To wonder why there are men posting here?

The website is called MUMSnet. Not dadsnet or parentsnet, but MUMSnet. Most people who post here are female so why men would even want to post here is beyond me. It's even creepier when they don't have any kids.

clash I don't think parentsnet sounds awful...

I love seeing posts from guys! It's a different perspective and why shouldn't they have need to ask opinion or find help also ? I would like to hope they are very welcome here Grin

fuctifino · 05/10/2014 09:25

Men can put a different light on things, or may wish to gain a woman's perspective on something.

Do you go to great lengths to avoid men in RL too Confused?

AuntieStella · 05/10/2014 09:27

Have you looked at the Alexa description of the site and its demographics? It's hardly secret information that anyone needs to wonder about or commission a poll about.

Merrylegs · 05/10/2014 09:28

Of course there are loads more women on here you silly. You don't need a poll to tell you that.

PiperIsOrange · 05/10/2014 09:29

It's Mumsnet.

Would you go into Mcdonalds, Argos, Ikea, Waitrose, Tesco, asda ect ect ect to change their trading name.

the founders of this site chose the name Mumsnet, because that's what the name they wanted.

Like Curry's the shop, they don't sell curry and never will should they change the name of the shop.

3littlerabbits · 05/10/2014 09:30

Ok so I do see where the OP is coming from. Obviously men can and should post here and fair play to everyone who does. I would have thought they would be put off by the name though, is it weird to think that?

3littlerabbits · 05/10/2014 09:31

Clearly yes, looking at the previous posts :)

Whiskwarrior · 05/10/2014 09:32

HQ have said time and time again that thay called the site Mumsnet because it's catchier than Parentsnet. I agree.

I don't have a problem with men posting here, whether they have kids or not.

And why is it creepy? We're all adults so there's no grooming of minors going on and no perving over the women.

Also, there are men posting here who aren't shouting from the rooftops that they actually are men! How do you know which posters are male OP?

PS grow the fuck up.

3littlerabbits · 05/10/2014 09:33

Piper none of the shop names you mention are gender or anything else specific. Curry's is a surname (although your post is forever going to be in my head when I see that shop now!)

AgathaF · 05/10/2014 09:33

I wonder if there's ever been a poll to find the male:female ratio on here. I bet it would show there would be loads more women and then what would you do with that information?

What an ignorant poster.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 05/10/2014 09:34

Pesky Menz.

Tut.

Castlemilk · 05/10/2014 09:34

How weird.

I posted here long before I had kids.

Found the site through a link and basically discovered that I'd found the funniest, most varied and interesting giant 'problem page' ever invented.

Why would anyone not be interested in that?

Anyone interested in taking part in lively conversation on all kinds of topics would find something on Mumsnet. I don't find it even slightly odd that men, childless people, whoever would post here.

wooooosualsuspect · 05/10/2014 09:34

I think some men do join to have a perv though.

PrettyPictures92 · 05/10/2014 09:34

Goady fucker is goady

BadLad · 05/10/2014 09:35

This is a site with a lot of traffic and a wide range of issues, and as I don't live in the UK, it's good for keeping up with the vox populi of my home country.

Hope that answers your question.

londonrach · 05/10/2014 09:35

Why not. Im not a mum, just an aunt. Wasnt this topic mentioned every month or so. Stop being so narrow minded op....

Whiskwarrior · 05/10/2014 09:38

Wooooooosual
But what about the ones who join just to have a goad though, eh? Eh? EH?

Your Halloween costume is scaring me, btw

TheBatteriesHaveRunOut · 05/10/2014 09:40

you know they let the wimmins drive cars and vote and fight in wars and all sorts of modern day ""equality"" craziness, OP

welcome to the 21st century
leave your copy of the daily wail at the door, there's a poppet

AuntieStella · 05/10/2014 09:41

"Your Halloween costume is scaring me, btw"

Where is ScaryBeardyCandyman these days?

wooooosualsuspect · 05/10/2014 09:41

Oh yeah Whisk, they join to have a good goad too.

SkinnyDipChunkyDunk · 05/10/2014 09:41

I love the diversity of Mumsnet and having Men here to give opinions about topics make it all the more interesting.

I can't get my head round why this would be a problem Hmm

YonicScrewdriver · 05/10/2014 09:42

Even if it was renamed parentsnet, I think the demographics would be very similar.

If posters on Babycentre are even 10% male, I'd be surprised.

Mrsstarlord · 05/10/2014 09:44

YABU, weirdo.

Brilliantly articulated Grin

mummylin2495 · 05/10/2014 09:45

Nothing wrong with men posting on here nor with childless people. They very well may need support or info on trying to conceive. I no longer have small children but have GC now, does this mean that I shouldn't be able to post on here and instead should go over to gransnet ? Men and women may need advice on child rearing at some point. I say welcome to the males on this site.
