to think that those Mnetters who think bootcuts are Mum jeans and we should only wear skinnies are either a size 10 or smaller, and/or 5ft 6 or taller?

Surely people should wear what suit their figure? Skinnies only seem to look flattering on tall and/or slim people if you ask me! Aren't most women pear shapes with bigger hips and thighs and therefore would suit bootcuts much more?

M&S do a great pair of slim boot-cuts which are actually really comfortable. And as M&S do three leg lengths you can usually get something to fit perfectly (though I don't think they'd do for you Avenged as I fit the short and I'm 5'5")

cantspel · 16/01/2012 20:39

I am a size 12 short arse and wear skinney jeans with (sin of all mn sins) uggs. I have no hips tho and a flat bum and i dont care if people think i am too middle aged to wear them because i like them. Plus they only cost £8 in primark so whats not to love.

2rebecca · 16/01/2012 20:41

I think jeans are only flattering on slim people and look better when skinny legs and uncomfortably tight. I don't wear them as I like to be comfortable and jeans loose enough to be comfortable do look frumpy to me.

giveitago · 16/01/2012 20:41

Oh spider - if you can do fringe just do it. Mate - they are GREAT. I have massive frizzy hair so a non goer for me but if I could have one - I would.

I think that next sometimes have petite jeans that are in a 27inchd but it depends on the style.

Denim and flat arses don't look great though.

lisianthus · 16/01/2012 20:46

I hate skinnies, they are massively unflattering on me. I would also look like a carrot. An uncomfortable one. Bootcuts/flares look much better. I don't give a damn about fashion if it wants me to wear something that doesn't suit me.

QueenCess · 16/01/2012 20:54

Nothing more 'mumsy' than skinny leg jeans and a tunic/ sloppy breton/ boyfriend cardigan.Esp when teamed with fly/ash/Dr Marten wedge/converse boots. Utterly ubiquitous mum wear round these parts whether it suits or not.

Boot cut can look great as can wide leg jeans. I think clothes that skim, hinting at what lies beneath, are far more flattering.

usualsuspect · 16/01/2012 20:57

I'm 52 and wear skinnies or straight legs, I don't care if you think I look awful tbh

ceebeegeebies · 16/01/2012 21:05

I am guilty of most of the jeans 'mistakes' on here tbh Hmm

Am 5ft 9, size 14-16 - I wear skinnies/jeggings/leggings - but always with a long jumper/top that goes to the middle of my thighs at least (not always easy to find as I am tall).

I also have bootcuts - although I am not that keen on them. have just bought a pair of straight-cut jeans from Asda Grin today and they do look good - they look good with ballet pumps and high heels and I also expect they will look good with flip-flop/sandals in the summer. I am wondering why I haven't discovered straight-cut ones before!

However the best pair of jeans I have ever had were a pair of 'relaxed boot-cut' ones from Next (last year I think) - they were kind of like slouchy boyfriend jeans but with a little bit more shape. Unfortunately they were of the distressed variety and eventually developed a hole in the knee which just got bigger and bigger until they looked ridiculous. I cannot find any jeans of the same cut anywhere Sad

piratecat · 16/01/2012 21:06

hello

sorry but this does not look good and this is what i would look like in straights!!

piratecat · 16/01/2012 21:07

ceebee, i had some of the relaxed bootcut ones they were great.

ceebeegeebies · 16/01/2012 21:10

Pirate they were great and, as such, I don't understand why they don't still stock them Hmm

BellaVita · 16/01/2012 21:10

I am 46 and have vowed never to look like my mother Grin.

Yes I am 5ft, yes I am size 10. I wear straight legged jeans that sit on my waist. They are very flattering and by far the best jeans I have ever bought.

Garliccheesechips · 16/01/2012 21:12

You can wear what you want.
I'll stick to my skinnies and heels though. Always room for a bit of glamour.

laptopdancer · 16/01/2012 21:14

To those who wear skinnies... how do you get them to not bunch up at the knees ?

Bunbaker · 16/01/2012 21:15

I find skinnies uncomfortable. I am not a fashion victima and wear what suits me not what fashion dicatates. So I wear bootcuts or straights.

thetasigmamum · 16/01/2012 21:17

I'm 5'2" (if I'm lucky) and a size 6/8. I'd look ridiculous in boot cut trousers or flares. I live in skinny trousers and leggings and I don't look like mutton dressed as lamb I just lok like someone wearing sensible clothes for their build.

Haziedoll · 16/01/2012 21:18

I'm not skinny enough for skinny yet. I'm not skinny enough for flared jeans.

I was wearing bootcut but because they're an absolute no on MN I've switched to slim fit. I can't tell the difference, they look the same.

PippiL · 16/01/2012 21:19

Skinnies, I have some Levi ones I got in the sale about 4 years ago! I put on weight and they didn't fit me for ages so only getting the wear now. They are good quality so don't bag At the knee.

Tried new look cheapies that looked bloody AWFUL.

Gap curvy jeans are a great fit for those with hips and an arse. But not much choice in style.

thetasigmamum · 16/01/2012 21:20

Fabby - skinnies might make your feet look big if you in fact have big feet. I can assure you, if your feet are size 3.5 skinnies do not make them look big.

snapsnap · 16/01/2012 21:20

Its not really about bootcut jeans though. Its about women who dont really make an effort to stay in style. I think bootcuts can look great - with heels but terrible on those who are short of leg and wear flats

tasigama I'm 5.2 and used to be a size 6/8. I wore flared and they looked good, skinnies weren't around then. I think you can wear any style of jeans if you are thin.

Those were the days..

laptopdancer · 16/01/2012 21:22

I think I may just buy myself a pair of cords and swish swish swish into the distance.....

myncichips · 16/01/2012 21:23

Does anyone know where I can get wide leg flares? My last pair from 7 years ago (!) are on their last legs.

I cant do skinnies, I look like a pig in pants in them always have regardless of my age and weight.

southeastastra · 16/01/2012 21:30

i like in the gap 1969 real straight jeans, they sometimes have flares on there too
