outside the registry office on the day of the wedding and if so what should we offer them as an incentive to be a witness? Not planning on having any guests.

Wow I had no idea anyone would want to waste their time going to a strangers wedding! Why?

We're mn'rs, we do these things Wink

WhereYouLeftIt · 11/04/2012 19:06

I can make it to Warwick registry office any weekday morning. Smile

HateBeingCantDoUpMyJeans · 11/04/2012 19:07

Op you'll have to try harder than that to put peopke offering their services.

Astr0naut · 11/04/2012 19:08

Hmm, lots of retired people.....Brighton or Llandudno?

iloveACK · 11/04/2012 19:09

To answer why Op, I'd do it for a stranger as long as I could spare the time, because I'd simply be happy to Smile. No other reason really (oh & could tell friends over a drink!).

I can cover the Midlands on a weekday if necessary!

McHappyPants2012 · 11/04/2012 19:09

I would do it, no reason perticular, just to make someone happy

Tiago · 11/04/2012 19:09

I can do Cambridge. I can probably also rustle up a friend for the second.

Tiago · 11/04/2012 19:10

It doesn't have to be fancy. I just like weddings.

Gigaflops · 11/04/2012 19:12

I'd do it, because I love seeing people in love... whatever the reason behind the I Do, that's what it comes down to - two people, committing to each other, and that makes me feel good... Wink

So still keen to volunteer, even if there are no dresses, flowers or food! Can I bring some bubbly for afters? Grin

Heswall · 11/04/2012 19:19

I've even got a hat !

Gigaflops · 11/04/2012 19:22

Heswall - but have you got knickers? [snort]

Heswall · 11/04/2012 19:24

I am NOT a fur coat and no knickers type thank you very much .... not like her down the road

SoupDragon · 11/04/2012 19:24

I can do Croydon (school hours, term time!) and thereabouts.

I couldn't give a stuff why you're marrying, practical or romantic reasons pffft.

Hulababy · 11/04/2012 19:27

Well, I'm in Sheffield if you're near there :)

Hulababy · 11/04/2012 19:28

Pancakeflipper - the bride from the other thread was pregnant at the time of the wedding.

nancerama · 11/04/2012 19:30

I can do Berkshire.

For what it's worth, I think you're getting married for exactly the right reasons. A practical commitment to each other and your family is far more reason than just wanting to dress up and have a party (although I like dressing up too).

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 11/04/2012 19:32

I can do week day mornings - Brighton/Hove area.
We're not all retired here y'know.

robino · 11/04/2012 19:33

I'll repay the favour! Mine was the thread mentioned above and we did it for almost exactly the same reasons as you plantowed, it was perfect for us.

And yes, pancakeflipper, I have had the baby!

Pancakeflipper · 11/04/2012 19:34

Ta Hulababy, I knew baby and knickers were relevant.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 11/04/2012 19:35

If you choose a MNer they won't tell on you but you will have guarenteed witnesses. What is not to like?

Buckinghamshire if you need me :)

plantowed · 11/04/2012 19:40

robino - have you told anyone since other than MN?

OP posts:
sayanything · 11/04/2012 19:41

I was asked to be a witness while walking down King's Road in London about 10 years ago - the couple were eloping because their parents were vehemently opposed to the marriage (he was Catholic, she was Jewish). I was glad to do it, no incentive necessary, although they did buy the other witness and me a glass of wine at a nearby pub to say thank you. They really didn't need to though. I do think of them from time to time, hoping they're still together and happy.

sayanything · 11/04/2012 19:42

Meant to add, I'd gladly do it again for you - you're not getting married in Brussels by any chance, are you?

robino · 11/04/2012 19:43

We hadn't. We got married in June 2010 and told no-one until February this year. We ended up having to confess because we're moving to the Middle East and have to be married to live there. We were outed by DH's job really!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 11/04/2012 19:46

I was a witness for a MNetter's wedding last October, twas absolutely lovely
