they are heroically accomplishing while being SAHMs (cooking, washing, ironing, etc) are being at best naive and at worst disingenuous. Who do they think does all that stuff in the non-SAHMs' households, house elves?

OP posts:
cheekyseamonkey · 08/02/2012 12:27

Well I think, oh fuck it, whygive OP the satisfaction?

piprabbit · 08/02/2012 12:31

Working was such a doss compared to being a SAHM.
The commute was a bit of a PITA, but once I was actually in the office the stress was minimal, the people were interesting, I had a good wage and people respected my opinions.

On the plus side, I no longer commute.

Kangarobber · 08/02/2012 12:33

Have a Biscuit OP (home baked, of course Wink)

Oggy · 08/02/2012 12:33

I have been both. When I was working we could afford a cleaner and to get my husband's work shirts washed and ironed at the dry cleaners. Those were the days.

Now I'm not working I have to do it all myself and much less gets done.

Oggy · 08/02/2012 12:35

p.s. my children are both at school and I drive a 4x4

(they are not gifted though so perhaps that earns me a reprieve??)

tethersend · 08/02/2012 12:36

Who's going to tell all the cleaners and nannies to get a real job?

Abra1d · 08/02/2012 12:37

'8am - SAHM v WOHM
9am - P&C Parking
10am - Benefits
11am - BF v FF
12pm - Benefits (this is on a two hourly rotation due to popularity)
1pm - SAHM v WOHM
2pm - BF v FF
3pm - Benefits
4pm - Disabled toilets
5pm - Parking'

Where is Children not invited to weddings???

lesley33 · 08/02/2012 12:39

And children eating in restaurants??? Surely that deserves a mention somewhere?

wildfig · 08/02/2012 12:42

'Children not invited to weddings' is being postponed due to 'Our dog is ringbearer at our wedding - SIL/MIL refusing to attend' at 6pm.

redskyatnight · 08/02/2012 12:42

I get what you mean OP ... I have quite a few friends (SAHM to school age children) who post on their FB status something like "sorted out the DC, took them to school, prepped tea, just got 2nd load of washing on and I'm now sat here with a coffee" and it's something like 11.30. And the responses are all along the lines of "wow you've had a busy day" whilst I'm sat here thinking ... well I've done all that plus 2 hours of paid work today, it's actually not really a huge amount or anything very out of the ordinary ... it does read like the SAHM trying to justify her existence.

ShirleyO · 08/02/2012 12:43

It's February Abra1d. The Bridezilla/Children crashing weddings/Breastfeeding at font posts don't start until MARCH.

yes, houseelves - I'm a wohm, and nothing gets done in our house.
seriously, nothing.

This is the list of things that get accomplished in our house (frequency included)
washing pots - every two or three days (by DH)
washing clothes - every other day at the moment cos of lots of pooey nappies and clothes (we share)
hanging out washing - once it's done (shared)
hoovering - once a week (shared)
dressing ourselves and baby - every day (shared)
making dinner - every day (DH)
making breakfast - every day (shared, but done separately)
feeding DD - every f hour! (me)

nothing else gets done.
We might wash the basin/bath/toilet when it's been used.

nickelhasababy · 08/02/2012 12:46

mamalovebird - think yourself lucky, when I've got a toddler, I've got to juggle her between serving customers.
so glad she's not mobile yet.

I can just imagine the chaos "yes, madam, I can order that GET off the bookshelves Eleanor! for you..."

theonewiththenoisychild · 08/02/2012 12:46

Thread purely created to start a bun fight. So now who's desperate for something to talk about???Hmm

Tee2072 · 08/02/2012 12:47

I, too, am stuck in the middle as I freelance part time and my son goes to daycare 3 days a week.

Sometimes I WOH, sometimes I WIH. Sometimes I am being a SAHM.

::Tee's head explodes from not knowing where she fits in. Then she brings it back together because she remembers that she doesn't give a fuck what a bunch of people on the internet think::

ShirleyO · 08/02/2012 12:47

How could I have forgotten the PETS ARE EVIL v ALL PETS SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO DO EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME.

laurenamium · 08/02/2012 12:47

So what category do I fall into? I'm a child minder, so I stay at home with DD and look after other peoples children's so that they can work (or not- up to them) and I find it easier to post lists and follow a routine to make sure other people's children are cared for in a clean house! Hmm

parisianwife · 08/02/2012 12:48

so confusing to us part timers! what side am i on????

No side - you're meant to stand there in the corner. You belong to neither group - get thee behind me, foul wench!

GandTiceandaSprout · 08/02/2012 12:48

Am sahm. Have done fuck all today.
