Confused

It mostly doesn't taste of wee bites of nice, normal food but instead gelatinous mush with indistinct flavours

The choice of premade party food over here is CRAP overpriced and very limited.

I always do a from scratch buffet on Christmas eve only cos Ive got no choice (adult kids friends come every year and start asking what were having around september :o ). I make my own sausage rolls and sausage meat cos again you cant get either here and I fckin LOVE sausage rolls

I find these people sorted food are GREAT for quick easy home made anything. I did the smoked salmon blinis last year and they are to DIE for. I CBA the blinis and did them on bagel chips though. They were excellent and I loved the crunch. They lasted like 10 mins once the kids friends found em

I really really teally want to try the fish finger mushy pea and chip things from iceland though :o (ponders a trip to British import shop for a $6 tin of mushy peas to try my own )

I make zamosas from scratch (ok, I buy the skins). To cook them, I would deep fry them, rather than put them in the oven. I think they would be a little soggy if you cook them in the oven.

blueshoes · 07/12/2013 23:51

Same goes for spring rolls

stopgap · 08/12/2013 00:59

I agree. I'd much rather have a nice big salad, fresh bread, cheeses and salamis than I would a table full of re-heated frozen stuff. Who the hell likes wontons, anyway?

winklewoman · 08/12/2013 04:20

Thanks, moondog. However easy homemade blinis are, and I am sure yours are delicious, I am looking for the easiest route for our pre-lunch drinks do i.e. defrost and toast in advance, I am shying away from anything that needs last minute assembly, or, as Taffeta says, standing by the oven all morning.

Dolcelatte · 08/12/2013 06:32

I agree that most of it is rubbish.

But have you tried the M & S scallops in mint pea puree or pork crackling with plum sauce or even the mini hot dogs? I guarantee that these buck the trend! Also, they are doing 3 for 2 on party food at the moment.

Snowbility · 08/12/2013 07:43

Home made sausage rolls, kettle crisps and some nuts...perfect party food.

stickysausages · 08/12/2013 08:39

The Sainsbury advert has been the most appetising so far for me

Badgerwife · 08/12/2013 08:47

I know, ironic isn't it? I use herta frankfurthers, any other brand tastes disgusting, but yes, frankfurthers... Any other meat I'm super particular about, including normal sausages (has to be tesco finest) but frankfurthers are different for some strange reason Blush

I went to a barbecue once and the burgers were frozen ones from Iceland. They were absolutely inedible, I don't believe there was more than 30% meat in them

Theodorous · 08/12/2013 08:48

Better than having whole meal soggy mush people have made that breaks ones teeth

gubbygubby · 08/12/2013 08:50

Lager and lime chicken wings from Iceland anyone?
Er no thanks

Sparklingbrook · 08/12/2013 08:51

gubby what on earth are they?

Sparklingbrook · 08/12/2013 08:53

OMG they are a thing. Shock

MrsDavidBowie · 08/12/2013 08:53

We had very nice FILO wrapped prawns last night from M and S .
There are boxes of food left in the fridge...totally over ordered.

Gileswithachainsaw · 08/12/2013 09:02

Yanbu. They all taste the same and are greasy soggy mush yt somehow overdone and dried out inside at the same time Confused

Yet, when presented with homemade Delia smith style sausage rolls, honey and mustard sausages, fresh tuna sweet corn pasta complete with fresh herbs and toasted pine nuts and other lovingly prepared fresh tasty food, no one touches it.

Seems the nation wants Shite :o

TheHippyWhoWearsLippy · 08/12/2013 09:03

YANBU shop most shop party food is truly awful. Don't even get me started on Iceland wouldn't shop there if I was paid to. We have a party for about 60 on NYE me & MIL cook from scratch every year. No stress involved at all as long as you plan and stay organise, still have lots if time to get my hair & make up done in time for the party.

Badgerwife · 08/12/2013 09:03

i love that the lager and lime chicken wings don't even have lager or lime in the ingredients' list Shock

Sparklingbrook · 08/12/2013 09:04

Is it bad that I want to try the L&L chicken wings now? Blush

LynetteScavo · 08/12/2013 09:04

YANBU

But until I have household staff, I shall contunue to serve up premade party food.

RobinSparkles · 08/12/2013 09:43

RobinSparkles · 08/12/2013 09:44

I do like premade party food though.

usualsuspect · 08/12/2013 09:45

I love premade party food.

And I love Iceland.

usualsuspect · 08/12/2013 09:48

Not a chance in hell I would ever make a sausage roll from stratch.

usualsuspect · 08/12/2013 09:48
