Confused

It mostly doesn't taste of wee bites of nice, normal food but instead gelatinous mush with indistinct flavours

where have you been getting yours from?

BohemianGirl · 07/12/2013 17:40

Depends where you buy things

Rosencrantz · 07/12/2013 17:41

The stuff I buy is great!

Spring rolls. Nom.

gordyslovesheep · 07/12/2013 17:41

well it sounds like the stuff you buy is - 'gelatanous mush' where DO you shop?

I love party food Grin and my is never mushy

moondog · 07/12/2013 17:42

Yes.
I was once so ill after eating pre-prepared party food, I had to vomit up my sleeve in a stable and rush home.
Bleurggh.

LaurieFairyCake · 07/12/2013 17:50

I don't buy it but even at poshish buffets where it's all M and S and Waitrose stuff it's mushy

And brown with no freshness to it

TheChimpParadox · 07/12/2013 17:51

Well stop shopping at Iceland then Smile

LaurieFairyCake · 07/12/2013 17:55

I've never even been in an Iceland

Unless you mean the country Wink

joke, can't afford to go there

harriet247 · 07/12/2013 17:56

I love iceland.i said it.

NoComet · 07/12/2013 17:58

It's cheap cheerful and fun, that's the point. You shove trays of it in the oven, you crack open a wine box and chat to newly arrived visitors on Christmas Eve, without any stress. You can always have salad if your feeling good.

timidviper · 07/12/2013 17:59

Maybe it's more to do with the preparation or serving. I do a mixture of homemade and bought and have never had any problems but then it is all served straight from the oven, not left hanging around, etc.

herladyship · 07/12/2013 18:02

YANBU if you are referring to frozen party food (aka the curse of the brown buffet) Grin

YoungBritishPissArtist · 07/12/2013 18:03

Waitrose and M&S is just about tolerable, Iceland can't even make there's look good in their adverts Shock if looks boaksome on telly, with all the trickery they can use, I can't imagine what it tastes like Sad

Merguez · 07/12/2013 18:04

I find that usually there is an over-reliance on fried stuff on those party canapés, which tends to be a bit indigestible.

And at ds's school they serve it cold, which is double yuk. Cold samosas and spring rolls, no thanks.

Sparklingbrook · 07/12/2013 18:04

YANBU. In the ads it looks lovely. Once it's out of the oven it's greasy and brown and yuk.

I am going to plunder the desserts from Iceland instead this year.....

NettoSuperstar · 07/12/2013 18:04

I love home cooking, but every Christmas Eve buy party food.
I fully intend to buy the silliest stuff from Iceland this year, just for the laugh of it.

SkinnybitchWannabe · 07/12/2013 18:05

Yabu.
I love Icelands party food.
M&S party food is over priced and over packaged.
We're having an Iceland buffet on Christmas Eve.
Some people are just snobs.

mrspremise · 07/12/2013 18:13

You can't beat a prawn ring Grin

Heartbrokenmum73 · 07/12/2013 18:23

YABU because:

Sainsburys Duck Spring Rolls.

Holy.fucking.shitballs Batman!

Sparklingbrook · 07/12/2013 18:23

Oh no it's half price.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 07/12/2013 18:24

The Iceland bits are absolutely shite. I'm no snob, I'll usually eat any old thing but I do find them very unpalatable.

Cleorapter · 07/12/2013 18:28

YABabitU

Love some duck spring rolls and pigs in blankets Xmas Grin

Thisisaghostlyeuphemism · 07/12/2013 18:29

Yeah, it's rank mush.

I shall use that phrase at the next party I go to :)

Heartbrokenmum73 · 07/12/2013 18:32

Having visions of Thisisaghost at a party, poking the food and muttering about 'rank mush' Grin

Ev1lEdna · 07/12/2013 18:33

Tesco finest range - some of those are lush. While M&S are expensive they do some nice things.

Tesco do these chicken a chorizo ball things they are super-yum (freezer section)

I consider myself somewhat of a 'small food' connoisseur Xmas Wink
