Disability cuts

Name changed as obviously sensitive subject and don't want to put myself .i possibly don't know enough on this so am interested in other views . I may have only seen a small percentage - I'm insure ?
I have 2 sisters . One has had a stroke .which had devestated the family . She is quite well off yet has been upset she will loose a benifit that I believe is for her husband being her carer . Ok discussion to try to ease her fears it's very clear they don't need it . They can afford all care , holidays good standard of living on her payout . Number of property's all fully owned out right . Yet she thinks she should get it as some sort of compensation for the stroke .i can see why she would be angry with life but she doesn't need the money ? Surely it's right to be cut ?
My second sister works with adults with autism . She was saying they are struggling to spend the last part of their money entitlement before the next claim . I know they have holidays etc and their is still money over ( my sister accompanied many times )
So I'm wondering in some cases should the disability benifits be cut ?

We need to keep up the publicity online and everywhere about what Cameron and his pals have done to ordinary, decent, hardworking people - expose the shit out of the tory scumbags. Hopefully next time people can exercise their vote they will be fully aware of what has happened to disabled people and people on low incomes. Before the last election they were very evasive about their planned cuts. Now the reality is out there and being lived by millions of us. Let's see the back of these evil bastards once and for all.

Constantly exposing what they have done to the disabled and constantly confronting them about it, is the best way to get rid of them, I think, as most people are decent and wouldn't wish this on anyone.

SilverDragonfly1 · 12/03/2016 11:56

Mrs V It doesn't help that when people see 'walking aids' they think 'old people' and more pertinently 'old people who have huge pensions already so who cares if they get a bit of extra money taken off them?'

MrsVamos · 12/03/2016 11:56

Fanjo.

I know. Sad

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/03/2016 11:58

Well that's unusual then sooty.

Viviennemary · 12/03/2016 11:59

I agree that debate shouldn't be stopped because it's uncomfortable. I don't even know how the cuts will affect individuals. If the cuts are for everyone regardless of the seriousness of a person's disability and the amount of care they need and if it will depend on income or what. I saw on the news text this morning that the cuts are to be phased in during the period till 2020. But that doesn't tell you much at all.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/03/2016 11:59

Isn't uncomfortable for you though I'm sure?

SilverDragonfly1 · 12/03/2016 12:00

Fanjo I often don't bother challenging these threads because I know they will be deleted for goadiness. No point putting energy and emotion into a post- which I do on this subject because it is an integral part of my life and has had huge impacts on my mental and physical health, even though I'm not actually the disabled party- when it will just vanish because some people think sad and nasty things should be censored. I doubt I'm the only one.

MrsVamos · 12/03/2016 12:01

SilverDragonfly1

I know. And the money people get on disability....raking it in. Hmm

If it actually made a real difference, and made life a bit better, and meant not worrying about paying all the bills...

Its become awful. If I don't see it or acknowledge it, because its not happening to ME its not happening or worth getting upset about. Sad

Viviennemary · 12/03/2016 12:01

Just to add all this waffle about Tory Scumbags doesn't really help anybody. It won't get people on board. I didn't vote Tory in the last election.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/03/2016 12:02

Am not going to bother challenging them much in future either tbh.

Never achieve anything except me getting a flaming while most folk ignore the thread. Life's too short.

MrsVamos · 12/03/2016 12:04

I don't challenge threads much anymore because I don't have the energy, time or inclination.

You have to accept that people do think like this and it doesn't matter what you say, because the govt think it too. And they are the ones with all the power to change anything.

It sometimes feels like resistance is futile.

I'm so tired....

SilverDragonfly1 · 12/03/2016 12:05

Fanjo Flowers It's sometimes too hard to keep challenging huge floods of people while holding your own life together. I often have to take a break from it, even while I despise myself for not fighting.

elementofsurprise · 12/03/2016 12:05

*To add to my comment - when I first became ill I was promised psychotherapy, but since then everything's been cut.

SilverDragonfly1 · 12/03/2016 12:06

Flowers For Mrs V too. I feel you.

(Not in an inappropriate way).

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/03/2016 12:07

It is, silver Thanks

MrsVamos · 12/03/2016 12:10

Thanks For you too, SilverDragonfly1.

feellikeahugefailure · 12/03/2016 12:11

What can we actually do to stop this change coming in?

No way should middle tax earners get a tax break at the expense of the disabled. I speak as someone who's earnt over the tax threshold every year of my life and am not disabled.

feellikeahugefailure · 12/03/2016 12:13

Petrie on LBC is discussing this now...not pleasant listening :(

MrsVamos · 12/03/2016 12:23

feel

Absolutely fuck all.

Its the budget in a week when this is expected to be brought in.

Some people in govt and in society seriously believe that if only people would help themselves, all ails would be cured.

ESA WRAG (work RELATED activity group)...Not fit for work, able to work, but people possibly able to carry out work related activities are having cuts applied to incentivise them to get better, and miraculously find a job and employer that will accomodate them and their needs.

Because we all agree they are paid too much for having a disability, yes ?

Now to the PIP cuts. Changes to how disability is defined, how it affects you, the care you may require. Points awarded reduced by half (possibly) because people who apply for PIP get far too much for having a disability, yes ?

No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.

MrsVamos · 12/03/2016 12:25

I'm not having a go, btw, feel.

Just realised my post might come across snippy at you.

Its no way intended to be.

Sallystyle · 12/03/2016 12:31

My second sister works with adults with autism . She was saying they are struggling to spend the last part of their money entitlement before the next claim . I know they have holidays etc and their is still money over

I can say this has a lot of truth in it. I know this for a fact as I worked in a supported home for adults with DS and we had to go out for meals and extra holidays to spend the money or we ran the risk of losing the funding. I also have a relative who works with adults with LD and they have to do the same and they struggle to spend the money.

I don't agree with cutting disability benefits at all though. My dh was put on lifetime DLA and will soon have to move over to PIP and I have a child on DLA. The cuts worry me and affect me so I'm not a goady fucker but the OP is correct in the part I bolded in some cases.

The disability cuts we are seeing are disgusting and I don't agree with them, but many carers who work in supported living environments are struggling to spend the money while so many people here are struggling to get enough in the first place. Cutting money isn't the answer though.

I hate this fucking government and I often wonder if the people who voted for the Tories are still happy with their decision to do so.

SilverDragonfly1 · 12/03/2016 12:37

How does that work U2 (genuine question)? Is the facility given a certain amount of money per client, or is this the client's own spending money (like in a care home)? Why would the home or client not get money just because they hadn't spent all of the previous allotment?

SilverDragonfly1 · 12/03/2016 12:41

Sounds like the issue there is a governmental budgeting one (complete with red tape, ringfencing etc) rather than a 'disabled people get too much money' problem. While councils and organisations are incentivised not to save any money for future needs, these and many other problems (housing, social care, roads) will continue to happen.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 12/03/2016 12:44

Personal allowance is a sum of money allocated to people who live in residential care and is for them to spend on personal needs eg toiletries , trips out, items for their room etc etc
Dwp rules forbid more than a certain amount being accrued
This personal allowance is I believe around £23 per week
To be fair this is only for people living full time in residential care
