To wish I lived in Gavin & Stacey?

I'm poorly so on the sofa watching Gavin & Stacey.

I love it. I wish my family and DH's family were like that. The one where they order the Indian takeaway and the Christmas one always make me think it looks so cosy!

What TV show would you 'live' in??

I too would love to live in G&S. I just love how close and caring all the families are.

I always wanted to live in Star Trek TNG. Not as anyone important I just liked how it all looked clean and tidy.

Twerking9to5 · 15/10/2015 21:15

Oh this is a lovely thread! Just reading through it has made me feel fuzzy!! Need to watch them now.

Love when Bryn gets so tense about organising gwen's surprise party then shouts SURPRISE, SURPRISE, SURPRISE in her face when she eventually arrives.

And yy to the Xmas special being superb. I'm so tempted to watch it but will force myself to wait til December.

WildImaginings · 15/10/2015 21:18

Barry girl here. G&S portrayal of Barry is frighteningly accurate. Tuesday's are certainly an experience- Market Day. Or as it's known locally, Mingers day Hmm Where you can buy your knock off make up, cheap tobacco (but only taken out from underneath the shelf on request) and fruit and veg all in one place!

Haroldplaystheharmonica · 15/10/2015 21:20

Overscentedfanjo If it makes you feel better, I thought it was Gavin and Stacey who don't speak anymore? I think James and Matt are still good friends in real life.

Anyway while I'm here, the John Barnes rap is just genius. OH and I often say we want to be like Pam and Mick when our kids are older. Probably just as well as OH would otherwise like to be like Jim's dad (American Pie) Oh dear...

InQuiteAPickle · 15/10/2015 21:20

I love the bit where Mick and Pam are waiting to welcome Gavin and Stacey back from their honeymoon and they have an argument about Mick not holding it up properly. When Gavin and Stacey walk in Pam throws the bit that she's holding down to go and hug them so they never see it anyway!

Hassled · 15/10/2015 21:22

Lovely to see so many fans :)

I was pondering what if anything Americans might think of G&S so looked at the reviews on Amazon.com - here - and they seem to love it. To me it's so British oddball eccentric - I don't know why I'm surprised by their reaction, but I am.

InQuiteAPickle · 15/10/2015 21:23

James Corden and Matthew Horne definitely fell out. James Corden was interviewed by Piers Morgan and they talked about it. Matthew Horne was asked to be a part of the programme and he'd said no. I think James regretted the fall out. I'm not sure if they're friends again now.

squoosh · 15/10/2015 21:23

I like when sweet and gentle Gwen goes ballistic and foul mouthed when her arch enemy appears at Gwen's birthday party.

emwithme · 15/10/2015 21:29

I'd love to live in Gavin and Stacey.

Unfortunately, my family are basically The Royle Family/Catherine Tate's Nan character (in fact, when I first saw this, I turned to my best mate and wondered when my Gran had met CT!)

I like all Gwen's different aprons.

Haroldplaystheharmonica · 15/10/2015 21:39

NOOOOOOO!!!

They looked like best friends when they hosted the Brits many years ago

BakewellStart · 15/10/2015 21:58

There was an article in the Radio Times earlier this year where James Corden hinted there may be another series ....ONE DAY!

He said he would be devestated if there was no more Gavin and Stacey. He still thinks of them all off living their lives and that it would be nice to catch up and see where they are now!

I do hope they do make another show one day - even if its a one off Xmas special or something.

Also used to live in Barry and recognise where most of it was filmed!

jorahmormont · 15/10/2015 22:03

I LOVE Gavin and Stacey. I do a full re-watch whenever I have poorly pyjama days!

Although Joanna Page (Stacey) narrated a documentary we were on earlier this year, and mispronounced my DP's very common Welsh name constantly. He wasn't happy and is not a Joanna Page fan anymore Grin

QuestioningStuff · 15/10/2015 22:25

Oh this thread has made me so happy. Gavin and Stacey is just brilliant. Comforting is definitely the right word. They are the family I wish I had, it's just brilliant and beautifully written.

Dawn calling Pete a pre-op. And when they were rejected by the threesome guy.

Nessa saying she didn't look like a bridesmaid, that Stacey should have a bridesmaid like Leanne Battersby Grin

The first time Stacey stayed over and Gavin's and woke up with a huge spot and Pam thought he was beating her up. Then asked her 'do you want to show me, away from the boys?'

I wish it was my life!

firefly78 · 15/10/2015 22:29

I've met Larry Lamb. He was lovely.

PastaPrincess · 15/10/2015 22:39

I've just watched three episodes back to back thanks to this post!

Doris singing The Smiths is my favourite moment.

hassled they made a pilot and a few episodes of an American version of G&S but apparently it was so rubbish it didn't get shown. Rory Gilmore was in it.

MoriartyIsMyAngel · 15/10/2015 23:09

I would like to live in Fountain Lakes and go power-walking with Kath Day-Knight.

Ugh, Nugget. The Americans made an awful remake of Kath & Kim too. And the Inbetweeners. Why can't they just screen things as they are?!

Bakeoffcake · 15/10/2015 23:10

We love Ganvin And Stacy in this house.

One of my favourite bits is Bryn singing "Something Inside So Strong" in the church. He's fab!!

And there's a cracking line every two minutes-love it.

TheLambShankRedemption · 15/10/2015 23:14

Flora Owain Hughes is

Q: Owe Wayne Hughes?
A: No I don't

Guffaws all round.

"What's occurring?"
"Hang on Gav"

Love it.

Bakeoffcake · 15/10/2015 23:21

I'd forgotten about Dawn and Pete. They are awsomeGrin

Remember the attempt at a threesome?

WelshWereRabbit · 15/10/2015 23:27

Love it, it reminds me of home. My Dad's family is from Barry/Penarth area and I grew up not too far away. Went to Barry fun fair as a birthday treat most years of my childhood. My DP jokes that for me it's not a sitcom, it's a documentary.

I met Alison Steadman in a restaurant last year, she was more than happy to chat to everyone about G&S and was great fun. Now I want to watch them all again too!

ThoseAwfulCurtains · 15/10/2015 23:38

I thought Owain Hughes was a play on hughing being oldish slang for throwing up after you've been drinking. So Owain Hughes ... No I don't.
