outside the registry office on the day of the wedding and if so what should we offer them as an incentive to be a witness? Not planning on having any guests.

I'm sure a guest from a wedding scheduled for a time slot after you would do it.
I don't think you need to offer incentive. Any decent person would do it.

Congratulations btw

SparkyMcSparrow · 11/04/2012 16:29

Veer towards the older people, all old people love a wedding :)

Wine?

squoosh · 11/04/2012 16:29

What if you don't find anyone and you lose your timeslot? I thought hustling for witnesses on the street was a thing you only saw in films.

jenfraggle · 11/04/2012 16:32

I'd be really excited if someone asked me

If wedding is on a saturday and regsiter office is in a fairly central location, I think you'd be hard pushed not to find a couple of willing witnesses......

I'd be happy to witness a wedding if asked.

Good luck and congrats xx

DawnOfTheDee · 11/04/2012 16:36

I'm sure you'd find someone - I'd love to do it and definitely never hang around outside the town hall hoping this might happen to me one day

McHappyPants2012 · 11/04/2012 16:36

I'm in Newport and I will do it

wotnocapitals · 11/04/2012 16:37

Is the registry office in a busy area? Is it the sort of place where people might have some time to spare such as near shops and cafes?

oohlordylordy · 11/04/2012 16:38

I'm in London and I'd do it.

I don't think you will have any problems finding people. I would do it, if someone asked me on the side of the street Smile

McPopcornMouseNFries · 11/04/2012 16:39

Oooo I'd do it, no incentive required! :)

PrincessOfPatna · 11/04/2012 16:39

Definitely old people - my dad is in his 70s and would love to be asked! My auntie and uncle would love it too. They'd insist on buying you a bottle of something to celebrate with as well :) Look for couples entering M&S/Lakeland/British Home Stores type places.

I would start scouting well before your ceremony timeslot though and perhaps make sure you have a fully charged phone with numbers of some friends who could be summoned in case of emergency.

OrangeCrushed · 11/04/2012 16:40

I'll do it if you are local to Birmingham?

Yeahthatsnotgonnahappen · 11/04/2012 16:41

I would be beside my self with excitement if asked. Out of interest what time and date are planning and in which registry office? Not that I would ever plan to rock up in a pretty dress at all Grin

but as I am exceedingly nosey, why not ask friends/acquaintences (?sp)?

If you are planning on doing this I would rock up early and have a plan B in mind (number of friend etc) just in case. Or go trolling in bars.

CurrySpice · 11/04/2012 16:42

Oh goodness I would do it in a shot but I might blub Blush

FondleWithCare · 11/04/2012 16:42

I'll do it if it's in London.

cuttingpicassostoenails · 11/04/2012 16:43

I'm at the arse end of Cornwall...I'll do it.

jenfraggle · 11/04/2012 16:44

If you do the arse end of Cornwall cutting, I can cover mid Cornwall :)

squoosh · 11/04/2012 16:44

I'm such a grouch, I'd probably say no thanks, in case I'd be stuck there for an hour or so. Definitely ask an old person.

DottyandSpottyWot · 11/04/2012 16:45

If its near Perth, i'd do it!

CurrySpice · 11/04/2012 16:45

I'm in Essex :)

Ephiny · 11/04/2012 16:45

I would ask a couple of friends/colleagues, just because I'd be anxious about what would happen if we couldn't find anyone.

I'm sure lots of people would be willing to help with something like this though! Maybe offer to buy them a drink afterwards?

Ephiny · 11/04/2012 16:45

Congratulations btw, and how exciting :)

snozzlemaid · 11/04/2012 16:47

Damn mid Cornwall already gone. Ooh but hang on you'll need two so i could be the second one!
