I think he is great. He is my favorite celebrity/public figure and I wish he was king of england.

"would prefer William to be the next King, but that is not going to happen."
Why do people keep suggesting this as if it were even possible? It's not a phone-in popularity contest. So no, you're right, it's NOT going to happen.

It must be great having opinions when no one dares challenge you. It must give you a strong sense of being right

In his case, I'd say that's most definitely true!!! Hmm

"He will be our King at some point and I hope he is a good Head of State. I'm not that hopeful though and would prefer William to be the next King, but that is not going to happen."

Prefer William? Why on earth would you prefer him?

(Not that the line of succession is decided by phone-vote, but hey, I'm interested Smile)

Depends, though doesn't it Kim, on whether one wants a political head of state or a ceremonial one. Can't have the same job description for both.

Ach, he doesn't have presidential ambitions. He's just passionate and ernest and keen to get stuck in.

gertiegusset · 05/03/2014 23:09

I'd rather vote for a head of state.

MyBodyIsAtemplate · 05/03/2014 23:11

he abuses his position. he's an arse but unfortunately due to his upbringing and people fawning around him from the cradle he actually thinks he is intelligent. he is not.

William and Harry had the most expensive education going and the best teaching( presumably) my lads of similar ages went to the local comp and got far better grades at A level and degree.

they arnt the brightest family.

fideline · 05/03/2014 23:11

We'd end up with Boris

MyBodyIsAtemplate · 05/03/2014 23:14

if you can vote them in you can vote them out. that's democracy.

being born to be head of state is absolutely dreadful in 2014. we should be ashamed of ourselves as a nation to tolerate this ridiculous outdated nonsense.

gertiegusset · 05/03/2014 23:16

Yes, we might end up with Boris but at least it would have been a democratic choice.

MyBodyIsAtemplate · 05/03/2014 23:16

well if people vote for Boris so be it! he would get voted out again in due course.

the point is the royals can't be.

huge difference.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/03/2014 23:18

... whether one wants a political head of state or a ceremonial one

But they're different things, surely, and as you say we can't have both in the same person. Under the British system the political government changes while the non-political head of state (the monarch) remains in place. It's given stability at difficult times in the past and somehow it seems a shame to change everything now, just because a rather petulant Charles fancies himself as a campaigner

If he honestly wants to widen his role into politics a lot more clarity would be needed; would he accept that, or would he expect to carry on picking those bits which suited him, then avoid criticism by pulling rank??

gertiegusset · 05/03/2014 23:24

I cannot understand why Charles' opinion is taken into account in any decision making.
His correspondence with the Government listened to by them.
Why?
He's just another unelected windbag with a fairly ordinary degree who has an opinion on everything and experience of very little.
Let them keep all their palaces but make them go away.

steff13 · 06/03/2014 01:05

From an outsider's perspective, Charles seems ok. The only royal I'm really interested in is Prince Harry, and that's just because I like to think about all the naughty things I'd do to him...
