My friend kept dds money and used Tesco vouchers

Hi, ds had inservice yesterday and a friend (a mum from school) offered to take her, her own dd and 2 others to an amusement park, entry fee was 25 pounds. When ds got back in the afternoon, we chatted about the day and it turns out the mum paid for my dd and the 2 other children with Tesco vouchers, ie, she had redeemed her Tesco points to pay for the 4 dcs and then kept 75 pounds form my dd and the 2 other dc. Surely she could have told us that this place took in Tesco vouchers and I could have used my own points and saved the money? I'm grateful that she took dd but surely she should have been upfront about her intention of using vouchers....AIBU?

That is very sly, it seems she intended to convert the Tesco vouchers into cash at your expense.

That's an awful lot of Tesco points. She must have spent about ten million quid to get those so . . . YABU. Your child got the day out, it didn't cost you any more than you expected, all is well.

she should have been upfront about using the vouchers. if she had said that was her plan, I'd have been a bit Hmm about it but at the same time grateful that she was taking my dc out for the day so that I could go to work.

Did she incur expense - petrol, food, drink etc?

If Tesco vouchers are still 3x face value then she's lost a cash equivalent of around £25, do if other expenses were around £50 then I'd say fair enough. I think. Not entirely sure.

She should have told you though.

Yes, that's a bit off (if, indeed, that's exactly what happened -- you never know). However, you were prepared to pay £25, your ds got a day out worth the £25 you paid, you got to go to work or do whatever you did ... I don't think it's worth more than a shrug of the shoulders really.

Well I mean, those vouchers COULD have been put towards Christmas food shopping but she chose to spend it on your DD etc, I would focus on that so as to not get your knickers in a twist. YANBU but it's done now and no point in having an argument

No it's not stealing, but I use Tesco vouchers for meals out etc and she knows that. I'm sure the other mums do too so it would have been nice if she'd mentioned beforehand that we could get the entrance tickets with Tesco vouchers, or maybe even say that she had a whole lot of points and would it be ok if she used them for our dc's entrance. She has effectively turned her Tesco vouchers into cash

Why does it matter? She still used vouchers that had that value, she could have used them on something else for the home. What difference does it actually make?

Well she could have used the vouchers for something else for her own kid I suppose If I was redemming vouchers I wouldnt take £25 from you

I wouldn't have minded. She still used £25 to pay which she could have used on something for herself. If she took more than the tickets cost that would be unfair but she didn't.

But with Tesco Boost vouchers, which she would have to use for days out not normal tesco clubcard vouchers, cost less. Like for eg If I go to Dublin Zoo it costs €16 per adult. I can boost my clubcard vouchers and buy a ticket for Dublin Zoo with €4 of my tesco clubcard vouchers, meaning a day at the zoo for me, my husband and 3 year old costs us €8 in clubcard vouchers instead of €32 in real money. She wouldn't have spent £75 in tesco clubcard vouchers, it would have been a lot less with boost vouchers.

What did she do wrong? Why would she have to ask if it was 'OK' to pay in a particular way?

Do you feel she's diddled you in some bizarre way that I can't see?

YABU - it would have been different if she had taken £25 off each of you, used a 2 for 1 voucher, and then kept the profit, but it's costing her to cash in her points.....

I don't see the problem, I redeem my nectar points for cash off my shopping if I'm skint. If someone gave me £25 to get them something, I'd give them the receipt and choose how I paid for it.
That parent did you a favour and took your daughter out for the day. To fuss about vouchers seems a bit silly. WHy should she have to check with you?

I cant see the problem either, she could have used them for something else.

It'd be like someone giving me cash to buy something from Amazon, and me keeping that cash and using a voucher I'd been given for my birthday. The voucher has a cash value to the cost of the goods.

Don't you get 4 points for every £1 spent?

250 points for a £2.50 voucher, so even trading up on a 4x boost - it's a million quid she's spent on Pom Bears and Fruit Shoots easy. The woman's a saint.

SaucyJack - that's a bit far-fetched. Are you seriously suggesting that the other mum took a day off work and took 4 children round an amusement park in order to get a slightly better deal on her clubcard points....
