Colleen Rooney designs for Very, has her own perfume and writes children's books as well.

I'm sure both her, and VB, would be completely successful in all these careers, even if the hadn't married footballers.

Hmm
noddyholder · 13/02/2012 13:15

I like that shape it is simple and the clouds/cats are summery and a bit fun.

coraltoes · 13/02/2012 13:17

FAshion designer is a proper job. As is sportsman. Just cos they are not run of the mill jobs doesn't make them any less valid than yours.

MrsHeffley · 13/02/2012 13:21

Re what has her life got to do with it I find it a tad Hmm that just as VB releases the Harper bag and whatever else she's got coming out we get the Hello b&w underwear post baby shots, the interviews and organised pap shots ad nauseum.

If her 'life' is neither here nor there then surely she shouldn't keep hauling it out when it suits. If she was married to Joe Bloggs from Peckham she wouldn't have it to help her or a black book of celeb mates to wear her designs.

Sorry sovery stuff the clouds I don't get the cat shite,on my 7 year old dd maybe but a grown womenHmm

coraltoes · 13/02/2012 13:22

I own a Victoria beckham dress, her first label, very structured, great tailoring, not slutty. I own a lot of designer dresses and have to say the workmanship on hers and the shape is up there with the best, but then that's why they cost so much. Incidentally when I tried it on I didn't know it was by her. Was quite surprised when the sales girl told me!

noddyholder · 13/02/2012 13:22

All fashion is a matter of taste It doesn't make it right or wrong. I think KP looks like a tramp and I would never wear it but judging by a lot of girls in the street many aspire to be like her. VB a lot more elegant imo but it is only a matter of choice.

cocolepew · 13/02/2012 13:26

She might be able to draw a picture of the shape and pick out fabric, but VB wouldn't know how to 'construct' a dress. You would need to know about dress making/tailoring for that.

coraltoes · 13/02/2012 13:26

Her current line is her diffusion range, it is meant to be a bit of fun...jeez people. Fashion is subjective, take it easy!

noddyholder · 13/02/2012 13:28

I agree there are probably a host of design students with the technical expertise to cut patterns etc etc she probably has a vision of the finished article but the skills are not something you just learn yourself! Her ideas are good though and I think they represent her style well. Perhaps as she gets older and more confident she will feel able to acknowledge the 'team' behind her I hope so!

thebody · 13/02/2012 13:30

Stella mc carney had a little hand up in life! Vic Beckham did not.

noddyholder · 13/02/2012 13:30

I think its a bit of both. There is a certain amount of talent in getting yourself there. It is confidence too. You can be super talented but not believe in yourself and have no drive iygwim.I think some people just want to succeed no matter what they have to do I think she is one of those.

yellowraincoat · 13/02/2012 13:48

I'm never quite sure why people expect celebrities to be honest. Are we only happy when we know every detail of their personality and lives? It's so voyeurisitc.

How many people in day to day life are totally open about who they are? I know I'm not and as someone who works in adult education, my life would be quite difficult if I was.

"Hi students, how was your weekend, mine was ok apart from the screaming row with my boyfriend, the fact that my parents make me want to shoot someone, the rotting floorboards under my bed and my continuing battle with depression."

I would say most people wear a mask to some extent or another.

thebody · 13/02/2012 13:52

Tbh I always admire the one with less talent who makes it to the top. It usuallyeans they had to work harder and listened to advice.

noddyholder · 13/02/2012 13:59

I agree yellow! reality tv has a lot to answer for. We do not need all of the info life would be very dull without a bit of fantasy.I don't think any working mums would be insulted at VB being named as one If it is work to her its work. We all know the more £ you have the easier you can access help

boglach · 13/02/2012 14:02

Vicarinatutu- you won't win this argument

beauty and wealth are the only true measure of success and if you don't have them you must be jealous

basic · 13/02/2012 14:06

But it's just like certain celebs who write their own books. They use their name to get on and why not if people out there like it and want to put more money in their pockets. Wouldn't the greater majority of people out there do the same.

TotemPole · 13/02/2012 14:14

VB probably does get involved with all aspects. She'll have designers that work with her on the designs, she'll have buyers sourcing the materials. Then she'll be involved with the final decisions.

daenerysstormborn · 13/02/2012 14:30

yes, i agree vb probably does get involved, but she doesn't do it all as some on this thread seem to believe.

'coleen rooney designs for very'

i give up

Lueji · 13/02/2012 14:33

yes, i agree vb probably does get involved, but she doesn't do it all as some on this thread seem to believe.

Do you think the heads of clothes labels do it all? Even the leading designers?

Lueji · 13/02/2012 14:36

And having degrees doesn't mean people are better at doing something.

I have gone all the way up the education ladder, BTW.

daenerysstormborn · 13/02/2012 14:41

for companies with a large turnover, they will have assistants, pattern drafters, technicians, machinists, buyers who source the materials, accountants, marketers, publicity etc. victoria beckham the brand is not the same as victoria beckham the person.
