Asda-To think this is stealing?

Shopped with Asda online for many years and i wake up this morning to find they have taken my payment twice.
I am absolutely livid beyond belief they are allowed to do this.
I know i will get the money back eventually, but they have taken my bank into the red aswell. I phoned the bank and they said Asdas have only just started doing this and i could be waiting up to a week to get my money back.
Aibu to think this is stealing and that i should have been pre-warned when ordering that their policy had changed?
Just feel robbed this morning and now my family's trip is ruinedSad

This has happened to me a couple of times.

The last time it happened was when we had all that snow in Nov 2010. They "held" the money but couldn't deliver the shopping because of the weather. I was left with no food, no nappies and no money whatsoever.

My bank said that Asda needed to fax them to get them to cancel the authorisation, and Asda said that they didn't and wouldn't do that. It was horrible and a very lean week indeed.

I do my online shop with Sainsburys, they do your shop the day of delivery and then charge your card with what your shopping actually costs. That is all. No pre-authorisation, no money held. You pay once and that's it! So much better Smile

TerraNotSoFirma · 28/05/2013 15:45

Just having a wee re-read of my thread and according to emails sent to several MN'rs they promised to look into it and ensure steps were taken to stop this happening again (or words to that effect)
Clearly they don't keep their promises.

TickleMyTitsTillFriday · 28/05/2013 15:50

Trainline do this too, it's bloody appalling!

CharlieUniformNovemberTango · 28/05/2013 16:12

I always use Asda - or should I say I did!

This has really worried me so I don't think I will risk using them anymore.

I have a very tight budget and there is no way I could afford double the shopping bill going from my account and with no overdraft the fees would wipe me out too.

SusanneLinder · 28/05/2013 16:22

They did this to me and took the money FOUR times, in their store though and not on line. Shopping was £300 as it was Xmas.

Used debit card, they said it had declined (strange as we knew we had it welll covered), they put it through again, still declined, so we used our credit card-again declined. It ended up that DH took CASH out the bank.

Thanks to Asda, they had £1200 of my money-yup it had all gone through. Our mortgage bouncedAngry, and becuase of the Christmas holidays, it didnt get sorted out till 15th January.

We had to use our credit card to survive, so I hardly ever go to Asda, and will never shop online with them. They are shit!

pumpkinsweetie · 28/05/2013 16:28

Four times susanne jeezus, there really is no stopping Asda making mugs off us. Thankgod this hasn't happened to me at Christmas, it would have ruined it!
How long did it take to get all your money reinbursed?

You should get in touch with bbc moneybox programme about this. It's awful. It's always the people who can't afford it that get ripped off.

WhiteYFronts · 28/05/2013 16:50

I won't use Asda as I've had this happen to me in the past, it has left me really lean and worried. If someone is close to the bone financially it could lead to rent/mortgage payments being bounced, not being able to get to work or eat. Its disgraceful.

I had a dreadful time with Asda Direct too, my new bed broke when only a few months old. Cue months of calling back and forth while I slept on a mattress on the floor. They had the cheek on the phone to suggest I broke it as it was for sleeping on not sitting on. Quite how I'm supposed to get into bed without sitting on it first is beyond me, take a running jump and leap straight into the prone position perhaps. I weighed 10 stone so it was hardly taking any special strain. Took a recorded delivery rant letter to the CEO to get it sorted.

landofsoapandglory · 28/05/2013 17:32

They did it to us too. We could cover it, but after reading all these threads on MN where people are left high and dry, I refuse to use them any more. They are bastards IMO, they know what they are doing but couldn't give a flying fuck.

Tesco keep pissing me off by turning up late, but at least they only tAke what they are owed!

Blatherskite · 28/05/2013 17:49

I didn't realise they did it if you went in store too!

I don't got there often as it's not my nearest store but it'll certainly make me think twice next time

pumpkinsweetie · 28/05/2013 17:54

Neither did i, i won't be shopping instore either then!

Email watchdog. Can you imagine how this would impact their business if everyone who shopped with them knew of this shitty underhand practice?

Thing is they are doing it to the most vulnerable who can't afford to pay for their shopping twice whereas the great Walmart could bloody bankroll a weeks grocery shopping for everyone in the UK.

DoubleLifeIsALifeHalved · 28/05/2013 18:15

IncrediblY bad practice, I would assume there is some strong advantage for them, such as earning interest, making figures look stronger...

Why would anyone trust them once they know how they treat people and their grasping entitlement that they can take people's money like that. Disgusting

pumpkinsweetie · 28/05/2013 18:43

I was wondering the that, as i can't see of any other reason why they do this.

I used to do a lot of shopping with Asda I stopped about a fortnight ago after I watched a pensioner at the tills be told her card had declined twice but they refused to give her the print outs from the card machine.

I gave her my mobile so she could ring the bank who told her both transactions had gone through. She had insufficient funds to make the third payment they demanded and would not let her take the food she had paid for.

Customer services refused to help her in any way at all called her a liar loudly and reduced her to tears. I drove her home

I will never spend not even 1p in Asda ever again.

IneedAsockamnesty · 28/05/2013 19:29

Oh should this link have been sent to Asda and they read it,at the same time as doing my shopping I also do my sisters my households is quite large and we have staff we feed so that's about £600 a week your down.

Redskys · 28/05/2013 19:50

This is shocking treatment from Asda. I spend a large amount most weeks shopping online with Asda, this has really put me off. Some times I use sainsburys online has any body had the same problem with them?

quoteunquote · 28/05/2013 20:01

That is horrific Socks, how the hell are they getting away with it, has anyone connected watchdog, this deserves to be featured, people need to be warned.

I've had 49 replies, on FB so many are saying that they know of someone this has happened to, and all will be avoiding asda, all have shared,

It has to be some sort of scam, they must be making a fair it out of it, I wonder how many people are not having their money returned, or even realise ASDA stole it in the first place.

It's quite sick they are doing it, clearly purposely as no other company seem to have the issue at the same level.

pumpkinsweetie · 28/05/2013 20:09

I'm thinking about trying watchdog, as this is affecting so many people it's beyond beliefShock
Thats awful sock poor lady, Asda targetting the elderely to gain even more interest in their banks, disgraceful especially when someone doesn't have a penny to rub together!

AmandinePoulain · 28/05/2013 20:30

I've seen this issue on Watchdog before, ages ago. It seems nothing's changed though! Shock

LaGuardia · 28/05/2013 21:11

Absolutely no way I am going to shop at Asda now. I am going to tell everyone this tale. It is outrageous. Bastards.

quoteunquote · 28/05/2013 22:33

StuntGirl · 28/05/2013 22:49
