My washing machine is my best friend.

I think he'd feel lonely if his knobs weren't twiddled with on Crhistmas Day.

I don't think I could survive the guilt of feeling he was neglected.

Well it's either stick 2 in on Xmas day or 4 on boxing day so I'm just as well to carry on with the usual routine

I will probably run some through - just undies and stuff, nothing complicated. Otherwise it is just all there looking at you on Boxing Day morning.

I will not be using the washing machine unless it is emergency. Come on give yourselves a break. This is sounding a bit like martyrdom. Eat a mince pie, play with the kids and have a glass of wine.

I normally do 3+ a day, we have a house full on both days, I can't bear the thought of Massive Piles.

Do you seriously need to wash every day? Would drive me bonkers. Only do at the weekend here unless its urgent.

We do a wash each day, Xmas is no exception, it's not like I'm down scrubbing clothes at the river.

No it is not going down to the stream but it is a day of rest to spend with family and enjoy each others company. I have three kids and people staying over Christmas and have no intention on doing any washing. YABU

I do washing on Christmas Day. It takes less than a minute to load the machine and transfer to tumble dryer. Hate dirty washing building up, I wash clothes every day.

How does popping some cloth in a machine and pressing a button mean you can't 'rest'?

Would you feel the same about popping some food in the microwave and pressing a button?

Can't understand the "work" argument. Washing takes 1 min out of family time. Cooking on the other hand....well that takes hours and people would be up in arms if everyone said they couldn't be arsed to cook!

I am a bit like you, Op. but I will be letting mine have the day off on Christmas day, I will be twitching by boxing day though. The dishwasher will feature very heavily over the next few days, but somehow loading & unloading crockery is not as satisfying as clean clothes. So YANBU!!!

If mine went untouched the laundry pile would become a landmark.
I put it on first before I even feed the cat thing as I come downstairs.

StNic - I am more concerned now about your large piles on Boxing Day. Get some pessaries before the chemist shuts. :)

I think i can manage to find six minutes in the day to get on with it and still enjoy family time

I normally don't, just get it all up to date before Christmas so there isn't a real build up but last year dd (Ds? Can't remember) wet the bed so i had to do that. I don't have to wash clothes every day normally though- I probably do 3 or max 4 of clothes a week, one of towels and a couple of bedding. I often end up doing them all on two or three days rather than a load a day. Its not the washing i wouldn't want to do on xmas day but the folding and putting away.
