to not stop with the laundry on Christmas Day?

My washing machine is my best friend. Sad

I think he'd feel lonely if his knobs weren't twiddled with on Crhistmas Day.

I don't think I could survive the guilt of feeling he was neglected.

I'll bet I'm not the only one...

8children?? Nooooo 8 PEOPLE

Misty9 · 22/12/2012 20:14

I do 1-2 loads a day, although have the odd day of no washing since we cut back on cloth nappies during the day. My problem is the lack of a kitchen door so ours won't be on during CD due to the noise. DH is also against having washing out on the clothes horse when we have guests...
A cloth nappy wash takes practically all day with all the rinses, so definitely couldn't do 11 loads in one day!

MerylStrop · 22/12/2012 20:15

I'm not doing any laundry on Xmas or Boxing Day
That is my present to myself

DecAndAnt · 22/12/2012 20:23

I couldn't bear the noise. I have a friend who is obsessed with washing and she goes round the house searching for things to put it. Every time you go round the machine is on and it is not a relaxing place to be.

forevergreek · 22/12/2012 20:36

Surely those wearing uniform then coming home and changing, can then wear those non uniformed clothes for several days? As they would only be on for a few hours max each late afternoon/ eve

kittyandthegoldenfontanelles · 22/12/2012 21:02

Cloth nappies here too. I do a load a day and have a massive drum.

Will probably do a nappy wash on Christmas day too.

NannyEggn0gg · 22/12/2012 21:08

Are you changing clothes for each meal, OP?
If you wash on Christmas Eve, how can you have enough to wash on Christmas Day?

littlepinkfizz · 22/12/2012 21:14

I do at least 2 washes a day but refuse to do anything on Xmas day. Have a complete day off. Tell everyone to go easy on the washing for a few dats to give you a break.

AnnaRack · 22/12/2012 21:22

Yanbu. A load of washing takea about 10mins of your time and stops the pile building up. Why not do it? Now ironing, that's another matter....

ShakySingsMerryXmasEveryone · 22/12/2012 21:25

I actually saw the bottom of the laundry basket today, it was a beautiful sight.

20 minutes later DP filled it with a weeks worth of socks, pants, shirts etc Angry

Plomino · 22/12/2012 21:31

Will probably sling some in just to save it piling up . Besides which , have only one tablecloth, so to have it clean on Boxing Day , after the food fight on Christmas Day , it'll need washing . Will get machine to do its thing whilst am lounging on sofa emptying the sweet tin and the sherry bottle whilst watching
Downton. No hardship really .

cardibach · 22/12/2012 22:17

If you have a big family and it makes life easier, there is no reason you shouldn't do washing on CHristmas Day, I suppose. I am gbsmacked that those with only 3 or 4 people in the house can find 2 loads a day! I do no more than 4 a week, and often less. Could you tell me exactly what you are putting in each time? CAn't see how you find it, honestly I can't.

pinkyp · 22/12/2012 22:22

I wash alot but we wash our clothes after every use except costs & dressing gowns, but I won't be doing any Xmas day, I'll get it all done tomorrow and prob do a small load Xmas eve and that'll be it for a couple of days.

happierwithgin · 23/12/2012 07:21

If leaving the laundry would make you anxious then put the washer on. It takes less time to do than loading the dishwasher. I have an outside laundry room as I have 3 machines( 1 for our clothes, 1 for Husbands/ Staff Butchers Whites and 1 for dog blankets/coats), and to be honest I quite enjoy 5/10 mins peace in there. It is against the law to do the ironing on Christmas Day though.

Bunbaker · 23/12/2012 08:58

"but we wash our clothes after every use"

Even jeans/trousers/skirts?

How wasteful. Or do you get them exceptionally dirty?

ShakySingsMerryXmasEveryone · 23/12/2012 09:00

It is against the law to do ironing at ANY time, IMO Grin

Goldendandelion · 23/12/2012 09:14

We generally do at least 2 loads a day, but there are 9 of us living here. I won't be doing any on Christmas Day though!

RandallPinkFloyd · 23/12/2012 09:24

I suppose if there are 9 of you ( Xmas Shock ) then 2 loads a day is probably needed but to wash every item of clothing after one wear is just daft.

I mean why? Is it just because it's easier to just throw clothes in the basket than actually put them away? Or are you all exceptionally messy?

SledYuleCated · 23/12/2012 09:29

Lets not forget OP vacuums her driveway

StNiChaolas · 23/12/2012 09:47

Perhaps that's why I wasn't selected for the Dyson test.

They knew it wouldn't stand up to the vigorous work that Henry does with nary a whinper.

I don't know why I'm trying to be all moral. I looked at my doorstep yesterday and thought it could do with a good hooper in the corners.

Sirzy · 23/12/2012 10:18

I won't be doing any simply because the washer is in the kitchen and I hate listening to it when I'm cooking!

RandallPinkFloyd · 23/12/2012 10:30

I don't have a drive Xmas Sad (happy to pm my paypal address to rectify this)

I hoover the door step and the path though.

I have a covered porch so it gets really dusty and cobwebby. A quick buzz with the hoover on the path then get the nozzle out to do in the corners and the outside of the door.

McChristmasPants2012 · 24/12/2012 20:42

Spent all day washing and drying about to put the last load away :) little housework will be done from now until the kids go back to school.

ChablisLover · 24/12/2012 20:47

Was tempted but no washing will be done tomorrow - the machine needs a break too!

Wine feet up and enjoy and relax
