they are heroically accomplishing while being SAHMs (cooking, washing, ironing, etc) are being at best naive and at worst disingenuous. Who do they think does all that stuff in the non-SAHMs' households, house elves?

Is it SAHM v WOHM week? So soon? I thought it must be BF v FF week - did I miss one.

God.

Morloth · 08/02/2012 11:55

I was just thinking the cycle seems to be getting shorter ShirleyO.

muffinflop · 08/02/2012 11:57

But it IS an achievement to do all those things whilst being a SAHM...most of us just sit around on MN all day drinking coffee don't you know

ComposHat · 08/02/2012 11:58

I shall head off to Greggs, buy all the buns on sale and leave them on the thread

ShirleyO · 08/02/2012 12:00

I think it's going end up being hourly Morloth.

8am - SAHM v WOHM
9am - P&C Parking
10am - Benefits
11am - BF v FF
12pm - Benefits (this is on a two hourly rotation due to popularity)
1pm - SAHM v WOHM
2pm - BF v FF
3pm - Benefits
4pm - Disabled toilets
5pm - Parking

etc

PickingAfight · 08/02/2012 12:00

Well, I am an SAHM myself. I jsut don't indulge in self-delusions.

JanecobMarely · 08/02/2012 12:01

i'm a SAHM who FF

MarleysBra · 08/02/2012 12:02

You seem to be living up to your user name OP.

DontDoSupportiveGF · 08/02/2012 12:03

I could never understand women who elevate housework to a status equal to work.

Q. My DP came home at 8pm, having left the house at 7am, and he wants dinner. AIBU?
A. Dump the bastard. You've been ironing and washing all day. Tell him to make his own fecking dinner. :o :o

Both of us work. We have two children. The housework is done when we get home and at weekends inbetween Quality Time with the DCs. If a SAHM is making housework into a ful time job then she is doing something seriously wrong.

PickingAfight · 08/02/2012 12:03

That's the idea MareysBra :)

justhavintheone · 08/02/2012 12:04

so confusing to us part timers! what side am i on????

OTheHugeManatee · 08/02/2012 12:04

It's full moon, so I think we can expect at least a bunfight hat-trick. My guess is SAHM/WOHM, benefits and maybe a 'Lucky Dip' bunfight. You know, something really weird like mushrooms, plug sockets or the best way to take clematis cuttings.

JanecobMarely · 08/02/2012 12:04

oh god no, SAHP (the P is important) don't do housework as a job, we do as we're expected too Grin

blackoutthesun · 08/02/2012 12:05

nah i'm too busy on here drinking coffee and eating crisps

laurenamium · 08/02/2012 12:05

Is this aimed at a thread - or group of thread in particular?

DontDoSupportiveGF · 08/02/2012 12:06

"most of us just sit around on MN all day drinking coffee don't you know"

Errmm. Looking at the timestamps on some of the posts, that seems to be what is happening

Labootin · 08/02/2012 12:08

I have a daily plus weekly plus monthly checklist for my live in maid.

And I am a sahm with school age children.

HTH op

Kangarobber · 08/02/2012 12:08

When I go out all day the house remains in the same state as when I left in the morning. When I and one or more children are at home all day it gets dirtier, untidier, and there is extra food to be prepared and cleared and washing up to be done.

Personally I found housework far easier when I worked because although I did have to fit it in during the smaller amount of time I was at home there was less of it. I also did not have to provide a significant number of meals/snacks per day, as nursery or school had that covered.

I think YABU as being at home can be tedious and it is good to cheer yourself up by sharing positives with other people. Trying to pick a fight about other people's positivity is tedious and unecessary.

Jins · 08/02/2012 12:09

WOHM with teenagers.

I'm not even dressed yet!

OhdearNigel · 08/02/2012 12:09

OP, I have a House Elf. Her name is Muggins.

BelleEnd · 08/02/2012 12:09

I am a SAHM that also does work from home when children are asleep. Am I:
a) A shite mother for working;
b) A shite mother for not working away from home;
c) A shite mother and wife for never ironing anything;
d) A shite feminist for making dinner every night?

ProcrastinateWildly · 08/02/2012 12:10

Why oh why can't we all live together in peace and harmony?

StealthPolarBear · 08/02/2012 12:11

Is this national bash a sahm week? What is going on?

StealthPolarBear · 08/02/2012 12:12

Belle you are all of the aboveand more

hanaka88 · 08/02/2012 12:12

I'm a SAHM. I sleep some days seeing as I'm up between 2pm and 10am caring for my little boy and transporting him. If I do all my ironing it is an achievement. I stay up 24 hours a day some days to get it all done Grin
