to show I am asexual by wearing a black ring?

Lots of asexuals wear a black ring on their right middle finger. I'm thinking of getting one. What do you thinK? Have you ever seen anyone wearing one? How would you respond to a policeman, or bus driver or teacher advertising that they are asexual? I'm thinking it might be a helpful message to avoid misunderstandings, or is it something you don't really want to know about a stranger? Would it influence your perception of other aspects of them?

Honestly I dont care what peoples sexual orientation is and the same would go under asexual for me.

It is akin to wearing a sticker on your shoulder blade saying "i am gay"

most people wouldn't notice it, and even if they did they probably would't have any idea as to what it meant.

I'm not sure I see why you'd bother. I mean, I can see the point of the handkerchief code but asexuals are by definition not trying to pull so why bother signalling your absence of sexuality? No other bugger is going to know what you're on about, and it's hardly as though you're going to spot a black ring, tip another asexual the wink and then nip off into the bushes on Hampstead Heath for a furtive, breathless game of Scrabble.

It wouldn't influence my opinion of you one way or another tbh. Some people may not know it's significance, others may feel it's irrelevant. It's up to you, if it's important to you then wear one. Do you feel you need to wear one to 'advertise' (wrong word I know but I can't think of another) your asexuality?

Having read this thread, I'll probably be on the lookout for it for a few days before forgetting the significance again.

I think it's odd to want to advertise your asexuality. If you receive unwanted advances, then you can just rebuff them the same way as anyone else would, surely.

And I know people advertise their marital status with rings but that's not qutie the same as their sexuality or asexuality.

Plants are asexual. That means they don't need a mate to reproduce. So how the hell can a person be asexual?

I've seen someone who wears one, I knew the symbol as I used to post on aven.

Didn't make me think anything TBH, other than "I wonder if he is asexual or he just likes wearing that ring there?" - I'm in a relationship so it wouldn't make a difference to me.

My cousin wears one, more so they can recognise each other, I think. Like the signet ring on the pinkie finger that gay women sometimes wear.Then there is the handkerchief code.
