To ask why the MN forums have such little functionality?

So, other forums let you quote other posts, or put text in different fonts/colours etc, or indicate your 'thanks' for a post. Can't be that difficult / expensive, so why are these added functions not available on MN?

Because we fear change

TheVermiciousKnid · 22/04/2013 18:30

Sometimes less is more.

Weegiemum · 22/04/2013 18:31

Because the day they do this, I'm leaving (with quite a few others I'm sure).

We're more interested in what people are saying than the fancy fonts. And if they ever allow "tickers", the universe will implode!

TheVermiciousKnid · 22/04/2013 18:32

I think it might break the internet. :(

cowmop · 22/04/2013 18:33

My dh is on a forum where users are constantly quoting each other in huge boxes. It makes it all so long winded and really boring to read. As for tickers and banners - meh.

Growlithe · 22/04/2013 18:34

We rely on the quality of our posts. HTH

ClaraOswald · 22/04/2013 18:35

Because only boring people need all that fancy shit to put their point across. HQ excluded.

ItsYoniYappy · 22/04/2013 18:35

change is bad

We all went ape-shit when MN changed to pages. Everyone was flouncing etc.

V stressful

MissAnnersley · 22/04/2013 18:35

I really don't enjoy reading forums where the users quote each other endlessly. Wouldn't be for me.

LtEveDallas · 22/04/2013 18:36

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

NoelHeadbands · 22/04/2013 18:38

I could probably cope with avatars and tickers, although I'd hate it. The quote function would finish me off though, I'd have to leave forever.

Have you seen the MSE boards? Awful.

Sparklingbrook · 22/04/2013 18:39

Different Colours? Shock

erowid · 22/04/2013 18:39

I prefer using this forum because it has such little faff.

Because it's nice and simple and we can read it without all of the sparkly shite of other sites.

imour · 22/04/2013 18:41

hi can you block people on mn ? or stop them inboxing you ?

FoundAChopinLizt · 22/04/2013 18:42

I like how low tech mn is.

I read another forum and people quote the entire message before replying to anything. I don't get why, it is painful to read.

HunterWellies · 22/04/2013 18:47

I need calm. Calm and peace. I am harangued all the live long day by small people and their Noisy Toys. And that bastard Tumble.

I don't want it on here. No. Just calm and peace.

So I can concentrate on the judging and bitching.

ClaraOswald · 22/04/2013 18:48

Think of MN as a realtime conversation.

Do you quote back what someone has said to you before replying? Most people, in normal conversation don't.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 22/04/2013 18:51

Because it's cluttery. I wondered the same when I first arrived here but I've grown to love the simple focus on people's words in a clean, elegant setting.

It's one of the things that makes MN different

I was saying earlier on another thread that this MNer's love of simplicity and an uncluttered interface was part of the reason why the ghastly Boots 'page takeover' ads were going down so badly.

Are you from Boots?

HullMum · 22/04/2013 18:52

you can still quote people, this way just means that you actually have to pay attention to what you are quoting and don't get miles of quotes. I'd fucking love a block user function though
