moment, I am celebrating like there is no fucking tomorrow. Wine

JoffreyBaratheon · 18/03/2016 22:07

Apparently, they're saying on the news, Osborne lied to IDS - getting him to agree to the disability cuts without telling him they were doing tax cuts for their pals in the same budget.

I just hope Osborne's head is on the block, now.

GooseberryRoolz · 18/03/2016 22:20

No, I think it will take a lot more than this to damage George O. His brand of economic brutality and little rewards to the well-off has plenty of fans.

Flashbangandgone · 18/03/2016 22:20

Irrespective of your position, lumping cuts to disabilities together with tax cuts for higher rate taxpayers is the worst piece political stupidity and incompetence i can think of. Osborne really should resign too.

GooseberryRoolz · 18/03/2016 22:20

But I'll join in with the Wine anyway Smile
