AIBU - pants at night

So reading the bedding thread there seems to be the suggestion that some people don't wear pants at night. Shock This is seriously a pearl clutching moment for me.

So AIBU to ask - doesn't everybody wear pants at night, whether or not they sleep otherwise naked or wear PJ's? And wouldn't your sheets or PJ's need more frequent washing if you don't wear pants at night?

OP posts:

Baggy PJ's and no knickers for me too, unless I'm on my period.

Knickers under PJ's would feel too restrictive, I like to be a bit free and easy in bed Grin

leedy · 10/03/2016 19:32

Sleep in the entirely pantsless nuddy here.

exudes horrifically

roundaboutthetown · 10/03/2016 19:33

Yuk - do some people push their knickers/pyjamas/nightie up their arse to scratch, then? No wonder some folk like to change their pyjamas on a regular basis! Shock
Personally, except during my period, I find lying horizontal is enough to ensure I don't leave a trail of slime in my wake overnight! No knickers here, therefore - I don't like to feel too enclosed! Maybe that's why I don't get itchy...

And if your pyjamas are only comfortable with pants on, maybe your pyjamas are too small/pointlessly designed to look good on the school run rather than being much good for sleeping in. Wink

Have you got your heating turned up really high, I have mine at 19 to keep costs down, I'd be too cold.

roundaboutthetown · 10/03/2016 19:36

I remember the Big Bang Theory episode when Howard sat naked on Sheldon's spot on the couch. Grin

leedy · 10/03/2016 19:37

I don't have the heating on at all at night! I'm quite warm-blooded though, as is DP so it's like sleeping with a human hot water bottle. (still don't wear anything in bed even when he's away unless it's absolutely freezing, though)

CocktailQueen · 10/03/2016 19:39

I hate wearing pants at night. Too restrictive and sweaty. Your skin needs to breathe!

Pants and PJs trousers ? What fresh hell is that?

I get chilly if I sleep naked!

VulcanWoman · 10/03/2016 19:43

Then Sheldon got revenge by sitting naked in Howard's car, grinding it in Grin

I always love these threads, such a laugh, oh and btw, I don't believe people take a naked trip to the bathroom to wipe their naked itchy ass, sorry.

Peyia · 10/03/2016 19:43

It's the poo crumbs, isn't it? Shock

Savagebeauty · 10/03/2016 19:44

No heating after ten o clock here..I wear cotton PJs . No knickers.

paxillin · 10/03/2016 19:44

What's with all the laundry and hygiene threads in the last couple of days? I think we have established that some mnetters wash every item of clothing in the house daily and others have an annual wash.

I do understand the need for pants at night, not so much for hygiene, just a habit.

Superwitchy · 10/03/2016 19:47

Duchess your linguistic talent made me chuckle, brilliant.

MrsKoala · 10/03/2016 19:48

I sleep in pants under my pyjamas. The bottoms are loose and i wriggle a lot so the seams seem to get bunched up and pulled tight like cheese wire. Also not sure about all you other ladies but i must be extra, um, leaky (not wee btw). The crotch of my pyjama bottoms would be wet and uncomfortable and marked white and er 'musky' if i went knickerless. They would need washing every day and i just don't have the time for more laundry.

Also we have dark coloured sheets so if i slept naked, when i sat up in the morning i would mark the bed - i would have to get out of bed weirdly sideway and not have my 2 minutes of sitting, staring into space looking dazed and confused on the edge of the bed till i properly woke up and realised the horror that it was actually morning and that few hours of broken sleep was it for another 16 hours. We co sleep and are up multiple times in the night so i need to be warm and able to run down to the kitchen at a seconds screaming.

(this has all happened since having dc btw. Before then i happily slept naked)

PitilessYank · 10/03/2016 19:49

A+ to Duchess for introducing me to the word "fundament!"

I wear underpants to bed maybe 50% of the time. I try to avoid them if I am expecting a bit of action, for easier spousal access to my nethers.

janethegirl2 · 10/03/2016 19:49

Surely if you sleep naked, that means no knickers. I always sleep naked and I wash the bedding weekly although I've never noticed a slime trail or poo crumbs Hmm

tangerino · 10/03/2016 19:51

Heavens, I had no idea people wore pants in bed. Sounds like a bad case of thrush waiting to happen.

How does it work if you have sex? Do you get into bed in your pants, take them off when you're shagging then get up and put them on again? Or another pair? I couldn't cope with the logistics.

YoJesse · 10/03/2016 19:52

Are people that consistent with what they wear at night. It always changes for me. Some nights , just knickers, some nights full pjs, some nights nothing and some nights what I was wearing in the day. Scuzzy I know!!!

VulcanWoman · 10/03/2016 19:54

Yes, pants back on after sex.

ForalltheSaints · 10/03/2016 19:55

Thank you to the Duchess on the first page of this thread for such a lovely way with words.

roundaboutthetown · 10/03/2016 19:56

janethegirl2 - that would be because you haven't checked with a microscope. Or because the poo crumbs are caught behind your fingernails from your night time scratch-fest!

ridemesideways · 10/03/2016 19:58

I have to. It's cleaner (for me). It'd go everywhere if I didn't. Yuk!

Clawdy · 10/03/2016 19:58

Nightie, no knickers. Can't bear anything at all round my waist while sleeping.

Brummiegirl15 · 10/03/2016 19:59

Completely starkers unless on period.

But as I have an 11 week old who often insists on sleeping on my chest rather than in her Moses basket I have been throwing a loose t-shirt on as I'm terrified about cosleeping so need to make sure duvet is down round my hips and its ruddy freezing wearing nothing
