to get the rage at thin-ist comments?

Am I??

Seriously, just over the last few days, I've seen so many comments slating thin women and it's starting to piss me off. I would never dream of making sizeist comments, firstly because I don't think being a certain size (or not) makes you attractive.

But a brief list of the thin-ist comments I've come across this week.

"Most men don't go for size 8s"
"It would be like shagging a folding deckchair"
"some skinny little cow"
if he wants you to lose that much weight and be that slim, he must be gay"

etc..

If anyone tried to same the same about, say, size 18s they'd be slaughtered and rightly so. So why is it ok to pick on women who are slim? Not "anorexic" (unless they really are of course, which is a completely different issue), women who are just naturally slim and small. Why? WHHHYYY??

And how can you tell on an internet forum what people weigh?

bishbashboosh · 07/01/2014 16:59

Why would you want to know this ?

bishbashboosh · 07/01/2014 17:01

Shall we just agree that it's ok to be fat then but not ok to be thin? Let's tell out kids the sameWink

Chippednailvarnish · 07/01/2014 17:03

It's just funny how thinner people shrug off the insults but larger people jump on the bandwagon

So how do you tell who fits your personal definition of "thinner" or "larger" without weighing them? Especially on the internet?

Chippednailvarnish · 07/01/2014 17:04

It's not okay to be judge people based on your own narrow definition of what is acceptable. That's what this whole thread is about.

bishbashboosh · 07/01/2014 17:09

I said what was acceptable to me and my life, re read. Never even crossed my mind the size of anyone on this thread. Why would it? I could be 20 stone and bored.

The debate is why is generally ok to insult thin people because they are thin but when fat people are insulted it's frowned upon. Or they start getting tetchy.

Yawn

For I minute there I reread your original post thinking perhaps I had misread the intent but no, no, you obviously have some form of axe to grind.

Shall we just agree that it's ok to be fat then but not ok to be thin? Let's tell out kids the same

And this is deliberately missing the point, shall we just tell our children it is ok to be nasty to people as long as they are fat then? Or because they are thin? Or because they have short hair?

Shall we extend that and pop in any old prejudice which suits then? Shall we? Wink

It isn't about what size is 'ok' it is about keeping negative and hurtful remarks to yourself hence the title and OP talking about 'thinnist comments.'

Geeze.

Ev1lEdna · 07/01/2014 17:12

but when fat people are insulted it's frowned upon. Or they start getting tetchy.

Funny how you know ALL fat people and how they all react. Yawn.

Chippednailvarnish · 07/01/2014 17:26

bish maybe the fat people you find getting tetchy with you, is because you're being rude and judgemental.

Just as rude and judgemental as people who complain about people being thin and unwomanly. It's exactly the same thing.

wontletmesignin · 07/01/2014 18:10

It does my head right in.
Im 5ft and very thin.

I get all of the time:
Oh youre so dainty
How thin are you
You need a few more pounds on you
I will give you some of my fat
Youre so fragile
I wish i could stay that size after giving birth
How small

When i was pregnant, they were terrible.
God how can a baby fit inside of you...the same way the 1st, 2nd and 3rd did!!
But you are sooo dainty and small...am i? I never noticed.

I know they mean no harm, but it gets a little bit grrrr when every new person you come across comments on your height and weight as if i wasnt already aware of it.

I wouldnt dream of saying anything to anyone about their weight or height!

You just have to grin and bear it. Then you get those who go on and on and on...

wontletmesignin · 07/01/2014 18:11

A bit like i went on there! Hmm

I mustve needed that rant

BasicFish · 07/01/2014 20:30

bishbashboosh

I think you've misunderstood the entire point of my post and pretty much everything everyone has posted after that Hmm

It's just funny how thinner people shrug off the insults but larger people jump on the bandwagon

No, thinner people don't just shrug off the insults. Not by a long shot. That's what the whole point of this thread is.

I certainly know most men prefer curvy and healthy women

How? Did you interview them all? It's utter bollocks. Some men prefer curvy women, some men prefer slim women. I should know, I've dated plenty of the latter who have found my body vair sexy Wink You don't "certainly" know any kind of bollocks, you certainly don't speak for all men and most importantly - I can't understand why you are coming onto a thread that's made it perfectly clear that that kind of comment is NOT OK and just charged in and made it anyway.

wontletme

Rants are fun! Smile
