To want the nanny to cook real fish not fish fingers

PumpUpTheJam · 22/03/2012 17:50

Nanny to 18 mo DD says she does not like the smell of fish and will only make fish fingers. I think that on a full salary and with just one kid to look after she can occasionally force herself to do this! Any strong opinions?

Grin @ pollocks bollocks

Yes, where is the op?

Chubfuddler · 22/03/2012 20:26

Scared off.

TiggyD · 22/03/2012 20:28

Why not hire a chef and ask him to look after your child as well?

CokeZeroAddict · 22/03/2012 20:29

Children need fish. Both oily and white. As a nanny it is a basic part of her job to provide a healthy and mixed diet, so she needs to make proper fish meals from scratch. I am a doctor and have to do rectal examinations as a part of my job. Should i just refuse to carry them out because actually, i just don't fancy it? No, because I'm a professional and it's part of my job. Same applies to your nanny.

Post again in the child care topic for some more sensible advice.

Hopandaskip · 22/03/2012 20:32

May I make a suggestion?

Next time you want to hire a nanny, don't bother asking if she likes kids, her previous experience or what her approach to discipline is or any other nonsense questions.

Ask her "what do you think about fish fingers"

If she answers anything other than "well they are rubbish aren't they, I'd never serve that muck to anyone. I only cook things like fresh wild salmon grilled with a shitake glaze." then she obviously isn't the one for you.

weedoll · 22/03/2012 20:33

That's it! I'm slashing our nannies wages (no more full wage for her!) so we can afford waitrose salmon fish fingers or better yet get mermaids tits on toast they're practically fragrance free!!!
I jest op, come back!!

RitaMorgan · 22/03/2012 20:45

Children don't need fish.

KalSkirata · 22/03/2012 20:54

fish isnt needed

Haziedoll · 22/03/2012 21:00

YANBU. I can't stand the smell even though I don't mind the taste. I still cook it because I'm an adult and have to do things I don't like.

I wouldn't expect her to do it if is she was feeling a bit dodgy and I wouldn't expect her to cook fish with eyes and mouths still in their heads.

UnlikelyAmazonian · 22/03/2012 21:00

I'm Brian and so is my wife

Flatbread · 22/03/2012 21:00

She should cook fresh fish. We all do things at work we don't want to, but have to as it is part of the job.

And agree that fresh fish is way better than fish fingers, as it is not processed.

MarianneM · 22/03/2012 21:01

Fish is much better than meat.

The nanny is a ninny.

voddiekeepsmesane · 22/03/2012 21:02

Oh no CokeZeroAddict I have totally failed my ds then because He will not have any fish at all and at nearly 8yo I think he never will. He gags even at the thought of putting fish in his mouth. And before anyone asks he even gagged at 7 months old when I first tried him with fish.

gingerfrizz · 22/03/2012 21:04

Where's the OP gone - is she cooking?

Voidka · 22/03/2012 21:04

Does she not hand make her pasta either?

Ihaveaveryleakybrain · 22/03/2012 21:04

Nannypastagate? I'm going to have to do a search now....

Voidka · 22/03/2012 21:06

Pastagate

DeepThought · 22/03/2012 21:07

well done Voidka

Ihaveaveryleakybrain · 22/03/2012 21:07

Ta!

Pumpster · 22/03/2012 21:08

She should take the children to catch it too, she's on a full salary ffs.

FishfingersAreOK · 22/03/2012 21:10

OK. I admit is. I am a bad, bad mother. Occasionally I do not cook from scratch for my DC. Occasionally I ue fishfingers as a quick, bung it in the oven tea. For 4 years I felt guilty each time I did it. Then I came to realise that actually fishfingers are OK. I dumped the guilt.

This has all changed this evening.

Sobs into Wine

Joking aside, please can we stop fishfinger bashing. They are OK you know. Aren't they?

LittleAlbert · 22/03/2012 21:12

Ahem

So can we clarify for those of us who are culinarily challenged - are fish fingers bad? Are they as bad as fresh pasta?

Because if that's the case then I only have baked brands and mini kievs left as my 'repertoire'

Chubfuddler · 22/03/2012 21:17

Neither fish fingers not pasta are bad. Not in the normal world where 4 year olds don't eat lentils.

LurcioLovesFrankie · 22/03/2012 21:21

I'm thinking of sacking my nanny because the silly mare missed the developmental window for introducing kalamata olives into DS's diet. Oh no, hang on, just having a weird fantasy moment, I can't afford a nanny, I'm the one coming home from a full day at work and "cooking" the beans and fish fingers.
