To wish I lived in Gavin & Stacey?

I'm poorly so on the sofa watching Gavin & Stacey.

I love it. I wish my family and DH's family were like that. The one where they order the Indian takeaway and the Christmas one always make me think it looks so cosy!

What TV show would you 'live' in??

Here, if we ever have a late breakfast/early lunch I always say "I've just had my first brunch, I have!"

Or if I get another follower on Pinterest "17 friends on MySpace. Snowed under I am!"

If DH makes me an omelette I call him Gwen. We're a right couple of saddos!

hackmum · 17/10/2015 20:04

The blandness of the two central characters is a big part of the joke. How would the show work without them?

AnemonesCloser · 17/10/2015 20:06

But they're irritating rather than bland. Stacey's puppy dog eyes and squeaky voice!

I'm feeling tense just thinking about them.

BathshebaDarkstone · 17/10/2015 20:08

I have a girl crush on Nessa. Grin

jeanmiguelfangio · 17/10/2015 20:38

We quote it all the time, which becomes our own little in joke because none of our families have seen it.
"Anyone order a chinese?"
"The delights of bombay spice will grace our tables tonight"
and we do the hand thing to gesture everyone eating and sharing food.
And it is the messy drawer in our house too. There are endless quotes, such a cleverly written programme, I just adore it. Our parenting goal is to be pam and mick when we grow up!!!

Fluffy40 · 17/10/2015 21:00

Never saw it on TV , we were busy with two toddlers, but watched the whole thing in DVD , it really put a smile on your face!!

SkandiStyle · 17/10/2015 22:08

I would like to live in The Big Bang Theory.

It just reminds me so much of my very happy days as an under-graduate. Everyone lolling about on old sofas, eating endless takeaways and chatting about obscure stuff. No real responsibilities, other than handing in your coursework and all the time in the world to do it in.

When I met DH he shared a student house with 6 other uber science-geek blokes, all heavily into Star Wars and D&D. At the time I had hip-length blonde hair...I think I was Penny to their Leonard/Raj/Sheldon/Howard Grin

When Gavin and Stacey started, everybody automatically went, "Oh my god, Pam is just like your Mum!" ... and I live in Wales BUT it is North Wales (If you have been to North and South Wales you will know they are completely different).

Haha!

Pam: D'you know I have no idea what my name means in Welsh.
Nessa: Why.
Pam: 'Cause I don't speak the lingo darling!
Nessa: No in Welsh, Pam means why... or brick.

FloraDiesEarly · 18/10/2015 14:26

I've just remembered when Nessa turns up to bowling with her own bowling balls. Also she's so full on with Mick in front of Pam, I think when she's talking about driving the lorry she's like "I likes a good ride" and looks right at Mick!

thefutureofpolitics · 18/10/2015 14:55

Haha! I also like the bit where she says how she was a truck driver for The Who ...

"I used to drive the sets for The Who on their world tours. Great days. Til I found out some things about Pete Townshend that I didn't like. And all I'll say is - and I said it to his face - where is the book? I never saw him again".

TinklyLittleLaugh · 18/10/2015 19:39

My sister won a fancy dress competition dressed as Ness. Actually all she needed was a wig, she is a blonde Ness (Welsh too, very dry).

Whatsername24 · 18/10/2015 21:21

Friends, I'd like to live in Friends. Living in New York and hanging out in a coffee shop.

As for Gavin & Stacey, we're big fans in our house and my in laws live near to Barry (they're not Welsh, they've just all gradually moved to the area) so of course we had to visit! We were like kids at Christmas!! Grin

WalfordEast · 19/10/2015 12:36

My friend has just come back from NYC and has brought me a "I Love NYC" t shirt.

Reminds me of the episode when Gavin and Stacey get back from Honeymoon and Bryn gets a T Shirt printed "My niece went to greece and all i got was this lousy t shirt"

Ness: How did the t shirt go down Bryn?
Bryn: Mixed reviews Ness, mixed reviews

My DH and DSis continually slag me that I will become Pamelaaarh, because I have four boys and can be a bit gushy they better be joking Grin

My absolute favourite scene is when Pam has decided to go on the Atkins diet and is having three steaks; "one as my steak, one as my potatoes and one as my veg", then when Mick is teasing her she gets really upset and says "bet you'll be telling all your mates down the golf club and next thing I'll be known as Three Steaks Pam!"

In reality, like a pp, my family was very much like the Royle Family. "Can you ask Cheryl to bring through the catalogue?" "Do you want triangles or oblongs?" GrinGrin
