To want the nanny to cook real fish not fish fingers

PumpUpTheJam · 22/03/2012 17:50

Nanny to 18 mo DD says she does not like the smell of fish and will only make fish fingers. I think that on a full salary and with just one kid to look after she can occasionally force herself to do this! Any strong opinions?

OP posts:
belindarose · 22/03/2012 17:52

Yes, my string opinion is that you shouldn't refer to her as 'the nanny'.

Can you daughter have fish when it's your turn to cook?

MickyDodger · 22/03/2012 17:52

fish fingers are real fish, unless you are buying crap ones.

But you're in charge, tell her what to make, don't ask her.

FauxFox · 22/03/2012 17:52

What are fish fingers made of then? Hmm

DeepThought · 22/03/2012 17:52

oooh I had a flashback to nannypastagate then

oiwheresthecoffee · 22/03/2012 17:53

Are fish fingers the new devil food ?

knowitallstrikesagain · 22/03/2012 17:53

I am pretty sure my DC would like me to cook more things than I actually do. But they do love fish fingers.
Does she feed DD every evening meal, including w/e? If so, YANBU as fish is part of a balanced diet.
If you could cook fish at w/e, YABU.
Did you ask her before you employed her what she could/was willing to cook?

Goolash · 22/03/2012 17:53

Yabu Grin

I cannot stand the smell of fish, it makes me want to hurl. I let my dp cook fish fingers when I'm out of the house.

AwkwardMary · 22/03/2012 17:53

YANBU....she'll have tgo get a grip. What if I were an office assistant who hated the sound of staplers? Or a nurse who couldn't bear the smell of disenfectant?

Fish is a necassary and healthy part of a diet...maybe once a week? Once a fortnight wouldn't be hard for her surely?

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/03/2012 17:54

Buy really good fish fingers for the help Grin and cook 'proper' fish when you cook.

SparkyMcSparrow · 22/03/2012 17:54

Yabu!

I hate the smell of fish and the look. I can only just stomach fish fingers!

You cook the fish!

ImproperlyAcquainted · 22/03/2012 17:54

fish finger are made out of fish

How many meals a week does she prepare and how many meals a week do you think should be fish?

AwkwardMary · 22/03/2012 17:54

belinda makes a good point....you must cook for your child sometimes?

piratecat · 22/03/2012 17:55

well, what fish do you mean.

is she having to grill some sort of fresh fish? or bung a bit of cod in the oven in foil?

gettingeasier · 22/03/2012 17:55

Actually I dont like the reference to her "full salary" like its a favour

Pandemoniaa · 22/03/2012 17:55

Lawks! It really is impossible to get the staff nowadays isn't it?

Sack her immediately.

piratecat · 22/03/2012 17:56

or buy salmon fish fingers!! (wishing i hadn't introduced them to dd @£2.50 for a bloody packet)

GossipMonger · 22/03/2012 17:56

There is nothing wrong with fishfingers! Get the 100% cod fillet ones and it is classed as healthy.

Or a tuna pasta bake might not make her hurl!

What if you were asked to do something that you hated? Would you not try and get out of it?

I could not cook liver for anyone!

EngeldinckHumperbert · 22/03/2012 17:57

Hmm Cook the fish yourself if you feel so strongly about. Fish pie can be made in advance and reheated.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 22/03/2012 17:57

Grin @ nannypastagate

JarethTheGoblinKing · 22/03/2012 17:58

OP - what about fish cakes?

CupOfBrownJoy · 22/03/2012 18:01

Cook the fish yourself.

Problem solved!

Hebiegebies · 22/03/2012 18:03

Agree, sack the wench immediately and cook yourself

Or, if she only has this one failing, count yourself lucky and find bigger fish to fry more important issues to concern yourself with

diabolo · 22/03/2012 18:04

If you feel so strongly, sack her and do it yourself!

CrystalMaize · 22/03/2012 18:04

YANBU to expect YOUR CHILD'S NANNY to cook fish. But if you speak to her in the same way you speak ABOUT her then you will be perceived as being U.
