Disgusted at the new Rihanna video!!

I'm not going to link, but I am absolutely disgusted at the new Rihanna video. Extreme sexual violence. Especially coming from Rihanna who has been a victim of domestic violence herself. Who would make a video like this? I just dispair at what is becoming mainstream.

Sorry, rant over, but this just really upsets me.

Excellent point pepperpot

Whoops, double post.

I believe in equality. I deliberately do not call myself a feminist. Please do not suggest that because I distance myself from the infantalising nonsense that passes for feminism these days makes me a bad person.

Flaming heck--do you realise that there are many variants of feminist thinking? You're playing right into the hands of those people working against 'equality' by portraying all feminists as crazy, bra-burning women.

MsMcWoodle · 03/07/2015 10:16

I wonder what her accountant thinks of it.

WhatsTheT · 03/07/2015 10:19

you can choose not to watch a Tarantino film but you are going to be exposed to music videos constantly.

What a load of bollocks!

Besides I had to sign in on my google account to access the video and confirm I was over 18. Simple parental controls just like films. The internet is not there for children, it's there for everyone.

Eh? The only time I've seen a music video for decades is when I've decided to watch one on YouTube.

WhatsTheT · 03/07/2015 10:24

Can I ask the people who are shocked by this video. Are you shocked by all the 18 plus films that depict torture, rape, violence, blood, gore, crime, drugs...etc. Were you this shocked when A Clockwork Orange, Trainspotting, Battle Royale, Pulp Fiction and thousands of other films were released?

WhatsTheT · 03/07/2015 10:27

Me too, I have to go looking for them. Music channels dont show that kind of video before the watershed, they blurred fire out of a One Directioin video for gods sake

Wishful80sMontage · 03/07/2015 10:36

Really?! Do you not go shopping or eat out ever?! They are on all the time in my city centre

WhatsTheT · 03/07/2015 10:39

Music videos are on when you are shopping? Where the hell do you shop. Same for eating out... there's no screens where I eat!

MumOfTheMoment · 03/07/2015 10:40

That song is unspeakably awful. Dire. And the least said about the video the better.

Wishful80sMontage · 03/07/2015 10:41

Obviously not where you are :) seriously people are saying they haven't watched a music video except online?!

I only ever see music videos online. We don't have the music channels on our tv so the dc don't stumble across something like this and I don't remember ever seeing them playing in any shops or restuarants that I go to.

purdiepipesup · 03/07/2015 10:45

Someonestolemyknick, I am 100% in agreement and I'd love to know how many of the outraged feminists on here surrendered their surname to their husband.

WhatsTheT · 03/07/2015 10:54

We also don't have any music channels. I wouldn't let my daughter watch something like the Rihanna one until she was the right age, same with any film.

I don't think Musicians are required to stick to one kind of age rating...

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 03/07/2015 11:01

OP you are not being unreasonable at all - I echo your sentiments. Rihanna is in a position of considerable power and influence and she chooses to glamorise the sexualisation of girls and violence against women. Shame on her and shame on the posters here who are trying to be post ironically clever and sniggering at the OP's objections

Pepperpot nails it.

WhatsTheT · 03/07/2015 11:03

Ah shaming other people. That's nice :)

I don't know, the artist in me says surely it is right for Rhianna to express whatever it is she is expressing in whatever way she chooses.

WhatsTheT · 03/07/2015 11:11

Just watched it again. It's got warnings, ratings. Seems to have all the same stuff in it that a feature film would have with a gang/kidnap/violence theme. Nothing special. Seen worse.

Guy took her money, she took the wife, killed the husband, got her money back, lots of nipples. Standard gangster theme. Only with women being the protaganist instead of a man for a change

Iggi999 · 03/07/2015 11:13

Well, not me for a start.Hmm Not sure what your point is?

WhatsTheT · 03/07/2015 11:13

Seems to be doing things on her own terms. The lack of fucks she gives makes me like her. Hate her music though.

Wishful80sMontage · 03/07/2015 11:14

Not me either so take me off that list please

LikeIcan · 03/07/2015 11:18

Bring back Mary Hopkin & Dana - that's what I say.

purdiepipesup · 03/07/2015 11:21

Whatsthe, could you answer my question?
