To wonder why there are men posting here?

The website is called MUMSnet. Not dadsnet or parentsnet, but MUMSnet. Most people who post here are female so why men would even want to post here is beyond me. It's even creepier when they don't have any kids.

Mumsnet. 'by parents for parents'.

AlpacaYourThings · 05/10/2014 09:11

Hmm Confused

FunkyBoldRibena · 05/10/2014 09:12

I have a stepdaughter so am not a mum.

Are you saying I am not welcome here?

kukesi · 05/10/2014 09:12

I don't have any children, so by your logic I should not be posting either. Is it creepy that I post?
There are many topics on this site not related to children/pregnancy/TTC.

waithorse · 05/10/2014 09:13

Because they want to. Hmm

ilovesooty · 05/10/2014 09:13

Why shouldn't they?
Presumably you're not keen to welcome childless women either.
If they're interested in what the site offers why can't they join in.
A nasty stirrer of course is a nasty stirrer regardless of gender or family circumstances.

PiperIsOrange · 05/10/2014 09:13

Because there is nothing in the T&C saying you have to be a parent or be female to join.

there is a very small section that is parenting. The rest is pet car, gaming and other non parenting things.

aturtlenamedmack · 05/10/2014 09:13

Perhaps because there aren't many forums that offer the same kind of support for men, who shockingly have thoughts, emotions and feeling just like women, and sometimes need to share them.
It's not at all creepy.

gordyslovesheep · 05/10/2014 09:14

because they can - it's the internet it's not segregated

RVPisnomore · 05/10/2014 09:14

Seriously, are you that narrow minded that you can't see that men might want to seek out advice etc or just might like to join in some and have some fun!? Men that need help don't need comments like yours!

HicDraconis · 05/10/2014 09:15

Ok, I'll bite.

Why does anyone post here? For a chat, for a laugh, for company, for advice, for support, for others' opinions, for a rant, to vent anger, to feel less alone ... etc.

Does it matter whether the person posting is in possession of a penis or vagina?

People without kids post here too, shock horror. For the same reasons I expect.

Catsize · 05/10/2014 09:16

Is this real? Not sure. But I like it when men post here. In the same way I like it when men go to baby groups etc.

mindthegap79 · 05/10/2014 09:16

YABU, weirdo.

AuntieStella · 05/10/2014 09:19
Biscuit
HoneyDragonMumshnet · 05/10/2014 09:19

Have tried actually reading the site?

You may be disappointed in Net Mums too. They don't fish.

BabyCentre is ridiculous. Not ONE baby posts on there.

As for twitter. Well absolutely no one is willing to discuss lesser spotted donglers.

And face book? Don't get me started....

Anyhoo, back to Mumsnet. You're right, terrible state of affairs. I suggest you deregister immediately. You're clearly too good for us.

Pretty sure this thread falls under "not what we're about." Reported.

HavanaSlife · 05/10/2014 09:19

Because dadsnet is really slow and they wnt to chat, need advice or have advice to give!

TheSultanofPing · 05/10/2014 09:20

Sadly RVP the Op probably is that narrow minded.

FreudiansSlipper · 05/10/2014 09:20

Because some want to join in the conversation

Others like to ask questions and get a number of different opinions

Some like to insult and it's a good way for them to put a large group of women in their place

Some are creepy and get a kick out of asking sexual questions

Others want to put across their narrow minded opinions and refuse to think out of the box. Like you are doing op

ClashCityRocker · 05/10/2014 09:22

I'm sure I heard that they did consider the name parents net, but decided it sounded awful.

Really?? Are you really that ignorant??

ClashCityRocker · 05/10/2014 09:23

Of course, i don't have kids,

They could call it adultsnet, but that just sounds like a porn site and we'd be overrun with weirdos.

TheMenzAreBack · 05/10/2014 09:24

But there are still more women than men on here I imagine. I have noticed that people do tend to assume that other posters are women on this site unless stated otherwise.

I wonder if there's ever been a poll to find the male:female ratio on here. I bet it would show there would be loads more women.
