GavisconJunkie · 12/02/2012 22:09

jealous much?

aldiwhore · 12/02/2012 22:10

They're not as stupid as they look, if they were and were still as successful as they are, well every bloody WAG would be like them, and they're not.

She's not daft, she may well be luck, but she's worked that luck pretty well.

DamnBamboo · 12/02/2012 22:11

Vicar many people in all walks of life get a hand-up, or a foot in the door because of who they know.

But you still have to be good enough at what you do to succeed at it.

Doesn't matter what your name is or who you know, if your work is crap, people won't be interested in it!

southeastastra · 12/02/2012 22:12

lol at jealous much Grin

kerala · 12/02/2012 22:14

You just can't think like that OP you will end up bitter and twisted. Dear friends of ours have family money, never have to work so can live in a great house and enjoy time with their many children backed up by nannies and cleaners. Thats the hand life has dealt them good luck to them. We do drive away saying grrr they are so lucky but getting jealous and snidey about others good fortune turns you into a small whiney person am sure you are not but its not a good mindset.

ThatVikRinA22 · 12/02/2012 22:15

see i am really not jealous of them. truly. i like my life and my job.

and i know that my DH hasnt screwed anyone else.
how are these two held up as some kind of wonderful role models? and anyone who questions their 'proper job' status gets told they are jealous? not jealous at all, truly. i do love my life, my kids, my DH and my job.

i just cant see that someone who is famous by name only can suddenly turn their hand to fashion designing with no other qualification that that they wear nice clothes and are very thin and pretty....

i wonder how DB came back from the rebecca loos thing? if thats what money does for you then keep it....i do know i wouldnt wank a pig off on tv for all the tea in china....

OP posts:
DamnBamboo · 12/02/2012 22:22

They aren't wonderful role models.
Who said they were?

You are completely going off course now.

Your OP was about her job, and now you are banging on about their family life and questioning how she has been able to turn her hand to designing, when clearly she can design, and despite what happened in the past, they seem happy enough. Many people get over infidelities, I'll make no personal judgement on it but if it works for them...

What is your point again?

lilolilmanchester · 12/02/2012 22:23

was going to respond to that but you really, really don't get it do you? So no point

southeastastra · 12/02/2012 22:24

oh no i think bitter and twisted is underrated

a bit from the link : Thus she paved the way for a new kind of designer to emerge: one without the usual art school background, but with an education of an entirely different kind.

:S

ShellyBoobs · 12/02/2012 22:25

DB is definitely talented.

VB is a talentless but lucky woman. She'd be nothing without DB's brand value.

ThatVikRinA22 · 12/02/2012 22:26

my point is that i dont see victoria beckhams job as a proper one. or his. i work with an ex professional footballer. i think VB is talentless and earns money off the back of her husband and her "brand". thats my point, and my opinion. just my opinion. feel free to have your own....

OP posts:
DamnBamboo · 12/02/2012 22:30

You seem a little confused.
What has working with an ex-pro footballer got to do with any of this.
What has Rebecca Loos got to do with any of this? Or wanking a pig?

I'm trying to understand you OP, but you're making it difficult.

If she's so talentless, why are A-list celebrities queuing up to wear her dresses for the Oscar? Or just generally wear them on a day to day basis? Some people may consider that a mark of success, and these film-stars can have any designer in the world dress them, yet they choose her! Talentless, really?

I don't get what you're saying.

OddBoots · 12/02/2012 22:30

So no, you're not unreasonable to have smirked as you have a differed opinion on what counts as a proper job than he does and that amuses you.

That doesn't make him wrong as the word 'proper' is clearly a subjective one.

DamnBamboo · 12/02/2012 22:31

Thing is, I'm actually indifferent to them as a rule, I have no strong feelings either way, so I find your stance on them, just bizarre.

Her talent seems to earning and managing money, she's good at that Smile

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 12/02/2012 22:32

Well when they were first together, she was the famous one, so I don't think she has traded off his brand, they have traded off each other perhaps.

I don't think they are good role models especially, although they do work hard. He doesn't need to still play football, she doesn't need to design clothes. They could just sit back and enjoy the money if they chose to.

And much as I think footballers get paid too much, you can't call him talentless, or her for that matter. If nothing else, they both have a talent for marketing themselves and making money.

southeastastra · 12/02/2012 22:33

i find it more bizarre that people are developing this odd hero worship of celebrity these days and why are they suddenly exempt from any sort of criticism?

DamnBamboo · 12/02/2012 22:37

No, not exempt at all.
It's also not hero-worship to disagree with somebody who is calling two people talentless without proper jobs, when clearly they both work and have some talent.

I'm a stickler for facts me.

grubbalo · 12/02/2012 22:38

With footballers, sorry but they get paid lots because very, very few people have the skills or talent to do their job. A lot of people have the skills or talent to become a nurse or a teacher - that might not be "right", but it's the way it is (and I am married to a teacher, I know how hard he works. Unfortunately lots of other people also possess the same skill set!)

With VB - agree her brand wouldn't be nearly as strong as DB and she has been lucky. She does seem to have a lot of drive though. Actually the thing that annoys me about her is the fact she often says about how hard she works, and attributes her success to that - agree the hard work is necessary, but she doesn't seem to "get" that copious amounts of good luck are also required too! Think she thinks we could all have done it if we'd worked as hard as her, which is simply not true.

ThatVikRinA22 · 12/02/2012 22:39

not from me south Grin but i am being told i am being unreasonable!

if i stick to my original point i think VB job is not a proper one....but in that i am apparently unreasonable.

the reason i veered off topic was because of the accusations of my being jealous....jealous of what? have a DH who shags the nanny? nooooo thanks. so not jealous.

but i do not see VB as having a "proper job". only im not allowed to say that because they are rich and that must mean im jealous or something....nothing to do with the fact VB is fairly talentless....but wears clothes well.

OP posts:
chickensaregreen · 12/02/2012 22:41

They aren't exempt from criticism but credit where credit is due. I am a teacher and I bet they work MASSES more hours than me. I wouldn't want either of their jobs. They are clearly both talented people, even if their talent is merely seen as marketing themselves. They give lots to charity and every interview I have ever seen they are normal, down to earth people. It's fine to judge them but sounding so incredibly jealous of all they have achieved is going to get people defending them. I have no interest in celebrity but the sneering made me want to defend them!

WorraLiberty · 12/02/2012 22:41

If being a talented footballer only involves 'kicking a ball'

Everyone could do it could they not?

Or do you think there might be just a teensy bit more to it? Wink

lilolilmanchester · 12/02/2012 22:43

vicar, I think perhaps you meant what Grubbalo wrote... now that I could agree with. I also agree with most of what I think you intended to say, ... but you cannot possibly expect to describe either of the Beckhams as talentless, especially not DB, and expect to have an intelligent discussion?

notveryinventive · 12/02/2012 22:46

Have I missed the bit in general (not in this thread) where it was confirmed that DB shagged Rebecca? I thought she just said he did which he denied. So has he admitted it because if not then is that not slander or whatever?

Also people have said VB does have a proper job whether thats fashion designing or just being a celebrity.

south no-one is exempt from criticism if they have done something that you can criticise them about. I fail to see what exactly either of the Beckhams have definately done (apart from maybe Beckhams red card at that international football game in the 90s). Having said that Im not big massive fans of theirs, they are neither here nor there for me. I certainly dont have anything negative to say about them though.
