to be having a bit of a sense of humour failure over this?

Sorry, this might be a bit long winded

I like 'creative' stuff - sewing, drawing, photography, etc - general art-ery fart-ery. The attic of our house had been converted to a huge room when we moved here so I use it as a kind of studio.

A few weeks ago I had a big birthday and DH arranged a surprise birthday party. I had been really clear that I absolutely did not want a party, I'm quite introverted and just didn't want a big hoo-ha.

He arranged one anyway. I was a bit miffed but grinned and bared it, and actually had an OK night.

In the weeks since, I've discovered that some of our friends had been up in my studio and played some oh so hilarious practical jokes. There was absolutely no need for them to go up there, there's no toilet or anything up there and the door at the bottom of the stairs was shut.

Nothing has been broken or damaged, but silly stuff like a cock and balls drawn onto every page of a sketch book, a huge quilt I've been making and had pinned out ready to be quilted has had all the pins removed, all my drawers and storage had been rearranged.

A couple of years ago I saved up and bought myself a DSLR camera. It wasn't cheap so I'm a bit precious about it. Yesterday we went out for a day out so thought I'd take my camera. Turned it on to find about a million photos of bare arses and I'm not very happy about it

It just feels a bit disrespectful, they shouldn't have been upstairs in the first place and I don't like that they've been messing with my stuff. The more time goes on and the more of this shit I find, the less impressed I am. The whole camera thing is the final straw and I'm having a bit of a sense of humour failure

That is unbelievably disrespectful and I would be livid- there's no humour in it at all

HelpfulChap · 31/01/2016 11:13

I agree with you.

I would have the raging hump.

Never been a fan of practical jokes.

This would piss me off big time - this is malicious shit not a joke.

FranHastings · 31/01/2016 11:15

I would be furious too. That's so disrespectful and not even slightly funny. Taking all your pins out! Defacing your sketch book! How old are your 'friends'? 11?!

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 31/01/2016 11:15

Not unreasonable, your friends sound very immature Hmm I would be annoyed too.

I am also not a fan of practical jokes, IMO they are rarely funny and can often be quite cruel.

fastdaytears · 31/01/2016 11:15

How old are your friends? That isn't funny at all.

I'm not sure what there is to be gained by confronting them though, I probably just wouldn't have them round again.

gamerchick · 31/01/2016 11:16

That is disrespectful and I wouldn't see them as friends after that but I have zero sense of humor for practical jokes.

I couldn't let it lie either.

TweeterandtheMonkeyman · 31/01/2016 11:16

Yanbu - your private space & precious possessions have been violated Shock Some friends ..Hmm

chemenger · 31/01/2016 11:16

No, jokes are funny, what was meant to be funny in these acts - this was malicious and I would be furious. Your dh should be finding out who did this and telling them how it has upset you. These people are not your friends if they don't respect you.

crumblybiscuits · 31/01/2016 11:17

They don't sound like friends of yours. I would be cutting them off if someone did something so spiteful to things I enjoyed. How dare they?!

SatsukiKusakabe · 31/01/2016 11:17

Can't understand how you must feel, after all it wasn't one silly prank, it's half a dozen, undoing your work, costing you money to replace sketch book, and messing around with an expensive item that belongs to someone else while drunk is not ok.

Any suggestion of who was responsible? Just one person went a bit crazy?

Haggisfish · 31/01/2016 11:17

The pins would piss me off but the rest i would probably find quite funny. But I am quite puerile.

SatsukiKusakabe · 31/01/2016 11:18

Sorry, can understand how you must feel!

Creatureofthenight · 31/01/2016 11:18

I wouldn't think it very funny either.

cariadlet · 31/01/2016 11:19

YANBU.

tbh I think it was bad enough that your DH arranged a party when you made it clear that you didn't want one. He wasn't really thinking about you and how you would have liked to celebrate. He was either thinking about how he would want to celebrate his own birthday, how you "should" celebrate big birthdays or whether his friends would have thought less of him for not arranging a party for a big birthday.

The "jokes" were horrible. They weren't funny. They were the sort of offensive, immature pranks that you'd expect a bunch of teenage boys to play (sorry for offence caused to parents of nice, decent teenagers).

Real friends wouldn't treat you like that.

Branleuse · 31/01/2016 11:20

i would be fucking raging

ImperialBlether · 31/01/2016 11:21

I wouldn't find any of it funny. Do you have any idea who was involved in it?

Ellybellyboo · 31/01/2016 11:26

Thanks!

DH and I have talked about the party and he's apologised. He thought I'd like one but didn't want to make a fuss about it for myself, but the fact that I didn't want one in the first place has added to my pissed-off-ness

I know who it is, we have a couple of friends who find this stuff hilarious so I wouldn't have invited them if I'd known

I found the sketch pad first, and did laugh at that, but as time as gone on, the more I've found the more annoyed I've got.

YANBU. I'd be cross too, and not inclined to let any of the people involved back into my house, ever again.

MouldyPeach · 31/01/2016 11:27

Have you been involved in similar things on the other side with this people? I mean, did they have reason to believe you'd find it funny or that it's the kind of thing you have done before? If it is done without history then yanbu.

MissBattleaxe · 31/01/2016 11:28

It's vandalism. I'd be having words with those responsible.

JOEYDOESNTSHAREFOOD · 31/01/2016 11:29

This would really upset me, I really get it. I'm very precious about my things and my space. I don't care if that's sad, it's how I feel.

ScarlettDarling · 31/01/2016 11:29

What a bloody cheek. I would be beyond furious. Some people turn into complete idiots after a few glasses of wine. You should let them know what you think of their oh so hilarious 'jokes'.

diddl · 31/01/2016 11:30

How fucking inconsiderate of them!

Even the cock & balls I'm thinking-what a waste of a whole sketchpad!

But the pins!

I'd be making them come & repin it.
