Chav

I think it's an unwelcome normalisation of an offensive term. Don't like it at all.

My first reaction too, but apparently it's genuine.

Shock YADNBU

notsofrownieface · 12/08/2012 19:29

YANBU, I can't believe that a major retailer would sell that.

DeepPurple · 12/08/2012 19:33

Grin that's cracking. I guess it's a bit boring for many though since avoiding the police and claiming "wages" is normal life.

JeezyPeeps · 12/08/2012 19:37

YABU. It is satirising stereotypesand, presumably, trying to be lighthearted fun.

What concerns me more is the fact that it doesn't seem to know what age range it is for.

NCForNow · 12/08/2012 19:38

Omg! I am about to write to Tesco and complain about this. It's disgusting.

Taking the mick out of the working classes is suddenly ok is it?? No. It is not ok at all!

If people on here are going to laugh at this....think on...it's not so long ago that it was ok to laugh at women and call them names and joke abut their capabilities on tv etc And yes..the demonization of the working classes is in my opinion as shocking.

NCForNow · 12/08/2012 19:40

Just look at the shitty headline on the box "The game they tried to ban!"

Who do you reckon will play this?

Chavs? Middle class people? Who and why?

JeezyPeeps · 12/08/2012 19:41

Since when did chav=working class people?

Thats a new one on me!

bureni · 12/08/2012 19:41

The term Chav comes from the term Chavi which means a Romany child but has since been over used by the English to the point that people who use the term in a derogatory way do not know its meaning or origins much in the same way the term "Pikey " is used.

cheekybarsteward · 12/08/2012 19:41

Chavs are not working class, they are non working and would never dream of it class

NCForNow · 12/08/2012 19:44

Bollocks. You know Chavs are working class. I'm working class. Chavs are too.

cheekybarsteward · 12/08/2012 19:45

Or Cheltenham Average, depends on how precious you want to be? Being a chav is a lifestlye choice not an afliction for gawds sake!

NCForNow · 12/08/2012 19:46

bureni it's just changed...people don't care about the origins. No more than they care about the people they label. Or the social reasons which contribute to their being the way they are.

Working-class people hate chavs a lot more than poshos do.

Denise34 · 12/08/2012 19:47

everlong, that's a backronym.

NCForNow · 12/08/2012 19:47

cheeky utter crap. Wearing certain clothing is one thing. Growing up in a deprived area is another.

NCForNow · 12/08/2012 19:48

Denise. What tosh. I''m working class...I don't hate anyone. Neither do any of the other working class people I know.

Denise34 · 12/08/2012 19:49

You must not have had the misfortune to live near chavs.

DeepPurple · 12/08/2012 19:49

Chavs are working class only because there isn't a name for the sub class of non-working, no intention to work, benefit claiming people. NOT to be confused with those genuinely unable to work.

cheekybarsteward · 12/08/2012 19:50

Wrong! I grew up in very deprived area with no money and still didn't dress in leisure gear and baseball caps and claim benefits!
As I said, it is a lifestyle choice

NCForNow · 12/08/2012 19:50

If young people choose to wear a "Uniform" to try to find themselves an identity then fine...that is very normal amongst ALL classes. However, when you choose to display the dress and mannerisms of a "chav" it's through sad ignorance that is should not be laughed at.

usualsuspect · 12/08/2012 19:52

Anyone who finds that board game funny is a twat.
